Biden Shuts Down Travel From South Africa Because of New COVID-19 Variant While Millions of Illegals Continue to Pour Into our Country

Democrats are still playing the optics game.

Biden recently released 50 million barrels of oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve during a non-emergency so that he will look like he is doing something about the high gasoline prices.

This move will do nothing, only adding less than three days worth of oil we can access and not even being released all at once. 32 million of the 50 million barrels will be released in the “next few months.”

Wow. Some emergency.

It’s a political emergency. It’s smoke and mirrors. It’s a fraud. It’s the democrat party.

And now President Disaster is shutting down travel from South Africa due to the new Omicron variant is being reported.

Top 8 Reasons You Absolutely DON'T Need A Gun

Are you thinking about buying a gun? Ew. What's wrong with you? Gross! Just... ew. Guns are very problematic, and so are the people who use them. You don't need one. Here's why.

#1) You can always count on the police to protect you: That's just a fact. Police are proven 100% effective at protecting innocent people!

#2) There's no evidence to suggest the government would ever overstep and try to take away your rights: A government has literally never done this. Don't be so paranoid!

#3) Guns make journalists wet their pants: If you live near a journalist and he hears you own a gun, he may wet his pants. You don't want something like that on your conscience.

#4) Guns are NOT cool and awesome and fun to shoot and useful for protection: Just trust us on this. We're journalists.

#5) Criminals have guns and use them to do bad things: You don't want to be like a criminal, do you?

#6) Nobody's going to break into your house when there's plenty of free stuff to loot at Target: Relax. Seriously.

#7) Your much manlier neighbor already has a gun: You can just borrow his if you really need it!

#8) Gun handling is best left to the professionals: Like Alec Baldwin.

So do the world a favor and DON'T buy a gun. Don't visit an online store for a fantastic deal on a firearm. Just don't.

Rand Paul responds to Fauci’s arrogant, unbelievable statement
that he IS the science

With the scary new omicron variant laying the groundwork for a new and rapidly intensifying fear campaign, the networks trotted out Dr. Anthony Fauci on the Sunday morning shows as the nation will soon be subjected to another onslaught of panic and propaganda spearheaded by the smug career bureaucrat.

Despite Fauci’s constant flip-flopping and moving of the goalposts, he continues to be the nation’s face of COVID as President Joe Biden’s top medical adviser and, while he has taken some hits in terms of credibility, he remains the media’s go-to guy when it comes to dispensing the administration’s talking points.

The head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases appeared on CBS’s “Face The Nation” when during an interview with fawning host Margaret Brennan, he rejected criticism from Republican lawmakers including Sen. Rand Paul who has repeatedly grilled him during his appearances for testimony before the Senate by claiming that he is above reproach because anyone who dares to criticize him is attacking science.

Report: South African Doctor Who First Noticed
Omicron Variant Reels in Doomsayers, Reveals Symptoms Are
'Unusual but Mild'

As panic circles the globe over a new coronavirus variant first reported in South Africa, the doctor who first noticed the variant is asking for a dose of calm.

Dr. Angelique Coetzee said that the unusual infections she was seeing in her private practice in Pretoria earlier this month presented “unusual but mild” symptoms, according to the Telegraph.

Coetzee, chair of the South African Medical Association, said it was “premature” to say the virus was going to mushroom into a global health crisis, according to the Guardian. On Friday, the World Health Association dubbed the Omicron variant a variant of concern. President Joe Biden then slapped travel restrictions on multiple African countries.

“It’s all speculation at this stage. It may be it’s highly transmissible, but so far the cases we are seeing are extremely mild,” she said.

“Maybe two weeks from now I will have a different opinion, but this is what we are seeing. So are we seriously worried? No. We are concerned and we watch what’s happening. But for now we’re saying, ‘OK: there’s a whole hype out there. [We’re] not sure why.’”

Surprise, surprise, the "new variant" is here just in time for Christmas!
Fauci On If New COVID-19 Variant Is Already In US: ‘Anything Is Possible’

The White House’s top doctor, Anthony Fauci, said Friday the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 could already be in the United States.

Over the last few days, the Biden administration and national media have made much of the new variant.

Fauci made his remarks during an interview on CNN.

Here We Go Again: Another COVID Variant
More fear, more politics, and more government control.
Same as it ever was.

There's yet another COVID variant on the loose, serving if nothing else as a huge clickbait revenue generator for the media. The president has issued travel bans that he himself would have condemned as racist and xenophobic a few short months ago, and the World Health Organization deliberately avoided "offense" for the Chinese with its variant name. Is it 2021 or what?

Omicron. That's the name you're going to be hearing a lot from TV talkingheads in the coming days as they try their best to stoke a little more fear about the coronavirus based on a variant originating in southern Africa. "It seems to spread rapidly," President Joe Biden helpfully added. That doesn't make it any different, of course. COVID has spread fairly rapidly since it escaped that Wuhan lab two years ago.

Rapid spread is also not the same as serious and deadly. "There was no immediate indication whether the variant causes more severe disease," the Associated Press reports. "As with other variants, some infected people display no symptoms." The head of the South African Medical Association said, "The new Omicron variant of the Coronavirus results in mild disease, without prominent symptoms."

Nevertheless, Biden reiterated his usual pronouncement: The variant "should make clearer than ever why this pandemic will not end until we have global vaccinations." Yes, the vaccination rate is low in Africa, but, for example, infected travelers returning to Israel were all vaccinated.

It continues to seem that there's little rhyme or reason to COVID's spread or severity. Vaccinated or unvaccinated, masked or unmasked, people still catch it and sometimes die from it. Draconian lockdowns or business as usual, people still catch it. More Americans have died of (or with) COVID during Joe Biden's presidency than Donald Trump's, yet only the latter is blamed for killing people.

Speaking of contrasting two presidencies, when Trump issued travel bans, Biden condemned him as racist and xenophobic. It was easy to lob such mendacious charges from his basement in Delaware, but Biden became president only after so grossly politicizing the virus and now he's ... issuing travel bans. There are not yet any reported cases of the Omicron variant in the U.S., so Biden banned travel from eight African countries over the weekend, saying, "I've decided that we're going to be cautious." His deeply unpopular sidekick Kamala Harris, who likewise accused Trump of "un-American" travel bans "driven by hate," now insists Biden is just doing what "is necessary."

And speaking of phony charges of racism, we already mentioned the WHO was careful in naming Omicron so as not to offend the Chinese. That's because the WHO is working its way through the Greek alphabet with its variant names and skipped a couple of letters to get to Omicron. Those letters were Nu, which is understandable for the audible confusion with "new," and Xi. The latter, says the WHO, is "a common surname" and it was skipped to "avoid stigma."

The WHO didn't skip Mu, which is also a common surname — far common than Xi, in fact. So, is there perhaps someone prominent with the surname Xi? Oh, right. Chinese dictator Xi Jinping.

We don't wish to make more of this than is necessary, but we Xi what they did there. Puns aside, this reeks of being a political charade just like so much of the response to this accursed pandemic. China released this virus from a lab in Wuhan, and then lied about it in nearly every possible way, including practically commandeering the WHO to help promote the ChiCom party line. The WHO guidelines for names were put in place back in 2015, but name games "to avoid stigmatizing the region," as the WHO put it this time, seem to be little more than the Chinese puppets at the WHO showing deference to one particular Xi.

We might also suggest that the real reason the variant couldn't be named Xi is that Xi should already be the name of the original China Virus.

Time will tell whether Omicron is more or less dangerous than the original strain or any other variant. But a few things are a very real danger: more heavy-handed government, deadly lockdowns, and general panic. New York has already declared a state of emergency over a variant that isn't even here yet. And we'll bet that continued variants into 2022 will be just the excuse Democrats can exploit to demand more bulk-mail voting in the midterm elections.

"I am somebody who only cares about science and health," proclaimed Anthony Fauci. People like him are just trying to "save millions of lives." Therefore, he added, "it's painful and disturbing" when other people are busy creating "this completely outlandish politicization of it." Fauci, Biden, and the WHO all need a good look in the mirror.

How to Make Bannock, A Healthy and Delicious Survival Food

Why is it that so many survival foods come from a time long forgotten? Some of the most well-known survival foods are so old, it’s hard to even peg their origin. They are often so effective that people of different nations figured out similar foods along their way.

The reason for this is simple. Every good survival food must have five certain features…

1. Minimal Ingredients
Survival foods should have very few ingredients. The fewer things that go into it, the fewer things that can spoil (and usually, the easier it is to make). Also, you can replicate these foods more easily if there are fewer ingredients.

2. Long Shelf Life
Probably the most important part of all of these features is the shelf life. What good is a “survival food” if you only have a week to eat it? We are looking for things that can stand the test of time, outside of refrigeration.

3. Non-Perishable
Since we are so concerned with shelf life, it’s important that survival foods be nonperishable food items. In other words, things like fresh fruits, vegetables, or meats are not great options because of how quick they spoil. These foods would be called perishable.

Survival foods should be foods that have a great shelf life, and these are called nonperishable.

4. Calorie and/or Nutrient Dense
While survival foods don’t always have to be the most healthful foods in our pantry, we do want them to be dense. Some are nutrient dense, like pemmican, which packs the punch of meat and healthy fats. Others, like bannock, are going to pack a serious calorie punch. Our recipe will add other things like cherries and rosemary.

5. Edible
We have to be able to stomach the survival food, otherwise, what’s the point? If we cannot bring ourselves to eat it, there is really no point in having it on hand. Some foods, like hardtack, can be questionable when it comes to being edible. For those of you who have tried it, you know what I mean.

Federal Court Blocks Vaccine Mandate For Health Workers In 10 States

A federal court put a halt to the Biden administration’s vaccine mandate for health care workers in 10 states, the latest blow in the President’s effort to force Americans to get the COVID series of jabs.

The White House in early November announced a vaccine mandate that would run through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration – or OSHA – and would levy fines of up to $14,000 per violation for companies with more than 100 employees.

It was set to take effect on January 4th.

U.S. District Judge Matthew Schelp, however, decreed that the vaccine mandate exceeds the agency’s authority.

Federal Judge Blocks Biden Vaccine Mandate for Health Care Workers Nationwide

A federal judge in Louisiana issued a nationwide preliminary injunction Tuesday against President Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate for health care workers.

Judge Terry A. Doughty in the U.S. District Court Western District of Louisiana ruled in favor of a request from Republican Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry to block an emergency regulation issued Nov. 4 by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services that required the COVID shot for nearly every full-time employee, part-time employee, volunteer, and contractor working at a wide range of healthcare facilities receiving Medicaid or Medicaid funding.

Cruz Blasts Fauci’s ‘Beavis And Butt-Head Defense’: The ‘Most Dangerous Bureaucrat’ In U.S. History

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) tore into Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and the Chief Medical Advisor to the President, during a Fox News interview on Monday evening, saying that Fauci has done more damage to science than anyone.

“Dr. Fauci, I think is the most dangerous bureaucrat in the history of the country,” Cruz said. “You know, he talks, a moment ago you just played, about hurting science. I don’t think anyone has hurt science, has hurt the credibility of the CDC, has hurt the credibility of doctors more than Dr. Fauci because throughout this pandemic, he’s been dishonest. He’s been political. He’s been partisan. And and the American people know it.”

Cruz brought up Fauci’s remarks on Sunday where Fauci attacked Cruz after Cruz had previously called on the Department of Justice to investigate Fauci for allegedly lying to Congress.

“This weekend he did this long interview, where he gave the answer he said, ‘I represent science. I am science.’ I gotta admit, Sean, I was laughing. It’s like Louis the 14th, the Sun King in France, saying …, ‘I am the state,'” Cruz said. “It is this delusion of grandeur that you cannot criticize him.

And it was very striking, you know, in the course of that interview, he was asked about, I asked the Attorney General Merrick Garland, if he’s going to investigate and prosecute Dr. Fauci for lying to Congress, and Margaret Brennan asked him about that. And what did Fauci do? He didn’t discuss any of the substance. Instead, he just attacked and engage in ad hominem attacks.

He basically did the Beavis and Butt-Head defense. He just screamed liars at everything. But, you know, facts are stubborn things.”

:tello: "Dint I proclaim this concept last week? Yes I did."
"Knowing what it actually means ... I don't think this is actually something that is offensive. People getting offended by it seems a little ... stupid. ... It has nothing to do with offensive or race or anything like that."

Whoops: Students staunchly support renaming 'Black Friday' — and then they learn the term has absolutely nothing to do with race

Some students at the University of Florida supported changing the name of Black Friday when they believed that it might have some sort of negative connotation with regard to the black community. When they learned that race has nothing to do with the post-Thanksgiving shopping frenzy, they largely changed their minds.

What are the details?
Campus Reform reporter Ophelie Jacobson visited the Gainesville, Florida, college campus, where she surveyed students about their thoughts on the Black Friday moniker.

Citing a recent article from the Chicago Tribune, which published a reader-generated column of opinions claiming Black Friday discriminates against and profiles the black community, Jacobson said, "One of the sections claimed that Black Friday discriminates against or profiles black people, and that we should name the day to be 'Holiday Buying Day' or 'Spending Day.' What do you guys think of that?"

"Black Friday sounds offensive," one student told the reporter.

Another insisted, "I don't like the name Black Friday. I never really have, ever since I was small. Whenever I would go to the stores, everything would just be jam-packed, and I would see, like, workers kind of — it sounds wrong, but they would lean more toward the lighter skinned people. They would assist them."

Don't miss out on content from Dave Rubin free of big tech censorship. Listen to The Rubin Report now.
Another added, "I'm cool with changing it."

"I never saw it that way," another student admitted, "but I don't have that lived experience. So if enough people think that it should be that way, then I don't see a problem with it."

What happened then?
Jacobson then went on to tell the students what Black Friday actually means.

"What if I told you that the term Black Friday has nothing to do with race?" she said. "When stores are in the red, it's said that they're not making any profits. So a lot of stores say they're in the red before the day after Thanksgiving, and once Black Friday hits, they're in the black, meaning they're turning profits now, because of all the sales. Should we still change it?"

One student responded, "Knowing what it actually means ... I don't think this is actually something that is offensive. People getting offended by it seems a little ... stupid. ... It has nothing to do with offensive or race or anything like that."

"I wouldn't change now, knowing the origins of Black Friday," another admitted.

Another student added, "No. I think nobody should overanalyze it. If it’s not about skin color, then I don’t see that there’s a problem.”

"If you just want to rename it to spare the feelings, that's not helpful," another student insisted.

"Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy."

Ludwig van Beethoven

In a letter to German poet and statesman Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, German writer Bettina von Arnim quoted this line first spoken by her friend Ludwig von Beethoven, whose musical ability had by that point (the early 1800s) taken Europe by storm. In the view of the virtuoso, the unspeakable quality of music to uncover deep emotion and understanding surpasses that of any works by sages and philosophers. For Beethoven, to hear and be moved by a musical composition is to experience the highest intellectual state.

Exclusive: Airbnb hosts Xinjiang rentals on land owned by sanctioned group

Airbnb has more than a dozen homes available for rent in China's Xinjiang region on land owned by an organization sanctioned by the U.S. government for complicity in genocide and forced labor, an Axios investigation has found.

Why it matters: The listings expose Airbnb to regulatory risk under U.S. law. They also land yet another American tech company in the crossfire between the U.S. and China.

Fauci: Vaccinated Families 'Can Feel Good About Enjoying a Typical Thanksgiving, Christmas'

Nick Kangadis
November. 16. 2021

Sometimes when I think about how I should live my life, I wonder, 'What would Dr. Fauci do?' Of course, I'm kidding. I've listened to hours upon hours of President Joe Biden's Chinese coronavirus czar Dr. Anthony Fauci bloviate endlessly about one thing or another - my favorite being that if you criticize Fauci, you criticize science. But at no point in my life have I taken his advice, and I'm still here.

Remember how Fauci told everyone towards the end of 2020 how they should observe the holidays? Well, he's back at it - dictating to people whether it's okay or not for certain people to celebrate the holidays with their families.

During a discussion with the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC) on Monday, Fauci joined former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist (R-Md.) to talk about the progress being made currently during the COVID pandemic and how Americans should view their participation in the upcoming holiday season.

Fauci made the distinction of saying that "vaccinated" families can "feel good" about enjoying Thanksgiving and Christmas, even though we know vaccinated people can still catch and spread COVID.

"If you get vaccinated and your family's vaccinated, you can feel good about enjoying a typical Thanksgiving, Christmas with your family and close friends," Fauci told Frist.

The good doctor then "advised" everyone to continue to do everything he tells you in order to be able to "enjoy" the season with your family.

"Go the extra mile, be safe, wear a mask," Fauci said a few sentences later. "But when you’re with your family at home, goodness, enjoy it with your parents, your children, your grandparents. There’s no reason not to do that."

Oh, thank you, St. Fauci of Immunology! I'm sure vaccinated folks will be overjoyed that you gave them the thumbs up to spend the holidays with their loved ones. But, notice how he didn't even mention those who might be unvaccinated.

I'm not sure who this guy thinks he is, even though he loves himself to a ridiculous degree - as evidenced by his St. Fauci candles and the portrait of himself. But, why do people still listen to him? He has contradicted almost every statement of "fact," which he masquerades as "the science," since the pandemic began in the U.S. almost two years ago.

It’s Fall, Time to Start Gardening

For most people, fall means that that the holiday season is here. People are thinking about partying and having a good time, from dressing up on Halloween to getting drunk on New Year’s Eve. The good food we eat on Thanksgiving and Christmas goes well with the presents we love to give and receive.

But that’s not all that fall means. For those of us who are preppers, fall means getting ready to survive the winter. Our ancestors were brought in the harvest at this time, looking to see if they would have enough to see themselves through till the following year. A bad year could be disastrous, as chances were pretty high that they would starve, as they couldn’t get much food from nature in the wintertime.

That brings us to another important thing about fall, starting the following year’s gardening. No, I’m not talking about getting seed in the ground; I’m talking about planning and preparing for the following year’s planting. If we don’t start that in the fall, then when spring rolls around, we won’t be ready. Trust me on this one; I’ve had it happen way too many times.

As we sit here in the fall, it’s easy to think that you’ve got a lot of time before you need to think about spring planting; but that’s not true. Spring planting will be right around the corner by the time we make it through the holiday season. For those who live in hotter climates, as I do, spring planting can start as early as February, so that’s a tight corner.

How To WIN Every Gun ArgumentWith Gun-Grabbers

Picture this: You're stuck in an argument with a dumb gun-grabber, and he thinks he's winning.

Well, all you have to do to wipe that smug smile off his face is hit him with one of these 3 comebacks:

1. "Oh, really? How many guns do you own?"

It's a fact that most people who hate guns don't own any.

Some of them will lie to you and claim they have some guns, but if you ask them which specific models they own, they'll start to fall apart as you press them on the details.

Gun owners are very ignorant of firearms, so anyone with some gun knowledge can easily derail them.

2. "Define 'semi-automatic.'"

Most gun-grabbers don't understand that "semi-auto" means getting one round each time you pull the trigger.

You can win a lot of gun arguments by hitting them with technical questions like this.

The more they prove they know nothing about guns, the weaker their arguments become.

3. "That's impressive. How many hours of tactical training did you do last year?"

Most gun-grabbers have NO training, so asking them about their training will always show them how ignorant they are.

Some may lie, but you can destroy those lies by asking them to tell you which training organizations they used.

And if YOU have some tactical training that they don't, so much the better.

If you want to take these 3 simple tips farther, it helps to thoroughly understand your Second Amendment Rights.

Catholic Student Suspended From Football After Allegedly Insisting There Are Two Genders. Now He’s Suing The School District.
By  Hank Berrien

Nov 16, 2021   DailyWire.com

A New Hampshire high school boy who is a practicing Catholic was suspended from playing football for one game after an exchange off-campus in which he allegedly insisted there are only two genders. Now he and his mother are suing the school district.

“M.P. had an exchange with a progressive student, who is described as not being transgendered, on a school bus. During the conversation, M.P. relayed his belief informed by Catholic teaching that there are two genders, male and female. This exchange was followed by a conversation between the two students over a text messaging app,” NH Journal reported.

The brouhaha started, according to the lawsuit, after a student at Exeter High School claimed in class to be “non-binary” and wanted to be addressed as “they.” On the school bus, M.P was reportedly discussing the difficulty of using third-person pronouns in Spanish when referring to a ‘non-binary person.’ The lawsuit alleges that a female student overheard the conversation and commented, “There’s more than two genders.”

M.P. allegedly replied, ‘No there isn’t: there’s only two genders.” After M.P exited the bus, the female student texted him, the lawsuit claims, demanding, “Give me one valid reason why there’s only two genders.” The lawsuit states there was “a contentious exchange of texts on the issue.”

The lawsuit says the texts were given to the school administration, which “resulted in M.P.’s suspension for reportedly both failing to respect another student’s gender pronouns and for ‘inappropriate language’ used in his texts, such as ‘bozo’ and ‘stfu’,” The Daily Mail reported.

The lawsuit states that Exeter High School Assistant Principal Marcy Dovholuk and athletic director and varsity football coach Bill Ball pulled M.P. out of class. The lawsuit asserts, “Dovholuk and Ball stated that the texts showed that M.P. was ‘not respecting pronouns’ and that he needed to “respect how people identify.’”

“Ball told him he was going to suspend him from playing football for one week but then reduced the ban to one game after the student’s mother protested to him that he had done nothing wrong,” The Daily Mail added.

The lawsuit states M.P’s views on gender:

The student does not deny that he violated the Gender Nonconforming Students policy. .. He in fact denied, and will continue to deny, that any person can belong to a gender other than that of “male”or “female.” … The student will never refer to any individual person using plural pronouns such as “they,” using contrived pronouns such as “ze,” or with any similar terminology that reflects values which (the student) does not share. … Regardless of what defendants may think about these words, M.P. did not use profane or insulting language towards any person while in the school building, on a school bus, during school activities, or on school property in any of the events leading up to his athletic suspension and this case.

How To Start A Fire Without Matches

Fire has been a survival essential, whether for cooking, warmth, or signaling. What if you are trekking or on a wildlife trip and forgot to bring matches, or maybe your backpack gets lost? It needn’t be something dramatic – even wet conditions can render matches useless.

In case of a survival emergency where lighter or matches are unavailable to cook or warm yourself, here are survival hacks to try to start a fire without matchsticks.

Friction: The commonest way to create fire. Rub wood together using a plow or bow.

Sparks: A standard way to create sparks that will ignite the fire is by using materials like flint, rocks, or battery with dry wool.

Sun: If you have the right weather and material, the sun can be helpful to make fire by concentrating sunlight at a point to generate enough heat to make fire.

Chemicals: The least common method. However, you can carry selective chemicals that combust when mixed.

Travel whiplash: Omicron upends holiday plans

Just when it seemed safe to travel overseas again, along comes Omicron.

Why it matters: The emergence of the new coronavirus variant couldn't come at a worse time, just weeks before millions of people are expected to travel for the holidays to reunite with loved ones they've missed during the pandemic.

Absent detailed information, many countries are responding by slamming shut their borders in the hopes of keeping out the virus' latest strain.
Even if they're not traveling to countries where Omicron has been detected so far, travelers have to worry whether their destination could be next — and whether they'll be able to return home easily.
What's happening: Many airlines, travel agencies and tour operators are being inundated with calls from worried travelers, according to Paul Charles, founder of a U.K.-based global travel consultancy, The PC Agency.

"They're receiving a torrent of inquiries: Can I rebook? Can I get a refund? What do you think is going to happen?" he tells Axios.
"That’s what happens when you create uncertainty. You create a loss of confidence and consumers hunker down."
"Christmas bookings will obviously be weaker than we had expected prior to the omicron variant," Alex Irving, an analyst at Bernstein in London, told Time. "As you add barriers to travel such as the PCR tests and isolation requirements, all that does is changes the incentives."
Even domestic travelers in the U.S. are on edge for the holiday season, as cities like New York reinstate mask advisories.

Many say they'll pay extra for fully refundable tickets and trip insurance, just in case, or will drive to their destination instead.
Driving the news: At least 44 countries have imposed travel restrictions from several African countries following the discovery of the new variant.

Japan and Israel have gone even further, banning all foreign nationals from entering their countries.
President Biden told reporters Monday he doesn't expect further travel restrictions "at this point" after announcing bans on visitors from South Africa and seven other countries last Friday.
It's probably too late anyway. Confirmed cases have already appeared in a growing number of countries, including Canada.

Travel restrictions don't work if case loads are already high, several studies have concluded.

They "are effective primarily in countries with low numbers of COVID-19 cases, or that have strong travel links with countries experiencing high rates of infection,” according to one study published in the Lancet medical journal.
The authors from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine also concluded that "strict untargeted travel restrictions are probably unjustified in many countries."
Researchers at the Pandemic and Borders project reached a similar conclusion, according to a Washington Post piece authored by University of Honk Kong Professor Karen Grépin.
What they're saying: President Biden told reporters the purpose of the travel restrictions is "to give us time to get people to get protection. To be vaccinated and get the booster. That's the reason for it."

What to watch: Don't cancel your trips just yet, advises Charles of The PC Agency.

The newly enacted restrictions could be short-lived if scientists quickly determine that existing vaccines are also effective against Omicron.
"I'm confident governments will unravel the restrictions before Christmas," he said.

No editor's note or other explanation for the change was given by Forbes. While the original headline summarized Salzberg's argument, the new headline appears to slightly contradict what he wrote.

Forbes stealth-edits article explaining 'yes, the vaccine changes your DNA'

A Forbes article that takes aim at "anti-vaxxers" for claiming that the COVID-19 vaccine "changes your DNA" — arguing that technically it does and that's a good thing — had its headline changed without explanation to emphasize that the vaccines "don't alter your DNA."

In a column published Monday that was originally titled, "Yes, The Vaccine Changes Your DNA. A Tiny Bit. That’s A Good Thing," Steven Salzberg explains how a person's immune system slightly alters their DNA after taking any vaccine, in the same way the body responds to any infection, like the common cold. Salzberg is a computational biologist and computer scientist with Johns Hopkins University and co-founder of the influenza virus sequencing project.

However, sometime after publication, the article's headline was changed to, "Covid Vaccines Don’t Alter Your DNA – They Help Choose Cells To Strengthen Your Immune Response."

A Brief Guide to Leftist Destruction

To understand the modern world, perhaps the most important rule one needs to know is this: Everything the Left touches it ruins.

This first became clear to me years ago during my radio show. I was talking about the Left's war on the Boy Scouts (for not accepting announced gay people). It was becoming clear that this would ultimately lead to the decline of the Boy Scouts, which led me to ask: "Will the left replace the Boy Scouts with a left-wing Boy Scouts?"

Then I answered my own question: Of course not. Because the Left only destroys; it doesn't build anything (other than government).

In support of that observation, here is a list of many of the things the Left ruins and often destroys.

No. 1: Art.

The Left long ago conquered the art world. Consequently, since the 20th century, most modern art has been ugly, meaningless and nihilistic — the opposite of what Western art had always been.

No. 2: Music.

What the Left did to the eyes in art, it did to the ears in music. As a part-time conductor, I can say with some knowledge that since the invention of atonal music (an oxymoron if there ever was one), most contemporary classical music is also ugly, meaningless and uninspiring. The people who like such music are almost all music critics and, of course, music professors. Most lovers of classical music never listen to the stuff.

No. 3: Journalism.

Journalists were once highly respected. Unless a piece was listed as "opinion," people generally believed they were getting, to the best of a journalist's ability, as truthful a report as possible — "just the facts." Today, on virtually any controversial issue, they are getting opinion, not truth. The purpose of nearly every major newspaper and other "news" outlet is the same purpose Pravda had in the Soviet Union: to transmit the party line.

No. 4: Colleges and universities.

The Left has destroyed universities as places of learning devoted to seeking truth and therefore welcoming, even cultivating, diverse opinions. Virtually every left-wing idea was born at a university.

No. 5: High schools and elementary schools.

Most schools in America — private as much as public — teach children that America is systemically racist and that they are not born male or female, but at a later age will choose whether to be one or the other — or neither. And increasingly, American educational institutions deny objective truth exists, even in mathematics.

No. 6: Happiness.

You can meet happy and unhappy liberals and happy and unhappy conservatives, but you are unlikely to ever meet a happy leftist. The only question is whether the unhappy gravitate to leftism or whether leftism makes people unhappy. Both are probably true.

No. 7: The family.

People on the Left increasingly choose not to get married and not to have children — in other words, not to make families. And their welfare policies serve to disincentivize the creation of families.

No. 8: Women.

The rates of depression among young people, especially young women, are higher than ever recorded in American history. One reason is that for half a century, women have been told, as one famous feminist put it, "A woman without a man is like a fish without a bicycle." But the fact is that the vast majority of (heterosexual) women need a man to be fulfilled, just as the vast majority of (heterosexual) men need a woman to be fulfilled.

No. 9: Childhood.

One reason young people on the Left don't want children is that the Left doesn't particularly like children. The teachers unions' adamant refusal to open schools for over a year has opened many Americans' eyes to this fact. So has the war on children's innocence - like prematurely talking to them about sex and having schools introduce them to drag queens from the age of five.

No. 10: Black life.

Like the Democratic Party historically, the left is racist. And it is so in precisely the way the word was always used — the Left believes in black inferiority. That is why leftists advocate lowering standards for blacks. That is why they advocate policies that always result in more blacks dying at the hands of other blacks. That is why they believe the state must take care of blacks more than any other group. That is why left-wing policies, from the Great Society to today, have destroyed so much of black life, especially its family life — and they don't care.

No. 11: Black-white relations.

According to polls and according to just about every American who remembers life from about a decade ago, black-white relations were far superior then and both groups were optimistic about relations continuing to improve. The Left shattered that with its anti-white, "America is systemically racist" propaganda shouted from almost every major media and relentlessly pushed in almost every school and big business. The Left knows that when blacks and whites feel good about one another, the Left loses its appeal and loses elections.

No. 12: The military.

As the military gets more and more woke — recall the testimony of the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff testifying before Congress about the need to teach the military about white racism — soldier morale declines. Add to this the utterly gratuitous and cruel mandate that every member of the military get vaccinated or be discharged and you understand why military morale is in steep decline.

No. 13: Late-night television.

Americans who remember the titans of late-night comedy — Johnny Carson and Jay Leno — remember how their sole aim was to bring some smiles and laughter to Americans before they went to sleep. Few people had any inkling of the political views of either host. That is now history. The Left has destroyed late night comedy. It now consists of little more than angry rants against conservatives.

No. 14: Superman.

Superman was an iconic American hero. Thanks to the Left, he is no more. About a decade ago, Superman stood in front of the United Nations to announce he was renouncing his American citizenship to become a "citizen of the world." And the Left has now changed his motto from "Truth, Justice, and the American way" to "Truth, Justice, and a Better Tomorrow."

No. 15: Free speech.

Never before has freedom of speech been threatened as it is today. As has been true since the communist revolution in Russia, everywhere the Left has gained power — from Russia in 1917 to the university and social media today — it has suppressed free speech. There is no exception.

No. 16: Sports.

Until last year, sport was a great American unifier. It was one place Americans could go and, leaving politics behind, Left and Right, Democrat and Republican could root for the same team. No longer. The Left has ruined it by radically politicizing baseball, football and basketball.

The great American tragedy is just about every liberal knows the above is true, but nearly every one will still vote for the Left.

The Kyle Rittenhouse Case -- Send in The Clowns

During and after the trial of Kyle Rittenhouse, the white 18-year-old accused of murdering two white men and injuring another, one could hardly keep track of the insanity based on falsehoods recklessly peddled by media and politicians.

In Chicago, the Rev. Jesse Jackson marched in the front line of a group of protesters where some chanted, "When black lives are under attack, what do we do?"

Black lives under attack? Rittenhouse is white, as were the two men he shot dead and the man he injured.

In September 2020, presidential candidate Joe Biden posted a video that included a picture of Rittenhouse, slamming President Donald Trump for "refusing to disavow white supremacists." But the New York Post's Miranda Devine wrote: "The accusation has become holy writ, but there is zero evidence. The FBI scoured Kyle's phone and found nothing about white supremacy or militias, the court heard. All they saw were pro-police, 'Blue Lives Matter' posts from a kid who had been a police and fire department cadet, wanted to be a police officer or paramedic and once sat near the front of a Trump rally. That was enough for the media to brand him a white supremacist."

PolitiFact claimed that Rittenhouse was illegally in the possession of a firearm: "The Wisconsin Department of Justice honors concealed carry permits issued in Illinois. But Rittenhouse did not have a permit to begin with, and he was not legally old enough to carry a firearm in Wisconsin."

But The New York Times wrote: "The judge in Kyle Rittenhouse's homicide trial on Monday dismissed the misdemeanor gun possession charge the teenager faced after defense lawyers argued that he did not violate the state statute in question because of his age and the length of the barrel of his semiautomatic rifle. ... The statute says it applies to minors carrying a rifle or shotgun only if they are not in compliance with at least one additional statute (including) the prohibition of rifles with barrels less than 16 inches long.

"Mr. Rittenhouse was 17 at the time of the shootings. The judge threw out the charge after nobody in court disputed the length of the gun's barrel."

Rep. Karen Bass, D-Calif., said: "Here you have a 17-year-old boy who was driven by his mother across state lines with an automatic weapon — frankly, she should have been detained for child endangerment — to go to a protest."

But Fackcheck.org wrote: "The Smith & Wesson semiautomatic rifle that Rittenhouse used in the shootings was already in Wisconsin, according to court testimony and police interviews. ... Using money that Rittenhouse gave him, Dominick Black, a friend who also dated one of Rittenhouse's sisters, bought the gun at a hardware store in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, in May 2020. Black, who was 18 at the time, purchased the gun for Rittenhouse, who at age 17 was too young to legally buy it for himself. In court this month, Black and Rittenhouse said they agreed that Black would hold onto the rifle until Rittenhouse turned 18 in January 2021, and that it would be kept at Black's home in Kenosha."

NAACP CEO Derrick Johnson said, "It's hard to reconcile the verdict with the experience that many African Americans have faced over the several decades." But reportedly the jury was not all white. Chicago's WTTW reported: "It consisted of seven women and five men, all of them were white except one person of color." If so, does that mean the other 11 white jurors browbeat "the person of color" into finding Rittenhouse not guilty on all five counts?

One more note of madness. Consider this tweet posted before the verdict by Gregory McKelvey, vice chairman of the Oregon Democrats Black Caucus: "Employers, consider giving your Black employees a day or two off after the Rittenhouse verdict. Regardless of the outcome, it's going to be hard for Black people to work and it isn't fair to expect them to."

Why complain? This means I'm not required to write a column this week.

How to Lie About Guns, New York Times Style

December 1, 2021 By Frank Melloni

One of the easiest ways to lie and not get sued for libel is to simply do so through exclusion. The New York Times is famous for this and if you don’t know enough about guns they can make things sound pretty bad, just by leaving out a little bit of information. In the wake of the Kyle Rittenhouse Verdict we ought to brush up on the tactics of far-left media. To do so, we simply just need to look to the past. Back in March of 2021, I found an article so egregious that I decided to go ahead and fill in the blanks. I believe the resulting work should be saved and used to inform anybody who is arguing for more gun control without all of the facts. For reference the original article can be found here:

https://www.nytimes.com/2021/03/24/us/ruger-ar-556-boulder-shooting.html

You’ll see that the author is attempting to paint Ruger’s AR-15 pistol and the 5.56 round in a darker light than it deserves.

The article opens with the basic facts and uses that tired old phrases like “military-style semiautomatic rifle and pistol.” Of course, the author leaves out that they are “military-style” in appearance only. Camouflaging a Kia doesn’t make it an M1 Abrams tank. As the piece starts to “develop,” the author also goes on to write, “Statements from the police and the charging documents did not make it clear which of the weapons was used in the attack, but it appeared at least one is a semiautomatic derivative of the assault rifles that have long been used by the American military.”

For starters, holy long sentence Batman. I had to read it a few times to keep up with it all, leaving just the catchphrases like “assault rifles” and “American military” to stand out. However, if you read it a few times you pick up what is being said. The guns being referenced are derivatives as opposed to copies because they are semi-automatic, like a common pistol. This is unlike the military’s fully automatic M4 carbines. Only folks who know guns are going to know that and only a few are going to be that dedicated to pull all of that from this poorly structured sentence.

Later on, I found what is arguably the poorest display of journalism in the entire article. The author goes on to state, “According to a police affidavit, the suspect charged with 10 counts of murder, Ahmad Al Aliwi Alissa, bought a Ruger AR-556 semiautomatic weapon, essentially a shortened version of an AR-15 style rifle marketed as a pistol, six days before the killings took place. It is also unclear if that weapon was used in the shooting on Monday.”

Wait…if  it’s “unclear” that this gun was used at all, why does this article include this statement? Actually, why is there even an article entitled “What we know about the gun used in the Boulder shooting” in existence? The Times didn’t need 284 words to put this piece together, thanks to this statement I can do it with just one, “Nothing.”

About halfway through is where I found the most manipulative piece of information and this is where the author states “Both the AR-15 style rifle and the Ruger version fire the same small-caliber, high-velocity ammunition, which was first developed for battlefield use.” Sure, the 5.56 was built for the military… To replace the current, larger cartridge that was regarded as uncontrollable and too powerful for common battlefield use! I’ve had enough with media like this trying to make the 5.56 round out to be some sort of baby-killing monster. It’s one of the least-potent centerfire rifle rounds on the market, considered by most to be too small even for deer hunting. Is it more powerful than a pistol round? Sure, but almost any given rifle has more power than any given handgun.

As things begin to wrap up the author proceeds to attempt to make large-format pistols look like the “ideal” tool for mass shootings where she says “Based on their size, ‘AR pistols’ are much easier to conceal than a typical AR-15 carbine or rifle. According to the manufacturer’s website, the Ruger AR-556 pistol comes with either a 9.5-inch or 10.5 inch-long barrel, while a typical AR-15 has at least a 16-inch barrel.” Pretty convenient that she left out the fact that common pistols have barrels from 2 to 6 inches and are capable of the same rate of fire and in most cases, capacity. So although an AR Pistol is easier to conceal than a rifle or shotgun, it’s far less concealable than many other semi-automatic firearms.

As a New Yorker, I have been conditioned to read between the lines and sadly that’s where you are going to find the facts in dribble like this. It’s a shame that our publication doesn’t reach the same people who read the Times, because it would be nice to give the Times’s readership a complete and balanced idea of what that this firearm is—and more importantly what it isn’t. This, my friends, is why we must remain vigilant and never shy away from the conversation. We can only change an informed mind and that duty lies squarely at our feet.

7 Things You Didn't Know About the AR-15
by W. H. "Chip" Gross - Saturday, November 27, 2021

If you purchased a new rifle prior to 1963, it very likely was made of wood and steel—the materials rifles had been made of for centuries. But following that year, the shooting world was turned upside down by a new rifle made with an aluminum-alloy receiver and synthetic stock. Today known as the AR-15, or Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR), the shooting sports have never been the same.

  1. The beginnings of the AR-15 date back even further than 1963. Four years earlier, the ArmaLite Corporation introduced the first such prototype rifle for the U. S. military. But due to financial problems, ArmaLite sold the rifle’s design to Colt.

  2. After Colt tinkered with the concept, the rifle was adopted by the U.S. military and the M16 was born. Lightweight and capable of firing in semi-automatic, three-shot burst, or fully-automatic modes, the rifle quickly proved itself in the jungles of Viet Nam and other battlefields.

  3. The rifle was so successful and popular with GIs that a civilian, strictly semi-automatic version was soon produced, known as the Colt AR-15. Although “AR-15” remains a Colt registered trademark, the rifle today is produced by dozens of different firearms manufacturers around the world.

  4. Initially chambered for relatively small, high-velocity rounds—such as .223 caliber or 5.56mm—AR-15s today are easily adapted for firing numerous other rounds, as well. And for clarification, the “AR” part of the gun’s name stands for ArmaLite Rifle, not Assault Rifle or Automatic Rifle as some mistakenly believe. The “15” designation is simply the original model number of the gun. Again, all legal civilian versions of the AR-15 are semi-automatic.

  5. The rifle has become popular with civilian shooters for several reasons: it’s lightweight, has low recoil (making it comfortable for most women and kids to shoot), and is accurate even with open sights. It’s also easy to clean and maintain. In addition, the gun’s modular design and rail system allow for easy mounting of a dizzying array of after-market accessories: sights, grips, lighting systems, night-vision devices, laser sights, muzzle brakes/flash suppressors, sound suppressors, bipods, etc.

  6. A trend in recent years at the National Rifle and Pistol Matches (held annually at Camp Perry in Ohio) is the number of shooters firing AR-15 rifles. As a result, the number of women shooters participating in the various competitions has increased. “AR-15s are lighter, have less recoil, and are very easy guns to shoot accurately,” said Sue Mogle, a competitive shooter, mom of a youth shooter, and a registered nurse from Indiana. “You don’t have to be a big, strong, fast athlete to shoot well,” she said. “Shooting is really more mental discipline than physical, and a woman shooter can be equally as competitive as the guys by shooting an AR.” About 10 percent of the shooters at the National Rifle and Pistol Matches are female and that number is increasing, mainly because teen girls and young women are getting started earlier in the shooting sports—thanks to the AR-15.

  7. Like a 1911 handgun (so named because it was first introduced in the year 1911), the AR-15 is today a general style of rifle, not a specific model made by a specific manufacturer. That said, will the AR-15 stand the test of time as the 1911 has? Very likely, as its popularity shows no signs of waning, with both younger and older shooters alike. And if AR-15s were not already popular enough, recent attempts at implementing additional gun-control measures resulted in even more of the rifles rapidly moving off gun-store shelves.

Bonus: What is a Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR)?

Originally all black in color and looking very different from traditional rifles of the time, AR-15s faced some serious resistance when first introduced to the civilian shooting public. To many, their appearance was just too much like the fully automatic military assault rifles they were patterned after. In many people’s opinion, the guns just looked intimidating.

To counter that sentiment, the National Shooting Sports Foundation coined the term Modern Sporting Rifle, pointing out that these new semi-autos were no different in function than previous semi-automatic rifles. It took a while for the AR-15 concept to catch on and become fully accepted by sportsmen—especially with older hunters and shooters—but the floodgates gradually swung open and today AR-15s are the most popular sporting rifle platform. So if you own an AR-15 you also own a Modern Sporting Rifle (MSR), and vice versa.

1 big thing: Flood of money pours into climate tech

Funds are making moves to achieve climate solutions breakthroughs, as well as investing in companies that seek to help communities better manage the climate risks they already face today, Andrew and Dan Primack write.

Driving the news: This morning, StormSensor, a company that monitors watersheds in real time, including providing flood data, announced it has closed a $10 million funding round. The funding is co-led by Orbia Ventures and Buoyant Ventures, with participation from other funds and individuals.

Details: The company’s work is not the sexiest role in the climate tech space, but it’s increasingly vital as extreme precipitation events increase in intensity and frequency as global warming continues.

StormSensor places modular devices in pipes and other locations to monitor stormwater, sewer and coastal infrastructure in cities across the U.S., including Seattle, Norfolk, Virginia, and Boston.
The company’s cloud-based software can alert city officials when water depth gets too high or flow declines, potentially signaling impending flooding. StormSensor offers a whole-scale replacement of traditional ways of monitoring that rely on spot checks of tiny components of a city’s total underground infrastructure.
What they're saying: Erin Rothman, founder and CEO of StormSensor, told Axios that her vision for the company is for it to provide city agencies the equivalent of Google traffic maps of sewers and stormwater systems, and eventually coastal systems, too.

“We're monitoring and tracking how water is moving through these systems, or in many cases, how water is not moving through the systems,” she said. “And it's important to be able to do it both during good weather conditions and of course, disasters.”

State of play: In a separate development illustrating the push on carbon mitigation and cutting emissions, Lowercarbon Capital, the climate-focused VC firm led by Chris Sacca, yesterday told limited partners that it wants to raise two new funds, Axios has learned. One will be focused on carbon removal and the other on fusion.

What we're watching: Ryan Orbuch will lead the carbon removal fund. He joins Lowercarbon from Stripe, where he was widely credited with helping make the payments company a carbon removal pioneer.

Per the letter to LPs: "Removal means removal. It means cleanup on Aisle 2 of the 170 years of milk already spilled."
On fusion, Lowercarbon already has backed three companies; including Commonwealth Fusion Systems, which just raised more than $1.8 billion in new funding. Per the letter to LPs: "The biggest tipping point will come when fusion reaction generates more energy than it takes in... Q>1 is the Kitty Hawk moment for energy. It's Lindbergh crossing the Atlantic and Aldrin bouncing on the moon..."
Neither fund has a refined target, but both include a 15% GP commit and a 25% carried interest, per documents obtained by Axios.

Living In False Fear Of COVID And Climate Change
The Left demands it.

We live in a scared country. Granted, much of the fear is confined to our elites. They are conditioned to fear at our most prestigious colleges and universities. Those who program them need them afraid, as those living in fear are much easier to manipulate. But it is not totally confined to our worst and dumbest.

The spectres of virus and climate change prowl the national savanna searching for weak souls to ensnare even though actual evidence mitigates against fear of those things and points to legitimate concern over other subjects.

The virus. What’s the latest scam? Ah yes, the Omicron variant. Wonder how long it took the boys and girls at HHS to come up with the not so very scary sounding name of that? Really. Couldn’t we at least be under the black plague-like thrall of the Emperor Ming Death Flu or the Atomic Blood Infection? But no. We are told to cower over a wuss named disease that still has the regular COVID-19 recovery rate of over 97 percent.

So logically, except for cases of serious susceptibility, we should just blow off this made up bogeyman and get on with our lives. However, the Left can’t have that. This is such a perfect little agent of control. It brings out the nasty school marm in many and assures that nanny state minions will have a field day telling the rest of us what to do. So they fill our days and our public spaces with Stakhanovite exhortations to get with the program, lest…well…lest something bad really happen! But it won’t. A fake fear inducing real restrictions.

Another one of the Left’s gambits into control through fear is the climate scam. Since the early 1970s we’ve heard, from Paul Ehrlich and the like, all manner of Chicken Little predictions about the fate of the planet. None of it has happened. Not a one.  Remember Al Gore telling us twenty years ago that we ought to be so afraid of global warming? The polar ice caps will melt by now? Then, when that didn’t happen, climate change was the new marketing gimmick. How stupid do you really have to be to buy into a concept that has never been right? But the Left, like Charlie Brown looking at a football held by Lucy, keeps on believing no matter what the evidence to the contrary. Well, some of the Left. There are those leftists who know exactly what is going on, but who will not turn down a good imaginary crisis when they see it.

What we should be worried about, the Orwellian cast of our culture and the increasing stupidity and thus vulnerability to demagogues of our voters, are cast aside in the onrush of fear over the false frights of COVID-19 and climate change. Will we ever learn not to be so gullible? No.

Rand Paul Says Fauci Wants ‘Submission’
BY JOHN HANSON
DECEMBER 1, 2021

On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul continued his one-man crusade against the White House’s top doctor Anthony Fauci, saying Fauci was mistaken when he recently said he “represented science.”

Paul made his remarks during an interview on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends.”

Sen. Paul: ‘It is sort of like you are now contradicting the all high priest of science if you say anything’ about Fauci
Paul said many of Fauci’s COVID-19 pandemic dictates have not been “based in science” and were “more about submission.”

Paul said, “It’s sort of a way of ending all debate because if you attack him or have any debate over any of his edicts or mandate, you’re attacking science. This is a very, very dangerous sort of idea, the idea that a government bureaucrat represents science and that he is now untouchable.”

Over the weekend, Fauci made the astonishing claim that Republican criticism of him was merely a stand-in for an ‘attack on science,’ because Fauci ‘represents science.’

“Anybody who’s looking at this carefully realizes that there’s a distinct anti-science flavor to this, so if they get up and criticize science, nobody’s going to know what they’re talking about,” Fauci said.

“But if they get up and really aim their bullets at Tony Fauci, well people can recognize that there’s a person there, so it’s easy to criticize, but they’re really criticizing science because I represent science.”

Senator Paul, a medical doctor, said, “It is sort of like you are now contradicting the all high priest of science if you say anything. But there are the real questions, and there’s real areas of science that he’s never really debated because he deflects.”

The Republican senator continued, “One area is over 100 million Americans have had COVID. They have natural immunity. There’s a real question about whether they should be vaccinated once, twice or not at all.”

“And the thing is there’s never been any debate because he’s the all-powerful scientist, you’re not to question him, just do as you’re told,” Paul said, adding, “So with him, it’s more about
submission.”
