“How EBay Is Winning With Bid to Enhance the Customer Experience”
http://adage.com/article?article_id=139755#comments

Here is a fascinating bit of nonsense straight out of the eBay Department of Spin. The heading was enough to stop me reading any further initially, but then I thought I may as well get a laugh, and sure enough the “No” is practicing his “Ho-speak”; probably getting ready for the quarterly financial spin session due on the 21st (22nd our time).
“Today we’re dealing with phase two or phase three [he can’t even remember which one] of disruptive innovation. We’ve had the disruption, now we must disrupt our own disruption.”—John Donahoe (2007).

I said at the time, and I repeat it now, that Bill Me Later is an insane idea at a time when people are already too far extended on credit.

It does none of the buyers any service.

eBay "will only permit the sale of archaeological artefacts in Switzerland with proof of legality issued by the competent authorities in Switzerland or abroad," the Culture Office said in a statement.

The restrictions apply particularly to cultural property classified in risk categories including those contained in the "red list" of the International Council of Museums, and in categories defined in bilateral agreements.

Both Interpol and Unesco, the United Nations culture agency, have released recommendations concerning the illegal trade of stolen cultural artefacts.

A law banning the illegal trafficking of cultural property entered into force in Switzerland nearly four years ago. The country is one of the world's top four trade hubs for art objects.

eBay's international headquarters are in Bern, the Swiss capital.

Well, did anyone else find the final sentence of this quotation an ironic little dig?

eBay should have acted a great deal sooner in doing something about the rampant degree of fakes being sold on its venue. It seems that the fact that eBay must comply with Swiss law indicates eBay finally had no choice but to sign this agreement.

""eBay's international headquarters are in Bern, the Swiss capital""...countess they are probably on the other side of the street under another province boarder therefore that rule will not apply to them...LOL...it will be in the fine print somewhere no doubt...LOL

For the first time in a year, eBay merchandise sales and revenue rise

“We are seeing our turnaround efforts begin to pay off,” eBay CEO John Donahoe said yesterday in announcing the results. “While we still have a lot more work to do to improve trust, value and selection, we are making progress.”
