Official urge residents, visitors to avoid mountain travel

The first storm that hit the Big Bear Valley over the last two days is just an opening act for what will be the main event, forecast today into tomorrow.

The San Diego Office of the National Weather Service issued a blizzard warning for the region’s highest mountain ranges, including the San Bernardino Mountains. It’s the first time in their history that they’ve issued such a warning. It’s in effect from 4 a.m. Friday morning to 4 a.m. Saturday morning. Other area meteorologists are predicting the most snowfall in a single storm since the deluge of 1989. According to CalTrans, everywhere in the Valley remains under R-3 chain restrictions, which means all vehicles – even those with 4-wheel drive and snow tires – are required to have chains on.

Mountain Transit suspended all service until further notice starting on Thursday. “We try very hard not to suspend service however when we do, the decision is always heavily weighted by safety concerns,” said General Manager Sandy Benson. “Very rarely have we seen conditions at the R-3 level for such an extended time as we are seeing with this storm pattern.”

Mountain Transit is continuing with limited-service Friday, Benson said, running one Red line and one Blue line from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. using their 4-wheel-drive vans outfitted with chains.

The notorious slip-and-slide on Maple Lane between Big Bear High School and Big Bear Blvd. has been shuttered in both directions for the first time in memory. Grizzly Facebook commenter Connie Bramiette Lowers said she’d never seen that particular portion of dangerous roadway closed in her 35 years in the Valley. Others agreed.

As the snow level continued to increase yesterday, so too did the notices from local businesses of closures due to inclement weather. Bear Valley Community Hospital closed its family and rural health centers, though the emergency room remains open. The VCA, Alpine Zoo, Big Bear Lake Brewing Co., and Big Bear Discovery Center are just a few that posted closure notices. After a busy lunch rush Thursday, No Name Pizza closed early, posting on social media that they didn’t want to have to spend the night in the restaurant. Prep sports and community events have been canceled or postponed. Despite the original skepticism shared among longtime Valley residents on social media when the original forecast came out, the first onslaught, road closures and the blizzard warning have made believers out of most residents.

Short-term rental cancellations also ticked up significantly. Customers who may be within the cancellation window and normally not able to receive a refund, can contact Airbnb and explain their inability to travel up the mountain in an attempt to get their money back.

Officials are also reminding residents to plan as if the power might go out and to not heat their homes using ovens, stoves, or grills due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. This is so much like storms that were quite common when our family was young and growing up in Running Springs during the 1940’s through the 1980’s. We even tobogganed off our roof now and then in the 1950’s and built an igloo in our driveway. No news like this coverage to scare people or give good warnings to drivers of the dangers. We just got out the games and candles and camp stove for cooking and lots of wood drying in the hall for the huge fireplace. Lots of Monopoly, Chess and jigsaw puzzles! Ice from the roof for drinks and snow ice cream.

Big Bear Sheriff Station

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Big Bear Station, is urging all residents to shelter in place until the duration of the storm.
All highways to and from the Big Bear communities are currently closed. All roads within the Big Bear communities are at R3 restrictions. Caltrans is working to maintain Highway 18 from Lucerne Valley to Big Bear in effort to provide escorts of essential supplies such as groceries and fuel. Big Bear Sheriff’s deputies will be working along with California Highway Patrol to provide the escorts.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department urges the public's assistance to shelter in place during this difficult time until essential services have been rendered and the roads are maintained.

I've been down here for 10 days now and it is just horrible I was prepared I bought over 300 dollars worth of groceries before this storm came thank God i did that my son is stuck at home with the animals so glad i left him with the furbabies they would be dead now this not letting us up to our home is despicable the CHP laughed at me when i told them my 7 month old puppy ran out of food Saturday they are cold hearted fools!!!!

Thankful I was telling my neighbor what they did n she said she has a puppy n that she would send her son over with some food so thankful but I still need to get my pup his food it is just awful I have them on the food list hope someone comes to the house with food for my pup.

I have tons of rice I could possibly feed him if no food gets there but the ppl keeping us from going up should be ashamed of themselves I hope they sleep terribly and have Karma hit them in the face

After California Hit with Freak Winter Storm – Newsom Outrages Citizens by Abandoning them on “Personal Trip”

What’s Happening:

So much for “global warming,” huh? After struggling through a lack of rain and painful droughts, California was hit with a season-ending winter storm. According to reports, snow averages were around 10 feet–while some communities got as much as 48 over the season. Some towns had to wait days for plows to show up, leaving countless residents stuck inside their homes.

But where was the governor during all this? Looks like Newsom was pulling a Buttigieg and was partying out of town.

The office of California Gov. Gavin Newsom told Fox News Digital that the Democrat has “returned to the state” after taking a “personal trip in Baja California” while residents were dealing with the aftermath of devastating winter storms that dumped as much as 10 feet of snow…

“The Governor was on a personal trip in Baja California,” his office told Fox News Digital late Monday night.

Oh, really? While California was getting hammered by snow, the governor was enjoying a “personal trip.” Which is another way of saying “vacation.” Must be nice, huh? While so many California residents were shoveling out of ten feet or more of snow, Newsom was sipping on mai tais and getting some sun.

Call me crazy, but I think a public servant needs to put aside his personal plans, when crises hit. But it seems Democrats think differently. They are more concerned with looking after themselves than the people they vowed to lead.

And Californians were not happy about what was going on.

That’s really unbelievable. Some folks were trapped for ten days, before snow plows could arrive. Really? Ten days? Where were these plows, stuck in traffic? When cities know that bad weather is coming, they are supposed to mobilize their relief efforts before the snow arrives. I guess you can’t do that very well… from Baja.

It looks as if Gov. Newsom–who spends most of his time attacking conservative states–was MIA when California needed him. We aren’t surprised, though. This is the same man who shut down California for years… while he was partying at restaurants.

Since billionaire Elon Musk acquired the platform, Twitter has been experiencing persistent growing pains. The social media company’s revenue plummeted by almost 40% in December 2022 amid deflated advertising income. The drop in revenue and earnings was reported in a message to investors. The company is now working to pay off the nearly $13 billion in debt stemming from Musk’s purchase, which has annual interest payments totaling about $1 billion.

According to The Wall Street Journal, 70 of Twitter’s 100 leading advertisers have not spent on the platform since Musk’s takeover. Advertisers reportedly left due to concerns that their ads could appear next to controversial content.

Do narcissists care if you ignore them?

If your ignoring the narcissist, then it's more than likely for a very good reason. Your not ignoring them for attention or playing their ghosting games, as they may do, for fun. Your ignoring them because of some hurt they have inflicted upon you. And they know when they have hurt you and they may very well expect to be ignored.

But do they care ? Overall not really. They may make a couple of attempts to get your attention, but this will only be short lived as they see that you have only two choices. Either except them for what they are, or ignore them forever. If you feel deeply for them, then the chances are you won't be able to ignore them for long. If they dangle the carrot, they know that eventually you will bite. And if you don't, then they very well may have another supply who will. They more than likely, never leave themselves backed into a corner, where being ignored by you will have such, if any, impact upon them.

If you choose to completely ignore them and try to move on, some will confine you to history and use your ignoring of them, for their own gains. Instead of understanding how they may have hurt you, hence your ignoring of them because trying to reason with them was futile, they will use that as an excuse to drop you. Which they will see as your own fault, irrespective of the hurt they may have caused you in the first place.

Whether you ignore them or idolise them, doesn't really effect the final outcome for them. Either way the chances are, as in the majority of cases, you'll end up being discarded by them. Ignoring them, to try to get them to see how they may have hurt you, may not give you the outcome that you hoped for. Ignoring them, because you no longer want them in your life may have a small impact on them, but not to much, as they will already be looking for more supplies and as such won't be waisting much time on thinking about you or caring about what you do. Narcissists on the whole don't really care what you think, whether that's loving them or ignoring them. It's not about you, it's just all about them.

Authorities say 13 people have been found dead so far following historic storms that buried the San Bernardino Mountains under several feet of snow, covering homes and paralyzing travel.

Only one of the deaths, however, was weather-related, officials said. The person died at the hospital as the result of a car crash during the storm, according to an updated news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.

Four of the people who died were either in hospice or died in the hospital, while eight deaths remain under investigation.
