The US has made and can make some superb films. In particular, I think, the golden years of Hollywood's screwball comedies, many thrillers, scifi... but in general I'm not a tremendous fan of US comedy, and in particular not sitcoms. One exception is The Big Bang Theory which I loved.
The UK film style tends to appeal to me very, very much. I cannot get enough of UK comedy, UK thrillers, UK mysteries, UK costume dramas, etc.
I don't think that Australia's film industry is more than good (and sometimes considerably worse than that). There have been some well-crafted films but in general Australian filmmakers don't use music very well in their films, nor do they direct their actors well enough to avoid bathos and over-acting.
My favourite film of all time is Random Harvest. Love it, love it, love it. Make sure you have handkerchiefs at the ready if you watch it.
