Yes, I'd noticed that - and got rather ... enraged.

I sent him a polite but definite communication expressing how disappointed I was in his saying something of this nature. I didn't call him a cretin. I didn't say he probably read nothing but online comics. I was polite.

That is really disturbing - that anyone would think other people's hacked password details should be given out and used for a laugh.

The fulfillment service is intended to help woo large sellers that provide a much bigger opportunity, according to eBay. The company estimates that the large seller segment opportunity is currently $160 billion compared to the small seller opportunity of just around $12 billion and the small and medium business (SMB) segment of around $36 billion.

I don't understand why the "large sellers" would be attracted to eBay when they can sell on their own sites, set their own prices and not pay any fees.

Traffic.  EBay has it.

In another article (posted in this thread) it has been stated that merchants with their own websites are using eBay as an additional sales channel. With eBay's traffic, it means a greater exposure which will translate into more sales.  I have read (and know of) some sellers who will press on with developing their own websites, but keep a presence on eBay - and write it off as an 'advertising' expense.

As for the fulfillment service, it might offer useful benefits for some businesses....

I'm with Smee on that ... if Sellers have been doing the right thing (and at that volume of sales, you would expect they would understand the obligation to do so) there won't be too much of a problem.

Except, of course, how eBay actually report the figures.

I spoke to my seller friend who said "So? They've done this last year and the year before - it's just now they are publicising it."  They also said that eBay had in the past only reported total Gross Sales. NO adjustments for non-payers, nothing about postage, etc.

Just as well my seller friend has a setup where they can track the various twists and turns - so if they are asked to 'please explain' they can.  (They showed me an example and I believe they could answer - and support - any questions from the ATO.)

Any Seller on the 'list' should be able to, IMHO.

Brumby, you would be surprised how many "big" sellers the ATO caught last year. I'll see if I can find the report.

Found it, I've started another thread so this one doesn't get sidetracked.

***Canada Post suspends operations till further notice*** STILL ongoing.

*Canada Post suspends operations***

Canada post STILL on strike , complete lockout, (been 3 weeks so far)

Due to an ongoing labour dispute between Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers, Canada Post has announced that mail will not be accepted or delivered across Canada until further notice.

The suspended service impacts all shipments to and from Canada handled by Canada Post, as well as shipments into Canada via other postal carriers. As a result there is likely to be a delay in the delivery of items to Canadian buyers or from Canadian sellers.

eBay would encourage any affected seller to notify affected customers of the likely delay to their purchases arriving and for buyers to please be patient during this time.

FYI, USPS may be next as they are broke...and have said so publicly, the entire postal system is subsidized ... like the rest of nearly everything in North America.

Aust post should pay heed.
They said there would be cake....and there WAS!

Yes, Colin Rule: From eBay Conflicts to Global Peace Initiatives

http://www.auctionbytes.com/cab/cab/abu/y211/m06/abu0289/s05

“Colin Rule: I learned a couple interesting lessons I didn't know before coming to eBay. First, buyers trade off convenience and outcome. We discovered buyers would rather lose a dispute quickly, say within a week, than win a dispute and have it take a month. The added headache of worrying about the matter is more painful to them than the injustice over losing $50-$75.”

Well, eBay’s diamond-seller-biased dispute algorithm will certainly be making good use of that perception:

If diamond_seller then seller_win else buyer_win

“Second, disputes are an incredible loyalty opportunity. We compared hundreds of thousands of user accounts and discovered that users who filed disputes used PayPal more after the dispute than users who never filed a dispute in the first place. And that was regardless of outcome - even users who lost their dispute were more loyal.”

“… regardless of outcome - even users who lost their dispute were more loyal.”? Please, pull the other leg!

“Colin Rule: By volume, the number one [dispute] reason is buyer payment.”

So, what dispute resolution is involved here? If the buyer does not pay, they don’t get the goods. Seems pretty simple to me; even I could design an algorithm to handle that black and white situation.

And it appears that Mr Rule managed to avoid answering the question, most interesting of all, about DSRs. Oh, well, maybe when the next cretin defects from eBay?
