Iowa Say No To House Migrant Kids: ‘It’s Biden’s Problem’

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds said she rejected a request by the federal government to house migrant kids in the state for temporary housing. Saying that the state does not have temporary facilities to lend, the need to find a home is the President’s problem. Besides, her mandate and priority are the health and safety of Iowans.

Hours After Mass Shooting, Philly DA Downplayed Crime Spike
to Liberal Celebrities

Hours after eight people were shot in broad daylight outside a Philadelphia train station, the city's top law enforcement official downplayed a historic violent crime surge during a $1,000-a-head reelection fundraiser with Hollywood and Democratic VIPs, according to audio obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.

District attorney Larry Krasner did not mention the tragic event in his virtual address to liberal celebrity John Legend, Democratic Massachusetts senator Elizabeth Warren, and wealthy liberal donors. Krasner did, however, paint critics of his progressive crime policies as ignorant, lamenting that they get their understanding of crime from "watching Law & Order on television" and hold irrational fears of "werewolves running up and down the street."

Yeah, I watch a lot of Movies.

Most of the Zombie flix on streaming I already have
seen and bought the DVD.

The new flix, all of them, they all have a common underlying theme.

FX.

Good vs. Evil. Heroes. Love Interests.
Read the lines, hit the marks.

CGI does all the rest.

I tried to make a Montello Zombie flick,
back when I was loaded.

No help from anyone, especially "family".

The world suffers.
I get on just fine....

Movies have 2 points of my Interest.

A) They are doing what I did 30 years ago.

2) They plagerized what I did 30 years ago.

It's now our little secret.

What was The Beatles' most significant musical mistake?

The Beatles didn't make many musical mistakes as they are the best selling pop/rock group of all-time. However, their most significant mistake was a doozy and was a significant factor in breaking up the group.

In early 1969 The Beatles began work on an album tentatively titled Get Back. The concept behind it was to return to an earlier, less complicated approach to music. What exactly they were "getting back" to was never entirely clear as nearly all of their work had been recorded by George Martin at Abbey Road studios. Judging from the working photograph, a re-creation of the cover shot of their debut studio album, they were likely seeking an album recorded live in the studio with a limited amount of overdubs.

The rehearsals and subsequent sessions were disastrous. Acrimony caused George Harrison to temporarily leave the band. His condition for returning was that they resume sessions at their own Apple Studios, a sub par facility that was barely up and running. George Martin gave up on the project and it was ultimately shelved. The sessions were later mixed by Phil Spector and released as the Let it Be album in 1970. By this time The Beatles had already released what they intended to be their final album, Abbey Road, and had announced their breakup.

Had The Beatles taken some much needed time away from the group instead of embarking on this project the band may have survived or, at the very least, recorded the songs that appear on Let It Be at Abbey Road with George Martin. This would have resulted in a better record than the Spector produced Let It Be.

Was Jimi Hendrix so good that no one will ever match his expertise on guitar?

The thing is, Hendrix’s expertise on guitar whilst formidable and what people raved about at the time, with hindsight was more of a side effect than what really made him different.

The thing that actually set Hendrix apart at the time and to the present day was his creativity and innovation. Hendrix was an amazing guitar player as a consequence of his constant playing and working on ways to express all that creativity. As such, being ‘the worlds best guitar player’ had about as much significance for Hendrix as being ‘the worlds best typist’ for someone like novelist Earnest Hemingway. They were both going for much more meaningful and substantial objectives.

To think of Hendrix only as a guitar player is to completely miss the point.

Breaking Medical News

Breaking Now:

Just moments ago, the United States government recommended a “pause” in the administration of the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine while it investigates reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.

“In a joint statement Tuesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said they were investigating clots in six women that occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination. The clots were observed in the sinuses of the brain along with reduced platelet counts — making the usual treatment for blood clots, the blood thinner heparin, potentially ‘dangerous,'” according to The Denver Post. Beyond Sick: China Tries Coverup Genocide With Uyghur Musical

Let’s cut to the chase: the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is a deeply sick and demented political body.

Perhaps a cause of this sickness is the cold-blooded decision-making of a vast bureaucracy — i.e., communism — which could be replicated in any country around the world at scale, but the Han Chinese seem to have a particular penchant for committing the most abhorrent atrocities against any minority in the name of Xi Xinping’s “thoughts,” or whatever crap du jour the CCP is shoveling into the mouths of the jingoistic masses (at a certain point, the Chinese people themselves are ALSO fully to blame for their complicity).

There is an old adage in advertising: when you have nothing to say, sing it. Or in China’s case, put on a musical to cover up genocide.

Former Retired Nurse

How do old people with low net worths live life? What are their lives like?

I am in my seventies, but I am luckier than most old people for two reasons. One is that when I was young I worked and visited countries where people had NOTHING, so although I have what to most young people would seem a very mundane life with no modern electrical gadgets except for my old faithful cronky desk top computer I feel immensely rich!

I have lived for most of my life in fallen-down houses which have been so bad that three times the house had had to be demolished as unfit for human habitation when I moved out. But because I was, when I was young, nauseatingly positive, I really didn’t mind that much as we lived near the sea most of the time which is like having a massive play ground on your doorstep and a source of constant free entertainment for children.

I have always lived in the country since we moved here to the Eastern states of Australia so the second big reason that I survive and am lucky is that I have always been able to grown my own vegetables and being vegetarian that helps eke out a pathetic income.

A salary here for a single person who is working is considered low if a person had an earing of $1000.00 per week A person on a seniors pension has about $ 300,00 coming in a week if they are on a full pension. It is easier and just possible to survive if you own your own home and never buy any new clothes and you buy anything else that you can from the op. shop and never have holidays or smoke or drink or in fact, do most things that cost money.

Life is made easier and more possible as an old person if you try and make good friends and if you are lucky enough to join a good church of enjoy group activities it is possible to live on the smell of an oily rag and stay just about sane. I am rather an introverted person who doesn’t really like groups. ( Being deaf doesn’t help) and as I spent most of my life in a nursing or carer roll I had a very bad case of ‘empty nest’ syndrome when I had to retire and the kids had to leave the area to find work.

I had planned to do more volunteer caring work, as volunteering is one great way to stop becoming depressed as you are thinking of others all the time, but I was so exhausted by the time I had retired and at last finished nursed my own old parents who lived to be nearly one hundred, that I just couldn’t summon up the energy to go back into carer role. Well, not with humans, but as I had been rescuing animals all my life, I decided to help out Animal Aid with rescuing, neutering and homing feral and abandoned cas. My worst nightmare had come true.. I had actually turned into an old CAT LADY ! Yes! The sort of person I used to laugh at! Such a cliche! Actually, the reality is that it is wonderful as it gives me an opportunity to show love and compassion to animals who are not half as demanding as needy humans.

My adult children have got good jobs now, because, although we were too poor when they were little to even buy shoes and we had our furniture and household stuff off the tip, it was still possible to work your way out of poverty if you were lucky and willing to go without virtually anything except bare essentials as there are chances for education here that mean that even poor here people have access to education that can lead to good jobs later in life if they are lucky.

I can’t possibly be unhappy and ungrateful with my lot, even though most young people would have no idea how we can survive on so little, as I am so fully aware that I am luckier that millions of people of my age all over the world. Mind you, the aging body and the aches and pains that come with it and the fact that many of your friends were so selfish that they died on you (!) does make it sometimes a little harder to stay blissfully positive as grieving the people you have loved is part and parcel of growing old and it takes a lot of will power and keeping a constant check on your thoughts to stay positive.

By the way, I am learning French as they say that us oldies might be less of a pain if we exercised our brains and learning a new language helps to keep our brain cells from shriveling up so that we can appear less potty to those around us!

Daunte Wright

Police officials in Brooklyn Center, Minnesota, said yesterday an officer who fatally shot a motorist during a Sunday traffic stop mistakenly pulled their gun instead of their Taser.

Twenty-year-old Duante Wright, a Black man, had been pulled over in the early afternoon for a traffic violation. Officers attempted to detain him after finding he had an outstanding warrant; Wright attempted to get back in the vehicle and flee. Body camera footage from the incident (view here, warning: sensitive content)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dWpHPDmS-eA
shows an officer yelling "Taser" before discharging their firearm. Wright was pronounced dead a few blocks from the scene, where his vehicle crashed. The killing sparked protests across the Minneapolis region, with a reported 40 people arrested last night.

Tensions in the area are already high in anticipation of a verdict in the Derek Chauvin murder trial. The prosecution is expected to rest its case today; George Floyd's brother took the stand yesterday. Chauvin's defense will make opening statements today. See a recap of the trial here.

WATCH: Reporters Insist There Was No Riot in Minneapolis

Riots and protests broke out across the city of Minneapolis on Sunday following the police shooting of 20-year-old Daunte Wright. Several local businesses have been "completely destroyed" by looters, according to the Star Tribune, and police were forced to use tear gas to disperse protesters who were throwing rocks at law enforcement.

When police chief Tim Gannon described the unrest as a "riot" during a press conference on Monday,  several reporters responded that "there was no riot."

Ridiculous: Rashida Tlaib Calls for ‘No More Policing’
After Daunte Wright Shooting

Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan is currently facing intense criticism after she called to stop “policing” following Daunte Wright’s fatal shooting by a police officer.

On Twitter, the Michigan representative said that the incident wasn’t an accident. She also used “inherently and intentionally racist” to describe policing in the country, and said that law enforcement used “aggression and violence” on Wright. Tlaib then said that she’s “done” with people who condone what she called “government-funded murder.”

Texas Is Suffering Through Food Bank Shortages

We could see this one coming a mile away.

Prior to Thanksgiving last year, food industry experts predicted that the nation's food banks could run out of food before long.

Due mainly to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and its ramifications, the problem got even worse by Christmas.

Many hungry Americans were depending on food pantries for their holiday meals. Some food banks came up with enough to take care of those needs. But the effort wiped out their supplies.

In 2020, the number of Americans experiencing food insecurity rose from less than 18 million to more than 22 million. That's according to the U.S. Census Bureau's Household Pulse Survey. Now it's up to 35 million, according to Feeding America.

Six-Fold Problem

It's been a horrible time for food banks. For one, less food is being donated. Due to businesses closing and people losing jobs. Two, more people than ever are counting on food pantries for their meals. Including many who lost employment.

Three, the food supply chain itself has been affected. With workers becoming ill and having to take time off, less food gets produced and distributed.

Four, the number of food bank volunteers has dwindled. Some volunteers are concerned about exposure to the virus. Especially older ones. Five, food prices have risen. Nonprofit groups can't buy as much food as before.

And six, extreme weather has destroyed produce grown specifically to supply food pantries.

Winter Storm Uri Wreaked Havoc

The weather problem has been especially brutal in Texas. As I'm sure you remember, the Lone Star State was hit with snow, ice and extreme cold in February.

Historic Winter Storm Uri resulted in at least 31 deaths and many hospitalizations. More than 5 million homes and businesses lost electrical power.

All due to record-breaking frigid temperatures. And a killer storm featuring snow and ice. On February 15, it was colder in Houston, Texas than it was in Houston, Alaska.

Now, more than 2.6 million households in Texas say they sometimes or often don't have enough to eat.

Pandemic Exacerbates the Issue

Food banks in Texas are used to sudden increases in demand. Especially during and following heat waves, hurricanes and flooding.

But with the pandemic, it's been an increasing and ongoing need for more than a year.

Eric Cooper is president and CEO of the San Antonio Food Bank. "(The virus) was a disaster that was staying around," he said. "It wasn't just coming and going as many of the disasters in Texas."

Even before Uri, thousands of cars would line up for food in San Antonio. Families would wait hours for bags of beans, canned goods, fresh produce and milk.

'St. Valentine's Day Massacre'

And then the storm hit on Valentine's Day. Power outages and water outages forced people to sleep in freezing homes and cars.

Farmers lost crops. Orange and grapefruit trees were destroyed. Millions of gallons of milk had to be dumped out.

One farmer told CNN, "We have fields (of cabbage and onions) that didn't survive and we've already plowed them up."

A Texas trade association president said, "The timing of this freeze could not have come at a worse time." He described it as the "St. Valentine's Day massacre."

Produce Destruction Hurts Pantries

Sid Miller is the Texas Agriculture Commissioner. He said, "People don't realize how devastating this was to agriculture. Food banks are the recipient of that. It’s a ripple effect."

The destruction of produce comes at a time when food banks are trying to supply people with healthier foods.

Celia Cole, CEO of Feeding Texas, said their goal is to make fresh fruits and vegetables at least one-half of the food being distributed to the community.

Some growers who normally contribute produce to food pantries won't be able to this year. Texas food banks are reaching out to other states. But the cost of bringing in fresh foods is high.

A Nationwide Dilemma

And, of course, the food bank problem is not limited to Texas.

Ellen Vollinger is legal director at the Washington, D.C.-based Food Research and Action Center. She said this. "It's not surprising to see so many 'new needy.' Even before the pandemic, millions of working Americans were living on the edge of poverty."

Pam Denholm is executive director of the Weymouth Food Pantry in Massachusetts. She said, "The demand has increased dramatically. All across America, we have these middle-class communities that are being deeply affected."

At the nearby Medway Village Church Pantry, the situation is similar. "We have seen so many new families coming in," said director Susan Dietrich.

"Probably the most difficult thing I've seen throughout this pandemic are the families that come and bring their children. Mom’s struggling… She's trying to make sure she can continue to put food on the table. That’s something that really hits you."

Feeding the Hungry

People who require food assistance should contact local food banks, pantries or soup kitchens.

Other options are local churches, faith-based groups and the Salvation Army. Seniors and the disabled can register for Meals on Wheels.

And those who have been blessed with more than enough should look for ways to provide for those in need.

There's no better feeling than knowing you've helped feed a hungry person.
