What We Saw At Protest Outside Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s House
May 11, 2022

A small group of protestors dressed in costumes from "The Handmaids Tale" marched around Justice Amy Coney Barrett's home in Northern Virginia, May 11.

Pro-abortion protesters dressed as characters from “The Handmaid’s Tale” marched outside Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett’s home in the Washington, D.C. suburb of Falls Church, Virginia, Wednesday night.

The crowd was much smaller than the groups of protestors who marched to the houses of Justices Brett Kavanaugh, John Roberts, and Samuel Alito on Saturday and Monday, consisting of seven marchers.

The ongoing protests come on the heels of a statement by the Justice Department announcing increased security for the justices.

“Attorney General [Merrick] Garland continues to be briefed on security matters related to the Supreme Court and Supreme Court Justices,” Anthony Coley, a Department spokesman, said. “The Attorney General directed the U.S. Marshals Service to help ensure the Justices’ safety by providing additional support to the Marshal of the Supreme Court and Supreme Court Police.”

State police were present during the protest at Barrett’s suburban home, fulfilling a promise by Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, to increase security for the justices.

“We have been coordinating with Fairfax County Police County, Virginia State Police, and federal authorities to ensure that there isn’t violence. Virginia State Police were closely monitoring, fully coordinated with Fairfax County and near the protests,” tweeted Youngkin on Monday, following the protest at Justice Alito’s house.

It did not appear that Barrrett or her family were at the residence during the demonstrations.

The protests outside Barrett’s home, and the homes of the other justices, are in response to a leaked draft opinion of the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case, which indicates that the Supreme Court is set to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The draft opinion, written by Alito, said that “Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” and “that Roe and Casey must be overruled.” The final opinion has not yet been released, but is expected to come

The pro-abortion protests walked around Barrett’s cul-de-sac for about 10 minutes before walking out of her neighborhood.

California To Hire "Water Cops" As Residents Ignore Newsom's Conservation Plea Amid Megadrought
MAY 11, 2022

California plans to hire "water cops" to monitor people and businesses wasting water as statewide usage soared in March despite Gov. Gavin Newsom declaring a drought emergency last July and parts of Southern California under water restrictions, according to The Mercury News.

The Santa Clara Valley Water District, south of the San Francisco Bay Area, encompassing 15 cities and more than 2 million residents, is considering "water cops" to police neighborhoods and business districts for water wasters. People who are wasting water could be fined up to $500.

Water cops may slap citations for people watering their yards for long periods of time and washing cars in the driveway.

Aaron Baker, the COO of Valley Water, told CBS News that water cops are "needed because of the unprecedented times we're in, and because we aren't making enough progress on our water savings."

The threat of water cops snooping on people comes as California's total water usage in March was the most since 2015 despite calls for conservation amid a megadrought.

California Water Resources Control Board said water usage jumped 19% compared to March 2020.

On a regional basis, Bay Area was up 2.5% in March YoY. Soaring demand was primarily in Southern California: Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego counties jumped 26.9%.

Californians aren't listening to the state government, even with Newsom's drought emergency deceleration last July. This could be problematic because a dry spring and lack of statewide mandatory conservation standards, with forecasts for a scorching summer, may suggest the water crisis could worsen.

"We just came off the driest January, February and March in recorded history.

"It was a jaw-droppingly dry three months. People started turning on their sprinklers early. That's where the water went. To their lawns. Pure and simple," said Jeffrey Mount, a professor emeritus at UC Davis and senior fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California's water center.

The latest examples of an expanding water crisis are the Angeles Department of Water and Power and East Bay Municipal Utility restricting the amount customers can water their yards.

"The lack of conservation is becoming a growing political embarrassment for Newsom, whose call for 15% conservation so far has been voluntary," The Mercury News said. To be effective, this may suggest the state government might have to get tough on water wasters to meet conservation targets.

To do this: Unleash water cops.

Victims of Florida condo collapse reach $997 million settlement
May 11, 2022

Relatives of those killed in the Surfside, Florida, condo collapse reached a settlement Wednesday to resolve wrongful death claims.

The $997 million payout, announced in a court hearing, would settle claims brought by family members of the 98 people who died in the collapse of Champlain Towers South in June of last year, according to NBC Miami. Only one of the remaining defendants has not settled the claims but is expected to do so soon, attorneys for the victims said.

An auction date for the lot where the building once stood has also been set for May 24, with the minimum bid set at $120 million.

The defendants whose settlements were announced in the hearing include the developer and builder of Eighty-Seven Park, a luxury condo built just south of the towers between 2016 and 2021. The developer of the park, Terra Group, and the builder, John Moriarty and Associates of Florida, along with subcontractors involved were accused of contributing to the condo's collapse with vibrations caused by driving pile sheets into the adjacent property.

Settlements totaling $106 million had already been reached with insurers for the Champlain Towers South condo association, its engineer, its law firm, and engineers involved in the development of Eighty-Seven Park, said the NBC Miami report, which added that all of the defendants who settled previously have denied any responsibility for the condo's collapse.

An $83 million settlement for people who lost condo property from the collapse was settled in March and will be split based on the size of their units.

16 Smart Ways to Instantly Increase Your Privacy
HOME & SHELTER, Privacy & Data Protection, SECURITY

In the modern world, where everything from your smartphone to your Google searches tracks your every move, the idea of total privacy might seem alien.

In reality, privacy is more important than ever, both online and offline. Here are some tips and tricks to help you instantly increase your privacy, both in the digital world and the real one.

Tips for the Real World
First, since it’s where we spend most of our time, let’s take a closer look at some ways to increase and protect your privacy in the real world.

Be Aware of Your Surroundings
Honing your situational awareness skills can save your life someday. It is also a valuable skill for assessing your surroundings to determine where your current privacy precautions might be lacking.

Take your home, for example. If you’re worried about people peering through your windows, take a walk around your neighborhood at different times of the day.

You might not be able to see through the windows while the sun is up, but once night falls and the windows are lit, it may be easy to see into any room in your home with a window. From there, you can take the necessary steps to protect your privacy.

Invest in a Privacy Fence
If they can’t see your home, they can’t invade your privacy. Installing a privacy fence can be a fantastic way to keep nosy neighbors from sticking their noses where they don’t belong.

It can be expensive, and depending on where you live, you may need to obtain building permits or permission from your homeowner’s association. Still, if privacy is a concern, it’s worth any expense.

Tint Your Windows
Windows are often the most significant problem when it comes to privacy. You can hang heavy curtains, but then you’re losing out on all the benefits of natural light in your home. Instead of blocking out all the light, blocking the vision of nosy neighbors becomes the next best option.

Tinting your windows allows in some sunshine while guarding against prying eyes. You can also choose to tint your car windows, which will help improve the privacy in your car and your home.

Grow a Privacy Wall
If building a privacy fence isn’t an option, why not turn to the tools Mother Nature has already provided? Hedges, vines, and other plant life can all provide some additional privacy and protection without the additional expense of building a fence. Bamboo grows incredibly fast and prolifically, so you won’t have to wait long to keep people from prying into your business.

Be careful to choose plant life that thrives in your growing zone and ensure you’re tending to them regularly so they can grow and thrive.

Utilize Doorbell Cameras
Opening the door can put you at risk, especially if you’re home alone. Instead of allowing someone to knock on your door and breach your privacy, a doorbell camera can let you see who’s knocking and even converse with them without ever unlocking your deadbolt or allowing them across your threshold. Some even allow you to monitor the door remotely to see who is approaching when you’re not home.

Don’t Answer the Phone
Whether you have a house phone, a cell phone, or both, most people get more scam calls than legitimate ones. Providers like T-Mobile provide a Scam Shield service for an additional fee, but it doesn’t work if you answer the phone each time it rings.

Don’t answer the phone, but make sure you set up your voicemail inbox. If someone needs to reach you, they can leave a voicemail message and request that you return their call.

Guard Your Pin
Your personal identification number, or PIN, gives you access to your bank account – and if someone makes off with your card and that number, it could provide them with access as well. Guard your pin when you’re out in public.

Make sure you cover the keypad when you enter your pin at ATMs or points of sale. It’s a simple change, but it can save you a lot of hassle if someone steals your card number or manages to make off with your wallet.

Be Aware of RFID
Touchless purchasing gained a lot of momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic. It’s a fantastic tool to help you stay healthy, but equipping debit and credit cards with the RFID chips that make these transactions possible can also put your information at risk.

If your card is capable of touchless payments, make sure you’re investing in a wallet that can block RFID signals. The trouble is minor, with the range of most RFID scanners limited to a few feet, but the risk is still there nonetheless.

Burn or Shred All Old Documents
We receive a lot of personal information in the mail every day, from bills and bank statements to pre-approved credit offers and other junk that contains our personal information. Throwing these things away could put your privacy at risk.

Instead of just tossing them out with the trash, burn or shred all these old documents. Break them down so identity thieves can’t reassemble them and steal your private information.

Tips for the Digital World
Time to explore some ones and zeros. Here are some tips to help you figure out how to protect your privacy in the digital world.

Set Up Two-Factor Authentication
Two-factor authentication is one of the best ways to protect yourself in a digital space. It requires a random code created by a secure generator that you keep on your phone or one that is sent to your email or text message inbox to log in. It’s not perfect, but it is currently one of the best ways to secure yourself in an online space.

Only Utilize Secure Websites
Take a close look at the URL of each website you visit. Does it start with “http://” or “https://”? The latter is what you need to look for. This indicates that the site uses end-to-end encryption and that your internet experience is secure.

It doesn’t mean the site won’t sell your information, especially if you’re dealing with a social media website like Facebook. Still, it does protect you from malicious actors that might be able to take advantage of an unsecured or unencrypted website.

Use a VPN
Utilizing a VPN, or virtual private network, is a tool that can help improve your online experience and protect your privacy. It works by creating a secure and encrypted connection between your computer and the wide world of the internet.

This tool is handy if you’re connecting through a public internet network because it works to protect your privacy while still allowing you to utilize these public internet hubs to keep you connected.

Change Your Passwords Frequently
A password is the first line of digital defense. We tend to create passwords that are easy to remember, but that can also make them easy to breach. Generating random passwords and changing them frequently can help you protect your online privacy.

Keeping the same password can be problematic if hackers come back to your account and try the same password more than once. Take the time to change your passwords regularly.

Encrypt Your Data
We expect to see encryption on websites that we frequent, but what about the files we store on our home or work machines? Instead of leaving your files open to attack if someone makes their way into your network, consider encrypting them as well. Microsoft and Apple both provide users with the tools they need to encrypt and protect their files.

If you’re not a fan of this built-in encryption, third-party programs are available to accomplish the same task, though you may spend a pretty penny to achieve that same goal.

Turn Off Location Settings
Your phone comes equipped with GPS, which can come in handy to help you navigate to a new location, but it also enables people to track your location.

The easiest way to protect your privacy, in this case, is to turn off your phone’s location settings unless you’re actively using them. It can also put your security at risk, especially if you like to post pictures online. Most phones add a locational geotag to your photo’s metadata, which bad actors can use to pinpoint your location.

Opt Out of Tracking Services
Every time you log into your social media websites or search for something on Google, you’re tracked. These sites place cookies on your devices that allow site owners to monitor how often you visit a website and what you do on that site. Most give you the option of opting out of cookies and other tracking options that can help you protect your online privacy.

Protect Yourself at All Times
There are always bad actors and malicious individuals intent on stealing your information. Taking some of these steps can help protect you and your private data both online and in the real world.

Most of the changes are simple. Things like changing your password frequently or investing in a VPN service can make a big difference if you focus on preserving your private data.

‘He’s lost it’: President Biden starts screaming about his own food shortages, blames MAGA King
May 12, 2022

Another day, another collection of moments that leave Americans – and the world  – wondering about President Joe Biden’s ability to lead the nation.

The 79-year-old president continues to deny that he and his administration are currently to blame for the myriad crises facing the U.S. and he spent time Wednesday railing against everyone from his predecessor to Russia’s Vladimir Putin for America’s woes.

Even before his eyebrow-raising speech in Illinois, Biden had a momentary slip as he ascended the steps to Air Force One, reviving memories of his falling three times up those stairs last year. The president “quickly gripped the railing to steady himself and avoid any serious fall,” according to Daily Mail.

But once at his destination, Biden’s strange speech at an Illinois fundraiser sparked immediate reactions after he began screaming about food shortages and other ills facing the nation under his watch.

“Remember those long lines you’d see on the television and people lining up in all kinds of vehicles just to get a box of food in their trunk? How quickly we forget people were hurting,” Biden said.

“And what did the MAGA crowd want to do? Forget it. Forget it,” he continued angrily. “God, this is the United States of America. The idea that people would have to wait in line an hour or hour and a half to get a box of food in their trunk — it’s just unbelievable.”

His meltdown once again raised questions.

Biden continues to hand former President Donald Trump and his supporters plenty of free advertising. He railed against his predecessor as if the effects of his own disastrous policies were brought on by the 45th president – whom he incredibly labeled “the great MAGA king.”

“Under my predecessor — the great MAGA king — the deficit increased every single year he was president. The first year of my presidency, the first year, I reduced the deficit, literally reduced the deficit by $350 billion, first year,” he told the audience at the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers conference in Chicago.

Twitter users were highly entertained that Biden’s attempt to disparage Trump was not the “own” he thought it was.

20 State AG's Warn They'll Sue Biden Admin To End DHS Ministry of Truth – Where Have They Been?
MAY 10, 2022

Contemporary fans of the classic Sherlock Holmes tales often cite his uncanny knack for pattern recognition and powers of deduction as two of the main reasons they enjoy the stories of the Great Detective battling Victorian baddies. But one need not be a sleuth of Holmes’ caliber to recognize some troubling patterns in Washington and among its hive of constitution-shirking payoff recipients, and to wonder why people weren’t alarmed long ago.

Dan Frieth reports for Reclaim The Net that 20 state Attorneys General have threatened legal action against the Biden Administration if Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) does not disband its newly created “Disinformation Governance Board” faster than Holmes might have uttered, “The game’s afoot!”

Virginia’s AG Jason Miyares and 19 other attorneys general sent a letter to Alejandro Mayorkas, the Homeland Security Secretary, demanding the dissolution of the Disinformation Governance Board.

Frieth and Reclaim The Net obtained the letter, offered a link to it, and covered many of the central points, foremost among them being the AGs’ fear that this new DHS creation will have a chilling effect on free speech.

’This is an unacceptable and downright alarming encroachment on every citizen’s right to express his or her opinions, engage in political debate, and disagree with the government,’ the attorneys general wrote.

And Frieth went on to recall something important, along with the current controversy:

The Republicans are taking issue with the timing of the new board, as it comes after it was revealed that the White House was flagging posts on behalf of social media platforms. Additionally, it comes just after Tesla CEO Elon Musk, a self-described free speech absolutist, made a bid for Twitter.

And for those of us who have been hit so often and so swiftly by political attacks on everything from our ability to travel unmolested to being free from government surveillance, that particular reference to the White House flagging posts might need some amplification.

Here, Frieth refers to last year’s revelation that the Bidenistas were monitoring Facebook posts about COVID19, flagging the ones they didn’t like, and sending the info to Facebook officials to gag said users.

Because leftists love free speech, right?

Evidently, that wasn’t enough for state-level lawyers to protest, and it’s taken this new twist on Big Brother, in the face of Big Sis, Nina Jankowicz, the newly appointed head of the DHS Ministry of Truth, coming just as Elon Musk indicates that his coming control of Twitter might allow freer speech on that social media platform.

’Suddenly, just as Elon Musk prepares to acquire Twitter with the stated purpose of correcting the platform’s censorship of free speech, you announce the creation of the Disinformation Governance Board. As the Biden Administration apparently loses a critical ally in its campaign to suppress speech it deems ‘problematic’, you have created a new government body to continue that work within the federal government,’ the letter says.

And the AGs make a few other points, one of which is much more important than the other.

The Republicans also expressed concern about the leader of the board, Nina Jankowicz, noting that she is ‘often in error but never in doubt.’ She claimed the Hunter Biden laptop story was Russian propaganda, a theory that has since been proven wrong.

The attorneys general argue the board is illegal because there is ‘no statutory authority’ supporting its creation.

But, as I pointed out last week for MRCTV, and as Judge Andrew Napolitano powerfully observed, the character and error-fraught behavior of Ms. Ministry of Truth are not the key points, and neither is the claim by the AGs that this Ministry has “no statutory authority.”

The point is that the Department of Homeland security obtains NO CONSTITUTIONAL OR MORAL AUTHORITY – PERIOD.

OR MORAL AUTHORITY – PERIOD.

How You Can Combat the Rising Cost of Food
Nomi Prins  | May 11, 2022  | Inside Wall Street

Yesterday, I wrote to you about the link between the cost of the food we eat and the energy we use to make it. The two prices rise and fall in tandem.

And unfortunately, this morning’s U.S. inflation readings show they’re both still rising… though the good news is that they’re not rising by as much as last month.

Energy prices in the U.S. are up 30.3% over the last year. The World Bank expects energy prices to soar up to 50% higher this year.

And food prices are set to rise as a result. The cost of the food we eat at home has already gone up by 10.8% in the last 12 months. And the World Bank says food prices will soar by more than 20% this year.

Today, I want to tell you about another dark cloud that’s hanging over your dinner table… one that will push food prices even higher.

But don’t worry… As usual, I’ll show you a way to counter it, too…

The Museum of Failure Celebrates Flops and Fiascoes
By: Dave Roos  |  Feb 18, 2022

Some of the biggest, richest and smartest companies in the world have a long track record of spectacular fails.

Remember Google Glass? Time named the augmented-reality eyewear one of the "best inventions" of 2012, but the public strongly disagreed and decried its weirdo wearers as "glassholes." Apple, arguably the most successful technology company in the world, was also the creator of the doomed Newton, a clunky touchscreen PDA from the late 1990s, and a $600 gaming console called Pippin that absolutely no one bought.

It's easy (and fun) to laugh at the misfortunes of billionaires, but it's also instructive, says Samuel West, Ph.D., an organizational psychologist and the founder/curator of the Museum of Failure, a touring collection of product flops and fiascoes.

"We need to accept failure if we want progress and innovation," says West. "You can't have innovation or progress without taking meaningful risks, and as soon as you try to be innovative, there's going to be failure. There's no way around it."

Samuel West, Trump the game
Samuel West, curator of the Museum of Failure, stands next to "Trump: the Game" in Helsingborg, Sweden, Jan. 2, 2019. Released in 1989, and again in 2004, the board game sold poorly both times.

For every iPhone, Oculus and Netflix, the Museum of Failure reminds us there's an Amazon Fire Phone, Nintendo Virtual Boy and Blockbuster. You can't hit a home run without taking a swing, and it's OK if some of those swings are full-blown whiffs.

When West launched the first Museum of Failure exhibit in Sweden in 2017, he wanted to show corporations and organizations that failure itself isn't bad. (He'd noticed companies were averse to taking the kind of risks that can lead to very successful innovations – though sometimes to bombs, as well.) The only real failure, he notes, is failing to learn from your mistakes and adapt, a popular engineering concept known as "failing forward." But what surprised West was how much the general public embraced the museum's message.

"People felt liberated," says West. "They'd see all of these big bad multinationals with all of their resources and knowledge and realize, 'If they can [foul] up, so can I!'"

Be Grateful You Never Bought These Gadgets
Twitterpeek
No one wanted to buy a device to access Twitter when you could do so for free from your smartphone.

While you've at least heard of LaserDiscs (think giant DVDs from the 80s) or received a Barnes & Noble Nook as a misguided birthday gift, the Museum of Failure has dug up some true technological turkeys that should never have existed.

Take the Twitter Peek. This was a $200 device released in 2009 that did one thing: access Twitter. You might be asking, wasn't there already a Twitter app for smartphones in 2009? Yup. And wasn't it free? Yup. So why would anyone pay for a second handheld device just to read and send tweets? As Gizmodo said in its review, the Twitter Peek "is so dumb it makes my brain hurt."

Google TV was ahead of its time. Back in 2010, the search giant knew that we'd be streaming YouTube and movies on the big screen, but Google TV's execution was clunky and the technology wasn't ready for prime time. Exhibit A is the Sony Google TV Remote, which included a staggering number of buttons and keys — 88 to be exact.

Food and Beverage Fails
The 1985 release of New Coke was one of the most famous marketing disasters in recorded history. Even The Coca-Cola Co. admits that it was foolheaded to mess with a 99-year-old formula for its flagship soda, even if hundreds of thousands of taste-testers said they preferred the new flavor. The product only lasted a few months before Coca-Cola bowed to public outcry and reintroduced the "Classic" taste.

Crystal Pepsi and New Coke -- two colossal failures from two colossal soft drink brands.

But let's not forget about some other high-profile food-and-beverage blunders. Remember Crystal Pepsi? Coke's rival tried to capitalize on the "clear and natural" craze of the 90s with a clear cola. Why did it flop? "It would have been nice if I'd made sure the product tasted good," said former Pepsi COO David Novak in a 2007 interview with Fast Company.

Another food fad from the 90s was olestra, the magic ingredient in fat-free, low-calorie versions of addictive snack foods like Pringles, Lay's, Ruffles and Doritos. Proctor and Gamble spent decades and hundreds of millions of dollars developing an artificial fat that tasted just like the real thing, but wasn't absorbed by the digestive tract. Unfortunately, the science of olestra backfired (literally), leading to unpleasant side effects ranging from painful gas to urgent diarrhea.

"I never get tired of standing onstage at posh corporate events in front of top executives and managers and getting to say the words, 'anal leakage,'" says West.

The Borderline Between Success and Disaster
West might giggle at fumbles like Google Glass and Google Wave (an early and overly complicated version of Slack), but he has nothing but respect for what he calls Google's "evolutionary approach to innovation," basically investing tons of resources into hundreds of new ideas and seeing what sticks.

In evolution, only the beneficial mutations are passed on, and so it is with innovation. The bad ideas either go extinct or are folded back into the DNA for a new and improved version. If you want a lesson in "failing forward," check out The Google Graveyard, a comprehensive list of every single Google product and service that has been killed since 2001, all 264 of them.

So, before you let your own dreams get derailed by a minor setback or a major flop, consider this quote by Alberto Alessi, an award-winning product designer and a favorite of West's: "Revel in your glorious failures. Dance on the borderline between success and disaster. Because that's where your next big breakthrough will come from."

Now That's Cool

"The most exciting item is the NEW COKE fiasco..."

New Coke / Coke II
1985-2004

The rivalry between Coca-Cola and Pepsi escalated in 1975 with »The Pepsi Challenge,« where consumers in blind taste tests preferred Pepsi over Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola responded by doing extensive market research that confirmed that consumers preferred a sweeter version of the original recipe. Coca-Cola changed its classic recipe in 1985 and launched what was called New Coke. Coca-Cola consumers were furious that the recipe had been changed. The original formula was rapidly re-introduced and rebranded as Coca- Cola Classic. There are many conspiracy theories about this. One is that Coca-Cola could not possibly have been so stupid and that really the whole ordeal was a sneaky way for the company to replace cane sugar with cheaper sweeteners. Or that it was a very advanced marketing ploy.

"I got another 'Disaster Drink' for ya..."

Zima (drink)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Zima Clearmalt is a clear, lightly carbonated alcoholic beverage made and distributed by the Coors Brewing Company. Introduced in 1993, it was marketed as an alternative to beer, an example of what is now often referred to as a cooler, with 4.7–5.4% alcohol by volume.[1] Its production in the United States ceased in October 2008, but it was still marketed in Japan[2] until 2021.[3] On June 2, 2017, MillerCoors announced a limited release of Zima for the U.S. market. It was sold again in the U.S. in summer 2017 and summer 2018, and did not return in 2019.

In describing "The Long, Slow, Torturous Death of Zima", writer Brendan Koerner cited Zima's perceived reputation as a "girly-man" beverage and its persistent parodying by late-night TV host David Letterman.[4] The Chicago Tribune reported that distributors were asked to stock "caffeinated alcoholic beverage Sparks on retail store shelves to make up for Zima’s absence".[7]

San Diego County Passes Ordinance That Redefines ‘Women’
May 12, 2022

Dozens of opponents denounced a San Diego County ordinance they say redefines the meaning of the word “women” and puts women’s rights and safety in jeopardy at a Board of Supervisors meeting on May 10, before the board passed the ordinance by a 3-2 vote.

“No amount of hormones or surgery will turn a man into a woman,” opponent Erin Friday told the board. “Permitting male-bodied people to enter into single-sex spaces, take women’s positions on podiums, [and] take their positions in sports teams is the essence of discrimination.”

Love seats were originally designed to fit women’s fat asses dresses, not couples.

The two-seater upholstered benches we associate with cozy couples were initially crafted with another duo in mind: a woman and her dress. Fashionable attire in 18th-century Europe had reached voluminous proportions — panniers (a type of hooped undergarment) were all the rage, creating a wide-hipped silhouette that occasionally required wearers to pass through doors sideways.

Not all women wore such full skirts; some historians believe the average woman of modest means owned a mere four dresses with narrower profiles meant for everyday work. But upper-class women with funds to spare on trending styles adopted billowing silhouettes that often caused an exhausting situation: the inability to sit down comfortably (or at all).

Ever astute, furniture makers of the period caught on to the need for upsized seats that would allow women with such large gowns a moment of respite during social calls.

While most famed for his surrealist paintings, Salvador Dalí dabbled in interior design, constructing lamps, chairs, and tables. His best-known upholstered work is a red, lip-shaped couch crafted in 1938 that takes its iconic shape from actress Mae West’s pout.

As the 1800s rolled around, so did new dress trends. Women began shedding heavy layers of hoops and skirts for a slimmed-down silhouette that suddenly made small settees spacious.

The mid-sized seats could now fit a conversation companion; some S-shaped versions were called the “gossip chair.” But when sweethearts began sitting side-by-side, the bench seats were renamed “love seats,” indicative of how courting couples could sit together for a (relatively) private conversation in public. The seat’s new use rocketed it to popularity, with some featuring frames that physically divided young paramours. While the small sofas no longer act as upholstered chaperones, love seats are just as popular today — but mostly because they fit well in small homes and apartments.

Starving American Babies Disguise Selves As Ukrainian Soldiers In Hopes Of Getting $40 Billion In Federal Aid
May 11th, 2022 - BabylonBee.com

KYIV—This Wednesday, reports poured in that thousands of babies have been smuggling themselves into Ukraine dressed as Ukrainian soldiers. The refugee infants say they are seeking leftovers from the federal aid Biden has sent to the war-torn country.

“Waah waah waaaaah!” Baby translators at the border were able to render one newborn’s helpless wails into English for reporters. “This baby says he's a battle-hardened Ukrainian commando and he wants some formula.”

Other babies at the border concurred, with the oldest baby speaking for the group through a baby translator. “We trust our leaders to prioritize aid distribution well, as they did with billions to promote worldwide gender equity, billions in weapons as a going-away present for the Taliban in Afghanistan, or this breathtaking act of generosity amid America’s most severe recession in years.”

The baby spokesperson admitted that the choice to leave America was difficult, but that they knew it was the right choice. “It was hard to leave our families, but when Biden made it clear that Ukraine was the place to go for help, we didn’t ask questions!"

At publishing time, Biden celebrated that U.S. families now rid of burdensome babies could afford to contribute more in taxes to repay trillions for “Build Back Better” infrastructure spending. When asked about helping babies directly, he said “Best I can do is federal funding for abortion.”

Johnny Depp Installs Bird Spikes
To Prevent Amber Heard
From Pooping On Bed

May 11th, 2022

LOS ANGELES, CA—At the suggestion of his agent, his team of attorneys, and his plumber, Johnny Depp had bird spikes installed on his bed to prevent Amber Heard from pooping in it.

"I tried a scarecrow but she just started making out with it," said the movie star best known for his role in an inordinately public trial involving Amber Heard going "number two" on his duvet. "I then tried using live owls but she just started making out with them. Hopefully, these bird spikes will do the trick."

Sources confirm that after seeing the bird spikes, Amber Heard, made famous for her role in leaving droppings on Johnny Depp's bed, screeched in dissent, flew around the bedroom's massive chandelier a few times, then soared out the window in search of her lawyers.

After his first restful night of sleep in years, Johnny Depp reportedly awoke the next morning to discover poop in his slippers. His team of attorneys has recommended he install razor wire on all footwear to prevent any further vindictive defecation.

Following the public trial, the jury found both movie stars guilty of inflicting incalculable psychological damage on the American people.

Biden’s ‘Kill Switch’ For Every Car
Threatens Our Freedom Of Movement

MAY 11, 2022

The federal gov’t and silicon valley are looking to clamp down on your freedom of movement. Your ability to move about as you please does not fit with their goals for the future of our world. Automotive-related freedoms, including access to fuel, allow us to be free to move without the permission of silicon valley and the federal government.

Automotive freedoms are not only hobby related; they are essential to preventing yet another step along the road to serfdom at the hands of woke corporations and federal bureaucrats.

Biden recently signed into law a requirement that all vehicles produced after 2026 be fitted with a remote kill switch. Electric vehicles are already equipped with this capability via internet-connected “superchargers.” These corporations can sell you a product for tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars, then prevent you from using them.

Worse yet, if the law is not challenged or repealed, these kill switches will have a “back door” that allows government agencies to shut your vehicle off remotely as well.

With conservatives slowly waking up to the reality that corporate managers are not on our side, this should be among our top concerns. Internal combustion vehicles, so far, are free of the sorts of nanny state controls that are standard on electric vehicles, so preserving our access to gasoline and diesel fuel is an absolute necessity

Right to repair is also an important issue. It is not, as some techno-authoritarians claim, a simple matter for tinkerers. Rather, it is a critical component of our ability to maintain freedom of movement. Right to repair ensures that we are able to hire independent professionals to repair our vehicles and other products rather than being forced to pay astronomical prices to manufacturers.

Now that the environmental superiority of electric vehicles is being called into question, the real agenda behind climate hysteria is clear: climate change fear mongers want us poorer and unable to travel and commute as we see fit. As the Biden administration’s intentional policy of high gas prices hits the average American in the pocket book, it’s important to note that the cost of EV batteries is also rising.

Subsidized demand for these batteries has led to a massive increase in the prices of conflict minerals, such as lithium and cobalt, that make up these batteries.

There is no evidence that the actual cost of electric vehicles will be dramatically lower than those of internal combustion vehicles. Currently the average price of an electric vehicle is $56,000. What does this say about your ability to travel freely in the coming years if the federal government effectively bans our use of internal combustion vehicles?

Further, the left is turning a blind eye to the horrifying human rights record associated with cobalt and lithium mining. Child slavery, extremely poor working conditions, and poisoned rivers are just a few of the problems that plague the extraction of these minerals.

One could reasonably ask the Biden administration why the American public is being forced to subsidize the horrifying human rights record associated with the mining of these resources.

Though the near-magical power of innovation is an article of faith for many, technological change does not always benefit the average person. There is nothing inevitable about these so-called innovations or the politically-driven subsidies that enable them. There is nothing inevitable about the burdens that this technological change will put on the average person.

We need only have the courage of our convictions, combined with the backing of knowledgeable groups like the SEMA Action Network, to ensure that we are not forced to subsidize real environmental hazards, human rights abuses, and the restriction of our own freedom of movement.

Biden Gives Us
Gas Pains

The administration's anti-energy zealotry appears
to have no limits.

Is Joe Biden a Republican plant? Seriously. Is he some behind-the-back triple-bank-shot ingeniously foisted upon the American people in order to bring the nation to its knees and then bring Donald Trump and his "ultra-MAGA agenda" back to the White House amid pomp and palm fronds?

Well, okay, not seriously. But we ask because everything "Mr. 81 Million Votes" does seems to Make America Worse, seems to Put America Last, and seems to cause the American people to yearn for those awful ultra-MAGA days — you know, those days in the not-too-distant past when we were energy independent and the price at the pump was $2.39 a gallon. Or less. These days, you're paying somewhere around $4.40 a gallon, which, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, is yet another all-time record.

It's as if the guy's on a nationwide tour, slapping "I DID THAT" stickers like so much Flex Tape on every gas pump in America.

Joe Brandon has nothing, though, if not an impeccable sense of timing. Yesterday, for example, on the very day that gas prices hit the aforementioned record high (before being broken again today), his administration canceled one of the most high-profile oil and gas lease sales pending before the Department of the Interior.

As Fox Business reports: "The DOI halted the potential to drill for oil in over 1 million acres in Alaska's Cook Inlet, along with two lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. The move comes as Biden has taken a few actions to combat high gas prices, despite his administration's generally hostile approach to the oil industry."

What the heck?

Recall that Scranton Joe had hardly leaned back and put his feet upon the Resolute Desk when he signed an executive order suspending new oil and gas leases on federal lands. He finally resumed the new leasing last month due to court challenges against his ban, but his green legal team is appealing the ruling that forced his hand. After all, this is the guy who canceled the Keystone XL pipeline on his very first day in office.

There's a word for behavior like this: zealotry. And another, especially when the nation teeters on the brink of a recession: imbecility.

And the excuse from the eco-theologians is always the same. As our Nate Jackson pointed out recently: "Democrats love to dismiss drilling or pipelines as solutions to today's high gas prices because it'll take so long to get oil to the gas pump.

But what they've done is, for decades, hamper the production process and then point to that slow process as 'proof' that we can't drill our way out of the current mess. Donald Trump proved just the opposite — unleashing American energy production could yield incredible results within a few months."

As for the Biden administration's claim that there's an abundance of leases out there that aren't being used by the oil and gas industry, it's rubbish. Industry experts note that these leases take years to explore, to develop, and to produce on. The truth is that Team Brandon is hell-bent on killing American energy production. And, sadly, it's succeeding.

Is a "California Summer" in our future? City Journal's Steve Malanga thinks so:

Soaring gasoline and electricity prices may turn out to be only part of Americans' energy woes this summer. In recent months, a host of power suppliers have issued warnings that millions of residents could endure rolling blackouts because of the growing inability of America's evolving energy infrastructure to meet power needs.

From western states like Utah, Colorado, and California to midwestern states like Illinois, energy providers have cautioned that rising prices, shortages due to the closure of some coal and nuclear plants, and the unreliability of renewables like wind and solar have reduced energy surpluses. That's left some places with little margin for error during peak usage times in mid-summer — potentially prompting the kind of blackouts California saw last year.

Joe Biden did that. And just think: 15 miserable months down, and only 33 to go.

🤔I'm not sure if I find it amusing or concerning that we have people in this community that do not live here full time, but they sure think they know what's going on.😉 They sure think they have all the answers. They are apparently experts at everything.
And I'm sorry but somebody's got to say it, when it comes to these vacation rentals versus full-time rentals these handful of people are making matters worse and should probably learn to stay in their own lane. In all fairness I'm not going to your community trying to call the shots, so what the hell makes you think you have a right to come here and try to call all the shots?

We have enough problems up here dealing with a dishonest city council person who is as toxic as they come. There's honestly no need or desire for all these part-time genius to start thinking they should be making the calls.😡 All you full-time residents and business owners better stop fighting amongst yourselves and drinking the Kool-Aid, and come together with a quickness before you end up turning your future,or lack there of, over to part-time self-proclaimed geniuses.

Most likely a common california scorpion. Bark scorpions more towards Arizona and baja. Pretty rare to even cross paths with one. You will be fine. Just check your shoes before putting em on

Why The Coconut Crab Is The Crustacean Of Your Worst Nightmares

Also known as the robber crab and terrestrial hermit crab, the Indo-Pacific coconut crab reigns supreme as the largest arthropod on Earth.
“Monstrous.” That was the only word Charles Darwin could find to describe the coconut crab when he first saw one for himself.

Of course, anyone who’s ever seen this animal can tell right away that it’s no ordinary crustacean. As the largest land crab in the world, the coconut crab’s size alone is intimidating. It weighs up to nine pounds, stretches three feet long, and can carry more than six times its own body weight.

Economists at Federal Reserve bank debunk popular Dem narrative about record-high gas prices
May 13, 2022

Economists at the Federal Reserve of Dallas published analysis this week debunking a popular claim that Democrats make against oil companies.

What do Democrats claim?
As gas prices reached new record highs this week, the popular Democratic talking point — that oil and gas companies are profiteering — was recycled into the national conversation.

The New Yorker published an essay titled, "As Gas Prices Reach New Highs, Oil Companies Are Profiteering." Contained in the publication are quotations from various Democrats, including President Joe Biden, that accuse oil companies of not spending the resources necessary to beef up production of oil and gas because they care more about their profit margins.

Next week, the House is even voting on legislation promoted by Democrats to combat the oil industry's alleged exploitation of consumers.

But what do the economists say?
Garrett Golding and Lutz Kilian, senior economic analysts at the Federal Reserve of Dallas, explained that profiteering and price gouging are not contributing to the staggering price of gas.

Two facts in particular disprove this myth. Golding and Kilian explained:

Gas station operators set prices: "Gas station operators set retail prices based on their expected acquisition cost for the next delivery of fuel from the local distributor, federal and state tax rates, and a markup that covers operating expenses, such as rent, delivery charges and credit card fees."

Nearly every gas station is owned by a company that does not produce oil: "Since only 1 percent of service stations in the U.S. are owned by companies that also produce oil, U.S. oil producers are in no position to control retail gasoline prices."
Meanwhile, they explained that in March 2022, when the average price of gasoline was $4.22 per gallon, 59% of the cost was directly related to the price of the oil, while 18% of the cost was refining the oil, 12% of the cost was distribution and marketing, and the remaining 12% was the cost of taxes.

The economists also addressed asymmetric nature of gas price changes.

[T]he asymmetry of the response of retail gasoline prices need not be evidence of price gouging. One potential explanation is that station operators are recapturing margins lost during the upswing, when gas stations were initially slow to increase pump prices. The reluctance to lower retail prices also likely reflects concerns that oil prices—and, hence, wholesale gasoline prices—may quickly rebound, eating into station profit margins.

Another possible reason for this asymmetry is consumers’ tendency to more intensively search for lower pump prices as gasoline prices rise than when they decline. This diminished search effort provides further pricing power to gas stations, causing prices to fall more slowly than they rose. This has prompted researchers to liken the response of gasoline prices to higher oil prices to a rocket—and the response to lower oil prices to a feather.

Gas prices hit another record high on Friday, according to AAA, when the national average of gas reached $4.43 per gallon.

"Cause there’s a lot of f***ing crazy people that wind up being teachers."
Joe Rogan tears apart people who say the term 'groomer' is offensive: 'Here’s what's more important — not have people groom your f***ing kids!'
May 13, 2022

Joe Rogan blasted people who find the term "groomer" offensive. The prolific podcaster also tore apart employees who expect to get paid for mental health days.

During the Wednesday episode of "The Joe Rogan Experience" podcast with guest Gad Saad, Rogan discussed educators indoctrinating children. The conversation stemmed from reference to Florida's Parental Rights in Education legislation that prohibits school staff from talking to children about sexual orientation or gender identity in grades kindergarten through third.

Rogan declared that there is a major difference between education and indoctrination by educators. Rogan exclaimed, "And if you want to tell me that they’re the same thing, I say, 'F*** you!' Cause they’re not!"

He added, "Cause there’s a lot of f***ing crazy people that wind up being teachers."

Rogan noted that a lot of people don't like the term "groomer" and questioned their motives for being offended by the word.

He said, "Do you not like it because you don’t want children to be groomed, or do you not like it cause it’s a pejorative that’s used against the left? Which I think is more likely."

Don't miss out on content from Dave Rubin free of big tech censorship. Listen to The Rubin Report now.
"Here’s what's more important — not have people groom your f***ing kids," Rogan stressed. "That’s what’s more important than you getting uncomfortable with this word because it’s used by people on the right."

The Spotify star said that he knows an "intelligent person" who said that the word "groomer" should be blocked on social media.

Instead of censoring the word, Rogan lashed out with his straightforward solution, "No! No, there should be no groomers! How about that!"

He said educators grooming children is a "real f***ing problem."

He asked, "And how many of those people are doing it under the guise of 'I'm an LGBTQ educator'?"

The stand-up comedian pointed out that there are teachers being arrested for sexually abusing students "every couple days."

Saad – an author and professor of marketing at Concordia University – chimed in, "I'm keeping a tally of how much hate mail you're going to be getting."

Rogan snapped back, "Well, good luck. I don’t read it."

"There's people who are good people in all walks of life," Rogan stated. "Trans people, gay people, straight people, bisexual, whatever the f*** you are. There's good people in all walks of life. There's also pieces of s**t that will use those labels in order to get closer to groups of people and indoctrinate them. Indoctrinate them for their own sexual pleasure. That's real."

Saad joked, "So you don’t like kindergarten teachers talking about gender identity?"

Rogan ranted, "I think, like, that's why that whole, what they were calling the 'Don't Say Gay' bill in Florida was so infuriating."

"You should be really good to be able to — really good at what you do if you wanna talk to a f***ing 7-year-old about gender identity and sex," Rogan said. "I've seen some of these people with lip rings and f***ing blue hair. They clearly are ideologically bound."

Joe Rogan: "Not All Teacher Are Groomers, but a Lot of Groomers Are Teachers"
During the same episode, Rogan also slammed people who call out of work with the excuse of taking a "mental health day." Rogan had spoken to a friend who owns a business with multiple employees.

"She was saying that some of her employees are saying, 'I need a mental health day today,'" Rogan explained. "She's like, 'You're not sick. Get the f*** to work! You want to get paid for this mental health day? Show the f*** up!'"

"We're not talking about your parents just died in a car accident," he continued. "No, you just have a high level of anxiety today."

Rogan parodied a person calling out with a mental health day excuse, "You know it's just Roe v. Wade thing. I saw it in the news, I need a mental health day."

Rogan roared, "F*** you, show up at work. Show up at work and work hard."

‘Cake genders’ and Calvin Klein ad top this week’s liberal lunacy
May 13, 2022

Every time we think we’ve seen the limits of liberal lunacy, the wildly popular Libs of TikTok account on Twitter proves us wrong, and this week’s selection of a woke teacher discussing “dead names,” an explanation of “cake genders” — yes, you read that right — and a Mother’s Day ad from Calvin Klein has been no exception.

In the first example, Libs of TikTok shared a video from a teacher who claims three of her students are transgender.

The emotional teacher states, “this year alone, I have three transgender students, who — the reason why I’m getting emotional — is because if I contact home or anyone, um, outside of my classroom about these students, I have to use their dead name and their, um, assigned-at-birth pronouns and stuff, because it’s not safe for them to be out or their parents have refused to accept them.”

“And the reason they told me–” the teacher continues, “like, for some of them, the only reason why they’re out in my classroom, they’re not even out in other classrooms, is because they saw my ‘they/them’ mug and my ‘they/them’ pens, and so it’s really emotional.”

Twitter was quick to respond:

“How many bad things have happened to kids that start with an adult authority figure saying, ‘Don’t tell your mom and dad?'” asked one user. “Very dangerous thing to allow.”

“Something people need to understand is that there’s a difference between a kid confiding to a teacher and saying, ‘Please don’t tell my parents!’ and a teacher saying, ‘Don’t tell your parents about what we’re doing,'” noted another user.

“In all years, K-12, I never knew what sexual orientation or sexual preference was of my teachers. And I didn’t care,” a third user stated. “Looking back, if they did tell me, I still wouldn’t care.”

“Why can’t they focus on teaching?” the user asked. “No one care about their pronouns or who they sleep with.”

But with all the genders now available to our impressionable youth, it’s actually surprising that woke teachers have time to teach anything else.

Take, for example, “cake gender.”

Yes, it’s apparently a thing, and it falls under the umbrella of the “xenogender” label.

Yup, that’s a thing, too.

“Xenogender,” explains this TikTok-er, is, “a gender that can not typically be described with terms such as ‘masculinity,’ ‘femininity,’ ‘neutrality,’ ‘androgyny’ — things like that.”

“It’s more of not how you relate to a particular gendered experience,” the poster continues, “but more of how you relate to things.”

Like cakes.

“For example,” she says, “cake gender! I know a few people who personally use this. It’s typically described as them feeling light and fluffy or sweet and warm.”

Those with many “layers” or “flavors” to their gender also fall under the “cake gender” description.

The mocking that ensued was merciless.

And if you think “cake gender” is nuts, check out Calvin Klein’s Mother’s Day ad.

Yes, the guys who gave you “heroin chic” in the 90s decided to publish a pregnant person, complete with a beard, essentially daring conservatives not to scream about science.

The ad campaign featured Roberto Bete, a pregnant trans man, and Bete’s partner, a transgender woman, Rebel News reported.

“Just for my own personal sanity…” tweeted Pardes Seleh. “Can someone explain to me whether the people supporting this campaign believe this is actually a pregnant dude, or if they’re just pretending for the game but they secretly know that 1 + 1 = 2 and also dudes can’t get pregnant?”
