yes stainless steel.

Common steel rusts around the nether regions from the times you cant get the codpiece undone in time and you cant hold off any longer

I had investigated a locking swivel solution - but it was still being researched.  Early implementations had a habit of the pivot mechanism failing, causing embarrassment, discomfort and an increased risk of injury.

Such was the frequency of these occurrences, that declaration of the phrase "coming unhinged!" became familiar to all, but only the knights truly understood the implication.

As a result, amongst the greater common populace, the phrase soon became associated with an angry tirade - the knights' common reaction to such an imminent threat of embarrassment, which they used to distract attention.

So, next time you hear someone call out to a knight "You're coming unhinged" - turn not your head away in fear and trepidation, but observe and see if you can identify the circumstances in which that piece of armour is failing.

Every knight will thank you if you have a good look!!

I have heard it said that that phrase was steeped in history.

'Throwing down the gauntlet' originated around the same period. That phrase is commonly thought  be a challenge, when it fact it was an action to cover the gaping hole when a Knight got unhinged

The mind boggles !!!

I have often pondered where the phrase "Arise sir Knight" may have come from

Was it a request from a fair maiden or was it a command from a damsel in distress?

Rosie, never underestimate the stamina or endurance of a true Knight

The word 'Knight' was was derived the word 'night' the 'K' is an abreviation of what a lot of them did all night and it is a prefix.

Knights dubbed Knights after an all night 'vigil' and were commanded to 'Arise!! Sir Knight'

Afternoon, Prim. I've just dropped in for a quick visit. No whinges from me! Yet!  :D

I'm a bit disappointed that I couldn't stay up all night to have the Last Word. I really need my beauty sleep!
Gotta go now. Will be back later.
