It’s saving your/our businesses or your/our life. Not a difficult decision. People are not feeling safe. This new virus should concern anyone with a pulse.

Vaughn Jones
how many people have to die before you become a human?

How many have to die?

Mike Rotman
Sounds like you are saying we need to have more safety nets in place. Maybe Universal income for the next year or at least during the lockdown. I agree. Lock it down to keep Everybody's Health safe, and then do what every other country in the world seems to be doing which is supplement everybody's income. The problem is when you try to do that Fox News start screaming communism and socialism so we get $1,200 for 8 months. While in Canada they get $2,000 a month as well as subsidies for businesses that must close. The problem is not the closures to save lives, the problem is that we don't get anything from the government who closes up because of fear and misdirection and people who are lead to believe there is a "red scare"

Lori Reid
Mike Rotman I literally got tears in my eyes reading this 😟 its so true ! This government does not know if they are foot or horseback!! and there control issues with the people of America will never fly !! They don't care about families they don't care about those who are loosing a little more each day! They don't care about the straight A student that now has straight F and have lost there self esteem so there only option they see and think is suicide! and it's happening its real. Iam not a political person and thank God I don't know how to think like these horrible evil people that have sold there souls to the devil and it's getting close to pay up so they want to take as many of use that have fallen under there power with them I know Iam rattling on ,but I hope you get what I mean thanks for letting me vent 😷stay safe?

Woe, this is HEAVY, I'm staying out of it.

This email newsletter also serves as the City's official press release regarding the City's COVID-19 response, and press inquiries may be directed to City Manager Frank Rush at 909-866-5832 or via email.

BIG BEAR SUBJECT TO GOVERNOR'S NEW ORDER, EFFECTIVE TOMORROW
The ICU availability in Southern California dipped to 12.5% last night, thus triggering the Governor's new regional order in San Bernardino County and Big Bear. Practically speaking, this means that all individuals and businesses in Big Bear must comply with the new order by tomorrow morning. (Technically, the order goes into effect at 11:59 pm tonight.)  :panic: :runforhills: :drama:

The Governor's new order will be in place for at least 3 weeks, and perhaps longer.
LET'S GET THIS OVER WITH!
BIG BEAR NEEDS TO EMBRACE THE ORDER AND COMPLY
The City's position throughout the COVID-19 event has been that local case numbers and County hospitalization data are the most important data to inform the City's response. For most of the COVID-19 event, Big Bear has been fortunate to experience a relatively ow incidence of COVID-19, and San Bernardino County hospitals have maintained adequate capacity since the event began in mid-March. That is not the case now, as Big Bear has experienced similar case levels as the rest of California in recent weeks, and the San Bernardino County hospital system is now at risk of being overwhelmed.

As such, the entire Big Bear community should embrace the Governor's new regional order and fully comply with all aspects in Big Bear. The City expects EVERYONE in our community to be diligent and do your part to help discourage further spread and prevent our County hospital system from being overwhelmed. If everyone in Southern California does their part, we can get this over with right after Christmas. With vaccines set for initial distribution in the next few weeks, there is light at the end of the tunnel, and after a long and painful 2020 we need to begin 2021 on an optimistic and hopeful note!

Throughout the COVID-19 event, the City has purposely and deliberately worked to achieve the right balance among  a) keeping our community safe,  b) promoting the success of our local businesses,
c) maintaining community cohesion in an especially divisive and challenging time, and
d) enabling our community to eventually emerge from the COVID-19 pandemic poised for future success. This balance has adjusted in a subtle manner from time to time based on the actual COVID-19 experience in Big Bear and San Bernardino County, and is shifting again - appropriately toward more precautions to keep our community safe and ensure adequate hospital capacity.

The City encourages EVERYONE to embrace these restrictions and comply - to discourage the spread and to maintain adequate capacity in our County hospitals. The person in need of an ICU bed may ultimately be you, your family member, or a close friend, and it's imperative that our County maintains adequate capacity to treat those in need.
HOW THE GOVERNOR'S NEW ORDER APPLIES IN BIG BEAR
The Governor's new order builds on previous State orders, and it can be difficult to determine exactly how it applies in Big Bear. The City has worked hard throughout the COVID-19 event to explain how the various restrictions apply in OUR community, and the latest restrictions mean the following for Big Bear:

interacting with others who are not part of your immediate household is prohibited, unless you are participating in the permitted activities outlined in the Governor's new order (and indicated below), AND you implement appropriate face covering, physical distancing, and personal hygiene practices,

individuals are not prohibited from moving around the community, as long as they are traveling to or from or participating in the permitted activities outlined below,

outdoor recreational activities are permitted, including skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snow tubing, hiking, running, biking, walking, and visiting the lakeshore and other parks,

Big Bear Mountain Resorts and other commercial snow play areas may operate,

all retail stores may remain open, but are limited to 20% capacity (including grocery stores) and must have an employee stationed at the entrance to ensure that entry is limited,

restaurants may operate for take-out and delivery only,

hair, beauty, and nail salons, and other personal care services must close,

the bowling alley, other indoor entertainment centers, and bars / nightclubs must close,

churches and other places of worship are limited to outdoor or online worship only,

the zoo must close,

traditional hotels and lodging facilities may only operate if housing essential workers,

vacation rentals may be occupied, but only by members of the same immediate household,

second homes may be occupied, but only by members of the same immediate household,

any visitors originating from outside California, and not traveling for essential business purposes, must quarantine for 14 days,

California residents are advised to limit travel within the State, and within 2 - 3 hours of home, and only with your immediate household.

These new restrictions are effective in Big Bear tomorrow morning, December 7. Please be responsible, and do your part!
RESPECT EACH OTHERS' FEARS AND OPINIONS!
Every aspect of the COVID-19 event has been difficult for EVERYONE! Please be reminded that YOU are not the only person impacted by these challenging times, and EVERYONE is struggling in some way.

With the latest restrictions taking effect tomorrow, tensions are likely to escalate even more, particularly given the long road we've all travelled together this year and with the holidays approaching. As you think about your own situation, please put yourself in the shoes of others:

consider the elderly person or individual with a compromised immune system who is truly fearful for their health and safety,

consider the struggles of those who have a family member in the hospital or have lost someone they cared about deeply,

consider the fatigue of all of those in health care working tirelessly to help others,

consider the business owner worried about losing everything he or she has worked their entire life to build,

consider the individual dependent on his / her job to feed their family, pay the mortgage or rent, and keep the heat on,

consider the mental health impacts of the disease, the restrictions, and the isolation, and how your family and friends may be struggling deep inside without showing it to anyone else,

consider those second home owners spending more time in our community, who care deeply about our community and are simply seeking the same things we're all seeking in Big Bear,

consider those respectful visitors who are simply seeking to spend time in our community and get through this mess in the same way we're all trying to get through it,

consider all of the elected leaders, and Federal, State, and local employees working many long hours to address something no one has ever experienced in any of our lifetimes, and

most importantly, BE THANKFUL for what you do have, and your ability to control your own destiny by taking appropriate precautions for your personal situation.

There is light at the end of the tunnel, and despite the new darkness for the next few weeks, that light will get brighter. The light will always overcome the darkness!
CITY HALL OPEN FOR BUSINESS ELECTRONICALLY AND BY APPOINTMENT ONLY
City staff have been and continue to work hard to provide essential local government services during the COVID-19 event. In light of evolving circumstances and the new restrictions, City Hall remains open but business may only be conducted with City staff via telephone (909-866-5831), email, video conferencing, or by appointment only.

Please contact the main telephone number (909-866-5831) or the appropriate City department to make arrangements to conduct business. We will do our very best to serve you in a safe, efficient, and helpful manner.
BIG BEAR CASES CONTINUE TO INCREASE
According to the latest data from San Bernardino County, there have now been a cumulative total of 402 confirmed COVID-19 cases since mid-March. Of this total, there have been 151 cases in the City of Big Bear Lake, 205 cases in Big Bear City, 40 cases in Sugarloaf, and 6 cases in Fawnskin.

The City receives Big Bear Valley-specific information from San Bernardino County contact tracers, but has not received an updated report this weekend. Data on the number of active cases will be included in the next City update this week.
SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY COVID-19 HOSPITALIZATIONS CONTINUE TO INCREASE
Because any COVID-19 patients from the Big Bear Valley would likely be treated by other, larger hospitals in San Bernardino County, City officials continue to closely monitor hospitalization data in the entire County.

According to the latest data, there are currently 1,036 confirmed and suspected COVID-19 patients hospitalized in San Bernardino County. According to the latest data, there are now a total of 230 COVID-19 patients in intensive care. This number continues to increase, is the most significant concern of the State, County, and City, and is the primary reason for the Governor's new order.

There are now a total of 72 intensive care beds still available in San Bernardino County, and County officials are hard at work to maximize the number of intensive care beds available.
PLEASE TAKE ALL STEPS TO KEEP YOURSELF, YOUR FAMILY, AND YOUR COMMUNITY SAFE!
Now more than ever, it is ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL for EVERYONE to do everything you can to keep yourself, your family, and your community SAFE!

PLEASE do your part, for all of us:

if you are feeling sick, stay at home, isolate yourself from everyone, and get tested as soon as possible,

if you are especially vulnerable or fearful of becoming sick, please take appropriate precautions for your circumstances, including staying at home,

WEAR A FACE COVERING whenever you are indoors at a local business, and also if you are within 6 feet of others in an outdoor setting,

maintain at least 6 feet of distance from others whenever possible, and

practice good personal hygiene - wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer.

All of these steps are EASY and are simply COMMON-SENSE! There's really no excuse for anyone to not take the precautions indicated above, and your diligence may make the difference for others!
NEXT CITY TESTING EVENT SET FOR DECEMBER 15
The City and County continue to partner to offer Big Bear testing events, and the next testing event is scheduled for Tuesday, December 15 at City Hall. The appointment portal is expected to be open a few days prior to December 15, and can be accessed by clicking here.

San Bernardino County continues to offer free COVID-19 testing at numerous locations off the mountain, and a complete list of testing sites and dates is available here. The City and the County encourage EVERYONE to get tested, regardless of whether or not you have symptoms, and to get tested REPEATEDLY.

Due to the inability of Abbott Laboratories to deliver COVID-19 test kits and a testing device, as promised in August, the City has terminated its agreement with Bear Mountain Family Medicine Urgent Care for rapid testing. Both the City and Bear Mountain Family Medicine Urgent Care are extremely disappointed in Abbott Laboratories, however, testing availability has expanded significantly in the Big Bear Valley since August. Anyone in need of a COVID-19 test should be able to secure a test at any number of locations, both in the Big Bear Valley and elsewhere. Many private doctors have access to testing, and Bear Valley Community Hospital continues to provide regular testing. Local testing is also available at CVS on Big Bear Boulevard.

How much does a snow blower cost?

Snow blowers come in a great variety of sizes, horsepowers, and stages.  Therefore, the price range is quite large.  Snow blowers can cost anywhere from $200 to $1000.  For example, the Greenworks 26032 is a lower-end electric snow blower that is 20 inches wide and will cost about $200.

The Murray 1695537 is gas powered, wider, and will cost around $400.  It is a single-stage snow blower, meaning that it only has one set of blades, that it can clear snow up to one foot in depth, that it provides some momentum but will need to be pushed, and that it cannot be used on gravel or rough surfaces – only smooth paved driveways.

A two-stage snow blower has two sets of blades – one that cuts through the ice and hard snow and one that is smooth to pick up and throw the snow up the chute.  These types of snow blowers do not make any direct contact with the ground and can, therefore, be used on any type of surface.  A two-stage snow blower is usually capable of going in forward and reverse, and can usually clear snow up to almost three feet in depth.  An example of this type of snow blower is the Powerland PDST-32, which will cost about $900.

An electric snow blower will require an outlet as well as an extension cord.  An electric snow blower can cost anywhere from $85 to $600.  The wider the blower is, the more it will cost.

A two-stage snow blower that runs on gasoline can cost anywhere from $299 to $1,400 depending on the brand and size.

Brand   Price Range (from 24 inch  to 33 inch width path)
Ariens   $649 to $2,500
Bolens   $179 to  $1,200
Craftsman   $500 to $1,000
Cub Cadet   $700 to $1,800
Honda   $600 to $2,500
Husqvarna   $800 to $2,000
Simplicity   $500 to $2,500
Snow Joe Electric   $65 to $300
Toro   $400 to $1,500
Troy Bilt   $900 to $2,200
Yard Machine   $400 to $900

What is going to be included in the estimates above?
All of the batteries, cords, and blades needed to run the machine will be included.

All snow blowers will come with an owner’s manual.

Most snow blowers come with some type of warranty – this depends on the company.

Popular features
An electric starter allows you to plug in your snow blower to start the engine during colder weather.

The intake height may be able to be adjusted to determine how much snow it can take in.

A single-hand operation allows you to make easier adjustments.

The speed controls let you set the machine pace.

Power steering, similar to a car, allows you to turn the snow blower with ease.

Larger tires may offer better traction when maneuvering.  Some may even have dual tires for a better grip.

A remote control chute lets you change the direction of the chute.  A joystick chute, on the other hand, will be manually controlled.

An extended chute allows you to reduce the blowback of snow.

A headlight may be available for visibility at night.

A scabbard may be optional to carry a shotgun or a varmint rifle.

Super-sized cup holder allows you to carry a 6-pack of your favorite beverage.

On-Board Infra-Red LED Lazer Scan Control and Monitoring System for tactical maneuvers and real-time combat.

Heated handgrips will warm your hands to make the work more comfortable.

What are the extra costs?
The blades on snow blowers will need to be replaced every few years.  This will cost between $10 and $50 depending on the size and stage of your blower.

Electric snow blowers will need a replacement battery every few years.  These batteries usually cost $30 to $50.

Electric snow blowers are going to require a heavy-duty, outdoor extension cord.  It’s recommended that cords longer than 50 to 100 feet are purchased.  These cords can start at $15.

If using a gas blower or a blower that is powerful and loud, it’s ideal to purchase ear protection to drown out the sound.

Gas blowers will need an oil change every 50 hours of use, and spark plugs will be needed after every 100 hours of use.  Frequently purchased together, this should cost about $25.

When prepping the snow blower for the season, it’s best to use a fuel stabilizer to store it for the off-season.  These stabilizers can cost about $10.

Sheer pins may be needed if you need to replace and/or break one.  These pins can cost about $5 to $10.  According to snowblowersdirect.com, plan on spending about $72.39 per year to maintain your snow blower.

Tips to know:
Always wear tight-fitting clothing when using a snow blower.  Loose fitting clothing has a better chance of getting caught in the blades.

Always wait for the unit to cool down before filling up with gas.  Also, before cleaning it, always wait for it to cool as well.

Don’t purchase a snow blower that is too big.  It’s ideal to purchase a two-stage blower for those that have a driveway wider than 25?.  For an electric blower, consider it for smaller sidewalks and spaces that receive lighter, fluffier snow.

Measure the width of your driveway and make sure you choose the right size.

If you need to use this snow blower on steep terrains, be sure it’s built for this rugged terrain.

Wet and heavy snow can often clog the snow blower’s chutes.  If you live in an area prone to this, it’s ideal to look for a heavyweight blower that can handle this type of situation.

Cold weather can often make your snow blower hard to start and to prevent this, it’s a good idea to purchase a snow blower that allows you to plug the starter into the wall.

Types of snow blowers:
Electric Unit

These units are lightweight, portable and very easy to use.  These units are designed for smaller driveways and spaces,  ideal for a driveway less than 35 feet.  Requiring an outlet, an electric can work on just about any surface besides gravel.

Gas Unit

Powered on gas, these units are more powerful and ideal for larger driveways, longer than 40 feet.  A gas unit is perfect for just about any snowfall range.

Single-Stage

Ideal for up to 12 inches deep and can clear paths up to 22 inches wide.  This unit shouldn’t be used on gravel surfaces.

Two-Stage

One of the biggest units available, a two-stage gas unit is powerful, can clear big paths, easy to start up.  This unit is ideal for larger commercial spaces and for snowfalls that receive more than 12 inches of hard, compact snow.  This type of setup will need a gas and oil combination to start it.

Three-Stage

Ideal for heavy snow and can clear snow up to three feet deep.  Most models can throw snow up to 50 feet and can handle heavier snow and ice.

Cordless

Ideal for lighter snow up to 12 inches.  It is lighter in weight and is known to be more environmentally friendly.

Top brands to consider:
Ariens

Cub Cadet

Craftsman

MTD

Toro

How can I save money?
Used and refurbished snow blowers can be found through services such as Amazon, eBay, and Craigslist for a discounted price.

Somehow, in someway, perhaps maybe there's a possibility a vague notion may arise and predict an uncertain probability that chances are slim and my ratings are awaiting for our marginal world-wide group review!

Ron Tello Culley I got your back,no worries😉Im not sure "heavy" is the right word though. This is one of the most ridiculous, insulting posts I've read yet😡and I'm not going to stay out of it. I've known
Daniel Dansereau for several years, and I'm stunned to say the least that he would post this type of crap in my group. Jesus take the damn wheel😥I believe in freedom of speech, everyone's rights,blah,blah,blah....but folks need to leave the dumb shite on their own Facebook walls, and their own group's. This is so damn ridiculous I'm pissed off laughing😂😡😂😠

Ron Tello Culley

Aussies are just damn cute!

They try hard to do well but they'll NEVER exceed Monty Python and Benny Hill.

Straight up...Many are their own worst enemy and don't even realize it. When it comes to the Covid circus, sadly, many people don't care. If it doesn't make sense to them or suit their line of thinking, they simply don't care, and everyone else be damned, because in their eyes we who wear masks are stupid sheep and we don't matter.??So here we go again😥 People would rather argue over covid statistics, people would rather bully each other over what they believe verses with someone else may believe. People prefer to fuss and fight amongst themselves rather than do something as simple as wearing a damn mask in public. None of us like it, none of us think it's cute, none of us think it's a new fashion statement, but many of us have chosen to do it simply to try to get back to some type of normal life. But it's NOT going to happen, because no matter what we do, no matter what we say, no matter how hard we try, there's people that are simply not going to do it because they firmly believe they know better than anyone, and they don't care about anyone but themselves. Yet they don't want to take responsibility for being the reason that people are losing their homes, and their businesses, and their jobs🤔Pretty ironic when you think about it??AND HERE WE GO AGAIN😥🙏
