It runs all the time, and notifies you if anything tries to change your auto exe files, or other programmes.

You can manually click on the icon ( who will bark at you ) and check and/or delete all or selected cookies.

It's a great programme to check you hidden files for changes.

Surprised nobody has mentioned Avast yet.  It has a free version and a paid for one with more bells and whistles.  Been using the free version for two years now and have never had an infection.
