***eBay Resolution Centre – change to case lodgement period***

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200905011122282.html

01 May 2009 | 11:26AM EST

From the end of May, buyers will have 45 days to lodge a case via the eBay.com.au Resolution Centre for an item not received or significantly not as described, rather than the current 60 day period.

Buyers will still be encouraged to try and resolve any issue with their seller prior to lodging a case and will also still be required to wait at least 10 days before opening a case.

The ‘find contact information’ function remains available for 90 days following a transaction and allows trading partners to obtain certain contact information about one another to help them communicate and resolve any issues. This tool is available via advanced search.

If a buyer has paid with PayPal they must open a PayPal case within 45 days of paying for the item to be eligible for PayPal Buyer Protection.

***Get your music with the launch of the eBay.com.au music portal***

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200905041457382.html

04 May 2009 | 02:57PM EST

eBay.com.au and Universal Music Australia have teamed up to bring you the new music portal on eBay.com.au. eBay’s music category portal is an exciting new feature bringing you access to downloadable music, along with access to eBay’s traditional music category items.

You’ll have access to a huge range of music for download at great prices from Universal’s music platform getmusic.com.au – just $1.59 a track and $15.99 for an album and best of all each download is compatible with all MP3 players. Look out for great deals all year round and keep an eye on the announcement board for special offers and promotions.

Already selling in the music category on eBay.com.au?

With the launch of eBay‘s music portal the Music category page has changed. Traditional music category items will now appear alongside the portal linking visitors to getmusic.com.au’s digital downloads.

The inclusion of a link direct to the music category page on the eBay header increases the prominence of all music category items on the site, making it even easier for buyers to get to your items. We believe the ability to access digitally downloaded music via eBay will enhance the buyer experience and keep buyers coming back to eBay.

***Changes to Customer Service Operations***

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200905061500202.html

06 May 2009 | 03:00PM EST

eBay announced today the consolidation of its North American Customer Services Operations and the planned closure of its Vancouver facility.

The consolidation of eBay’s North American customer service operations is expected to capture efficiencies and facilitate the delivery of new service programs designed to improve the customer experience with eBay.

For Australian buyers and sellers, the closure of the Vancouver customer service facility will mean the transition of support services, including telephone, email and live chat services, to existing facilities in the US and the Philippines by early August.

eBay’s Manila facility, which currently supplies a significant level of email and live chat services to Australian members, will expand its services, and eBay’s US facility in Salt Lake City will increase its services to the Australian market.

eBay is committed to supporting the individuals impacted by the Vancouver closure, and the Canadian facility will be closed for 24 hours to allow staff members time to consider details of the announcement. During this period, email and live chat services will continue to operate, while phone support will be available again from Friday morning, Australian time.

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200905250934022.html

In June, the summary page for both Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro will be upgraded with a new look and some additional features.

All the functionality currently offered on the summary page will still be available and any customisations you've already made will be carried over.

Here's an overview of the new features:

Customisable summary page
Every section on the new summary page (e.g. listing activity) has an edit option. This lets you move the sections around, change the colour and customise how your data is displayed.

Shortcuts menu
The Shortcuts menu from My eBay will be added to the Selling Manager and Selling Manager Pro summary page. You can use this section to display the links you use most often.

Account Status
Account Status gives you an overview of your account activity on the summary page. (If you would like to see this section, please go to Page Options in order to select it.)

More data in At a Glance
In the new summary page, At a Glance will show data of your recent sales for the previous 120 days.

Thanks for those messages, wheels. I know I should have replied to them but I've had so much catching up to do. Typically, sales rose as I got sick! (better not complain!!!)

I'm not sure what to make of it. When I'm logged in and check listings, the layout is totally different to the one I see when I'm not logged in!

10 September eBay changes to BIN, Search, Stores, Auctions

We're still Australia's leading online marketplace. With over 4.95 million unique visitors*, eBay is where more buyers are looking for items.

To remain competitive, we need to keep up with a rapidly changing e-commerce environment. Demand for Buy It Now has grown**, with more and more buyers wanting quality products at great prices, quickly and conveniently. We're aligning with this trend and making some changes to Stores, search and Buy It Now that will enable sellers to meet this growing demand.

We're launching changes to search that we're calling Best Match. Best Match will recognise sellers who provide great service and value with improved rankings in search results. Find out more about Best Match

You might have heard that we're replacing our current Stores with new Store packages and pricing. These changes are for business sellers and Store owners and won't affect the way you sell. There are no changes to the standard pricing so you can continue to sell in the same way you've always done. However, if you're looking to grow your business on eBay, find out how you can benefit from a range of Buy It Now price savings for Stores.

Auctions are an effective way to sell and are still very important to eBay.

***Changes to Unpaid Item dispute process***

23 October 2009 | 12:10PM EST

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200910231209592.html

With immediate effect, eBay is changing the Unpaid Item dispute process to make it quicker and more efficient for sellers.

The changes include:

    * Reducing the amount of time before a dispute can be opened from 7 to 4 days
    * Reducing the time to resolve a dispute from around 60 to approximately 30 days
    * Reducing the period of time after a sale for a dispute to be opened from 45 to 32days

If you intend to open a dispute for an item which remains unpaid for more than 30 days, but less than 45 days, you should contact customer service.

***eBay’s Vehicle Purchase Protection program to end 23 November 2009***

04 November 2009 | 10:42AM EST

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200911041042122.html

Over the past year, the number of claims to eBay’s Vehicle Purchase Protection program has decreased as more buyers take a proactive approach to safely buying a car. For the remaining claims that are received annually, it has become economically unviable to continue this insurance program coverage for car purchases. As such, any car purchases made after November 23, 2009 will no longer be covered by the Vehicle Purchase Protection program.

Please see our FAQ page for more details.

All vehicle buyers should take proactive steps to achieve a safe vehicle transaction. A helpful source of tips on purchasing vehicles is found in our buyer checklist. At the very least, eBay encourages buyers to undertake the following two actions when purchasing a vehicle online:

   1. Always inspect the car or have it inspected. A car is a large purchase, and it is best to inspect the vehicle before buying in order to make sure everything is as described. If you can’t get to the car because of time limitation or distance, get somebody else to inspect it for you. A professional inspection can discover mechanical or other issues that may not be visible.

   2. Purchase a vehicle history check. Learn the history of the vehicle by purchasing a report. eBay recommends Veda Auto Reports, but there are other providers. A $20 to $40 report can tell you if the car has any encumbrance or if it was written off.

No Smee, didn't get that one. My eBay ID mustn't be special enough.  ;D

But, I've just read the eligibility requirements for the free listings.

Who is eligible for this Promotion?
 * 'Qualifying Sellers' for the purpose of this Promotion are sellers who are validly registered members of any eBay site with an Australian registered address, and who have been invited to take part in the promotion by receiving an email invitation and/or My eBay messages invitation.
 * Persons whose eBay accounts have been temporarily or indefinitely suspended or made inactive by the Promoter during the Promotion, are not eligible for this Promotion.
 * Persons who have not been invited to take part in the Promotion are not eligible for the promotion. The eBay account referenced in the email invitation and/or My eBay messages invitation must be used to list, in order to participate in this Promotion.

You would think if eBay are trying to increase the number of listings the promotion would be sent to all eBay members, not just the invited ones.

***Changes to Selling Jewellery Policy – Effective January 2010***

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200911121026262.html

From 5 January 2010 eBay.com.au will begin enforcing the recently introduced Selling Jewellery Policy.

We had announced the introduction of this policy in August this year however after consultation with a number of Jewellery sellers, eBay decided to revise the policy before enforcing it. The revisions pertain to the sale of Gold Jewellery internationally and domestically.

The policy is available for review here. http://help.ebay.com.au/Help/Policies/Selling_-_listings/Jewellery,_metals-and-beads

***No anticipated disruption to Australia Post services during industrial action***

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/200912091739022.html

The Communication, Electrical and Plumbing Union (CEPU) announced today that there will be some industrial action taking place from Monday 14 December.

In discussions with Australia Post, eBay have been informed this action should not disrupt postage services or cause delays. The action proposed by the CEPU includes postal workers refusing to check postage stamps on standard letters potentially making it free to post Christmas cards, letters or similar. The CEPU has not been able to guarantee that unstamped letters will reach their destinations.

Sellers
We strongly encourage you to ensure adequate postage is paid on any items being sent to buyers via Australia Post during this period to minimise the chance of your item not being delivered or adverse buyer impact.

Buyers
If you are paying via cheque or money order (if accepted by the seller) and sending via Australia Post, we strongly encourage you to ensure adequate postage is paid to minimise the chance of your letter not being delivered.

eBay will monitor further developments and liaise with Australia Post to ensure you are informed of any actions that may impact buying or selling, in as timely a manner as possible.

(you know it's getting close to Christmas when there is talk of postal strikes, brewery strikes etc)

Picture Manager to be retired by end of April 2010

http://www2.ebay.com/aw/au/201004201404382.html

Picture Manager, eBay's paid subscription picture hosting service will be retired by the end of April this year. This will allow eBay to focus resources on improving the standard listing picture hosting services.

If you currently subscribe to Picture Manager, you can download your Picture Manager hosted pictures as zip files before unsubscribing. You should aim to do this as soon as possible.

If you have an eBay store subscription, pictures in your custom Store pages and Store logo will be automatically migrated to standard eBay picture hosting and will remain free.

Please see the Picture Manager FAQs for additional details.

***New Item Condition values coming to eBay.com.au***

28 April 2010 | 11:04AM EST

Over the next few weeks we will be introducing new Item Condition values on eBay.com.au.

These new values will replace the basic New and Used options currently available. The new values are intended to help sellers better manage buyers’ expectations and increase satisfaction by clearly defining the condition of an item in a uniform way.

While they do differ by category, below is an example of the new values being introduced:

    * Brand New (with tags/box)
A brand-new, unused, unopened, undamaged item in its original packaging (where packaging is applicable).

    * New – Never Used (without tags/box)
A new, unused item with absolutely no signs of wear. The item may be missing the original packaging, or in the original packaging but not sealed.

    * Manufacturer refurbished
An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer or manufacturer-approved vendor.

    * Seller refurbished
An item that has been restored to working order by the eBay seller or a third party not approved by the manufacturer.

    * Used
An item that has previously been used. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended.

    * For parts or not working
An item that does not function as intended and is not fully operational. This includes items that are defective in ways that render them difficult to use, items that require service or repair, or items missing essential components.

The new conditions will be available within the Phones category this week and then all other applicable categories from the week commencing 10 May 2010. View the complete list of Item Condition values and the categories to which they apply.

We realise the introduction of these values and the variations that apply within categories may seem a little overwhelming. Once available however, sellers can clearly see within the listing flow (whether using the Sell Your Item form on eBay, Turbo Lister or Selling Manager/Pro) the conditions that are available for their item.

Buyers will be able to quickly and easily filter listings based on condition preference using the ‘Refine Search’ options on the left of any search results page.

Item Condition specification will become mandatory
From late July this year, once sellers have had a chance to adapt to the new Item Conditions, Item Condition specification will become mandatory for almost all listings on eBay.com.au. There will be a small number of categories in which specification will continue to be optional. View the list of excluded categories.

Sellers – Update Listings
You should start to update listings as soon as the new values are available to ensure you are well prepared by the time item condition specification becomes mandatory in late July. Read our FAQs for further information regarding this change.

I plan to check whether or not antiques will be excluded from this... How silly if sellers were required to state whether or not their antique item were new.

What? People selling courses are not required to state whether or not they're brand spanking new?

Atrocious!

I only want new courses.

And please... please, don't try to sell me second-hand shoddy bulbs and seeds. I want them new, new, new, shiny and new.
