telephoned DMV for new, higher rate; was quoted $96.41.
I filled out check # 1498, dated 2-1-11; R TELLO in the Memo Line.
Postmarked and mailed same day.

Date unknown, Received DMV letter, dated 2-15-11. Rubber Stamped "MAR 03
2011 VALIDATED"
Check #1498 was enclosed. Letter asks me what the check is for.
[That is where this got stupid!]
On the letter I disclosed "Vehicle Registration, 98 Ford Ranger, R
TELLO,

and VIN 1FTYRXXXXXXXXXXX "

Re-mailed letter & check on or about the next day, date unknown.

On Sunday, 3-13-11 I received DMV letter dated 3-09-11.
Letter says my check was postmarked after the expiration date.
New, higher price is $108.83.

I AM DISPUTING ALL OF THIS. THE EVIDENCE PROVES THE POSTMARK WAS UNDER
THE EXPIRATION DATE. I EXPERIENCED DELAYS IN THE MAIL, WAITING FOR MY
REG.STICKER SOON AFTER FIRST CHECK, OF $78.00 WAS SENT.
MY VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN LEGAL FOR 2 MONTHS NOW, AND THIS IS CRAP!!!

I AM ABLE AND WILLING TO PAY ORIGINAL FEE OF $78.00.

May we settle this sooner rather than later? Or shall I consult with an
Attorney?

[FYI: I maintain valid insurance on my vehicle and rarely ever drive it.
Pound for pound, the DMV is benefiting from my patronage more than I. I

[EDITOR'S NOTE: On 4-22-11 at 11:15AM, I called my Auto Insurance guy, Rob Supp.
I Briefed him and asked for his email addy.
Got it. Sent him "The Goods" herein.
30 minutes later I get his phone call.
He says "In the eyes of the DMV, EVERYBODY is piece of shite. It's ALL ABOUT THE MONEY.
They don't like me either...Sorry I can't help you but I share your grief. Good luck! ".

I says "Yeah, I know. My issue is they won't take my money".

After several hours of deliberating with myself, I sent this email:]

Car registration is issued by the relevant government body in each state - we don't have a choice of "provider", Tello.

In Victoria, registration is issued by VicRoads.
In Western Australia, it's issued by Licensing services (WA).
In the Northern Territory, Motor vehicle registry (NT).
In New South Wales, it's Roads and Traffic Authority, NSW.
In South Australia, it's the Motoring (SA) section of the SA govt.
In Queensland, it's Transport and Main Roads (Qld).
In Tasmania, it's Transport, DIER (Tas).
In the Australian Capital Territory, it's Rego.act.

My last rego cost $624.10 (paid annually).
