😡You guys are going to have to excuse my language on this one but who in the actual fuk does the powers that be a Big Bear Lake think they are? Now they think they're going to try to force vacation rental property owners to use one of our property management companies up here to run their vacation rentals or they can't have them?
These people are out of their goddamn Minds and I don't know what they think they're pulling or why they think everybody's stupid, but I can assure you that they cannot legally force a property owner to use one of these shady ass felafeling companies up here. And if they think for one minute they're going to put me out of work and homeless and many others on this mountain out of work and homeless they better think again😡 I will be the first person to start a class action lawsuit against the Shady sons of Irma Greses that are running our community.
The only reason this is happening is because a good majority of the shady ass property management companies are in cahoots with the goddamn mayor and the powers-that-be and this is going to get very ugly trust me.
I completely understand trying to limit the amount of vacation rentals within our community, but even that's ridiculous considering we are a dual Resort community. This is straight bullshit, and I for one will be contacting an attorney immediately because this city is not going to take away my work that I do legitimately. The city is not going to force me into homelessness because they're so God damn greedy they think we're all stupid😡 Property Owners cannot be forced to hire on useless management companies that charge 30% off the top and then double and triple charge owners and guests, they do not adhere to rules, nor do they follow the Covid rules. Yheir only concern is money and don't pretend most of you don't know what's going on because you damn well do.
Shady Unacceptable shite😡
Debralyn Hyman Day
bull i worked for a big one
n they did shady stuff so I quit
example charged snow plow but
no plow came as owners down mountain..
didnt return lost n found.. very fast cleans
with lots of errors im on your side
Dee Levey
Debralyn Hyman Day do they really think property owners who actually take the time to research the management company's up here aren't aware that one of the owners of one of the biggest companies on the mountain is in a relationship with a pedophile accused of drugging and raping little boys? Have these people lost their goddamn Minds?
Debralyn Hyman Day
Dee Levey i believe I work there n it was so discouraging ..
Karen Dargis
This is sickening!!!!! 🤬
Nicole Boucher
Dee Levey it really sucks I know of a couple trying to find a new place because they have to move and all the rentals and air b&bs there are no housing for any locals
Christy Huber
Does AirBnB charge a local city tax? The city is probably looking to gain that extra tax through the property management companies if AirBnB is not charging it? Joshua Tree & Yucca Valley homeowners are charged a yearly fee ( I believe it's approx $500 annual) by the City if homeowners are using AirBnB/online rental services. Maybe this fee is what Big Bear should charge, so the City is happy & homeowners can continue using online rental services. Just a thought...
Dee Levey
There's a planning commission/council meeting Nov 18th for review of the ordinance. Show up and be heard and constructive! Something does need to be done address problem homes/agencies/owners and the housing situation. But this ordinance does not solve the problems!
Kyle R Grover
Its not enforceable. My attorney already looked into this and they can't force you to choose from a list of local management company. This is the city officials forcing people to use their friends companies. We already have current contracts with other companies and they can't force us to break them.
Dee Levey
Kyle R Grover and thank you so much for posting this because I'm being told the same thing by two different attorneys so I appreciate your input more than you know💜
Kelly Rollins
Please go to the city council meeting and voice your concerns. They are valid and appreciated.

We rented a home. When we showed up everything was full of dust. There was mice droppings all over the kitchen counters. So we cleaned everything as soon as we got in. I called to let them know and they said those are old..The next morning we woke up and they where all over again. We went out back to use the jacuzzi the yard was full of weeds and beer cans. The jacuzzi was. Nasty. If we could have found somewhere else to stay we would have. We rented a home for Fathers Day. So No the companies up there Do not take care of the properties and do not keep them clean. I doubt they even let the owner know that the home was having issues.
Dee Levey
Breanne Carpenter Melchor you are 110% correct they are shady they do not care they do not abide by the rules they do not properly clean the vacation rentals due to the covid-19 they double and triple charge to guests and the owners and you're right they don't tell the owners what's really going on up here because they know as long as they send that check to the owner the owners aren't going to question anything. they never tell the owners about problems structural or otherwise the majority of the property management companies up here are worthless as tits on a damn boar, but the majority of them are in cahoots with the city planners and the powers-that-be they have their own little klusterfuk circle where they plan out how they're going to try to screw over the community next
Kyle R Grover
Breanne Carpenter Melchor the ones up here are really bad. Will never use them again. I have a private company maintain my rentals. I pay a few dollars more but the quality of work is great. Most of my rentals are booked through next april and several are through next summer. with calls daily with more deposits on dates.
Breanne Carpenter Melchor
Dee Levey yes that’s awful. I would be so upset if my home was in the condition it was when we came to stay. We never had any issue renting thru Cool big bear cabins. The houses where always clean. But this last place we rented thru was horrible. Owners would love to know what is going on so they can get it fixed so it doesn’t create another issue. When we called back again and let them know they need to do some work and that it was not cleaned. She told us wow we have never had a issue. Yeah right!!! We will never use them again.
Kyle R Grover
The city council is very corrupt. They already have their minds set and we are just wasting our time voicing our thoughts. They all need to be replaced. Lawsuits are the only thing they will respond to. Cost them money and they will listen. Oh and while your there ask them about the new resort going through planning right now for bear mountain. Good by golf coarse. I have a friend in planning who showed me the plans.
Lorie Linn
I read the new ordinance and wonder how many of the items are actually new? Were they there before and not enforced!???
Also, allowing 16 people in one home and expect no problem is insane. I am so over the rentals in my neighborhood. The 16 person occupancy also has a sand Volleyball court and a basketball court in the back yard. It’s like being at the beach every single weekend. I have called code on this house At least 50 times. Nothing ever changes. And now that will leave their trash out? I suppose that is a better option than throwing it over the fence into the neighbors yard. SMH.
Mike Rotman
Lorie Linn Funny one of my friends wanted to buy a similar house with all these great fun outdoor things- I told him not to as it's not fair to the neighbors and he doesn't want to have to deal with that all the time.
Dee Levey
Lorie Linn and I'm willing to bet the large majority of the rentals that you're having problems with in your neighborhood are being run by management companies like big bear vacations or cool cabins?
Lorie Linn
Dee Levey Destination Big Bear rules Fox Farm. 😩
Dee Levey
Lorie Linn uggggg,I'm sorry😥
Lorie Linn
Dee Levey me too!
Jey Allen
Wow, just read this whole thread, so it seems to me that this could affect the livelihood of hundreds of house cleaners up here, I take it that if you wanted to clean these properties you would have to be contracted by ONLY these companies or employed by them, also only accepting whatever pay rate they offer ?,also seems to violate many privileges of property ownership, kind of like a Community Association for all of Big Bear where you have to follow their rules or what, they can penalize you or some dictatorial BS
Dana DuVall
Government over reach.
Debi Ruh
You go Dee. Get ‘em!!!!
Greg Benson
Sounds like Socialism to me. Biden still hasnt won yet!!!!! WTF!!!!!

Class action lawsuit might be coming down the Pike. What happened to the Capitalist country I grew up in? Even Big Bear!
Lorie Linn
Greg Benson I think this is the only thing that will give us peace.
Edward Webb
Dee Levey guys, dosent the current 2007 ordinance require a manager or owner to have a business or live within 15 miles of bbl?
Dee Levey
Edward Webb yes sir and most property owners that use their the property as a vacation rental have Representatives that live locally that work directly for them. as in my case I work directly for the owner. I'm a 24/7 compliance agent registered in Big Bear Lake and I follow all the rules on behalf of the owner and he also has cameras on outside of property so it's monitored. We've never had one complaint in the 3 years that I've been working for the gentleman. I am blessed to work for a responsible owner who cares about me and cares about my well-being as well as the well-being of his guests, and surrounding neighbors.
Lorie Linn
Dee Levey cameras are a great idea. Maybe sound monitors as well. I love when I call code and they tell me they drove by and didn’t hear a thing.
Edward Webb
You satisfy the current ordnance. That change in the ordinance in 2007 is why I had to have a local agent for all these years. While it is true that most the businesses that have responded and questioned this new ordinance are very good at what they do, there are just way too many who do not pay attention to detail and cut corners which makes it harder for the rest of us. Hard to say, but I do believe they will work with us.
Dee Levey
Yeah the cameras are really helpful and they're not intrusive they're posted right above the front door so that we can see the comings and goings so that we are certain of the exact number of guests that are staying in the rental and we can identify them as the people who actually made the reservations, and checked in,not them antenna their closest friends that waited around the corner until I left, lol. even though with all this covid it's very impersonal. I have to stand at least 6 feet away from them wearing a mask at all times,so talking is hilarious especially if the guests have an accent, but I get it done, lol. Then I direct them to the key box and the rules and then I have to wait outside because we have them go in and inspect the rental so that if there's anything unacceptable they can tell me right then and there, otherwise I leave and wish them a great vacation, Anatole on camera and it sure saves a lot of hassles with the dishonest guests that claim they never showed up or they showed up and everything was terrible and they don't feel right and they want their money back you name it they try to pull it and the camera helps me not have to deal with much of that anymore. I have the option to look at my telephone anytime I want and see exactly what's going. And it's come in handy so many times. I thought seriously about writing a book of all the different things I've experienced in vacation property management and housekeeping over the years. 🤣I recommend the little cameras to anybody really, they're great and they're so inexpensive, these little ones work off of solar so the battery is constantly being recharged and we have the ability to look back on different dates unlike some of them that only record 24 hours and then it's gone and then they record the next 24 hours... this one isn't like that.
Todd Churchill
Dee Levey actually cameras can be very intrusive to the neighbors. The vacation rental next to me has a camera pointed directly at my deck my living room my kitchen. They say it doesn’t work on seeing my home but just walking out on my deck the red light comes on. The difficulties in this situation are not just the rights of the homeowner who rents their property but also the neighbors who are right next to them Who deals with daily noise and trash they toss around and even the people even on their property.
Yes I sympathize with people having rights to use their property as a choose. But the rules and regulations have to consider the neighbors to.
Nobody should feel they are living in a motel/ Hotel Nearly 365 days a year.
Dee Levey
Todd Churchill that is not the case in my situation. Our cameras in no way point toward or offend any neighbors.nor have I ever in 3yrs of handling the property had any complaints. There is no "red lights" that go off,the camera can not film around the corner toward anyone except those entering our front door. Noise and trash have never been an issue. Your issue/situation has nothing to do with mine. You need to deal with your issues and realize All situations are different. Myself and the gentleman I work for take our responsibilities seriously.

Ron Tello Culley
Does this topic require a firehose? I can buy one online and take delivery by January 12. We good?
Dee Levey
Ron Tello Culley no my friend,no firehose, just common sense. "Choosing" to live in a dual resort community comes with all the bells and whistles of "resort living". Those who consciously "choose" to live in a resort community need to educate themselves and realize tourism is what feeds resort communities. If individuals do not like the resort life style, which is indeed their right, then they should not "choose" a resort community as their home. Big Bear has been a resort community for MANY,MANY,years. It's not like this is something new.
And on the other side of that coin, consideration needs to be given regarding housing. There needs to be a fair balance of vacation rentals, versus full time rentals. The only way to create a balance is to set a percentage of the number of "single family home" vacation rentals allowed in our valley. Our powers that be approve the vacation rentals, whether run by management companies or owner self management. The rentals are inspected and approved thru local code enforcement. 24/7 compliance agaents, like myself, are also registered thru the city. (Those that try to fly under the radar don't succeed for very long). The powers-that-be make money off of ALL vacation rentals, currently a minimum of 11%. So,I'm sure I don't have to tell you the more vacation rentals, the more money "they" make. The blame lies in the management of our community,NOT the management of vacation rentals. Owners do a far better job at managing their vacation rentals than a large majority of the "management companies" up here. Too much GREED equals a mismanaged community. The powers-that-be and the management companies,(other than a select few),are NOT concerned with the full time residents, their concern is filling their own pockets and the pockets of their little inner circle. Oddly our city council, city manager, city planner, and mayor work for us,but some where along the line they have been allowed to drop that ball in a big way. Seems No one benefits but them, and when they are held accountable the deflection game starts😉
Victoria Lauren
I totally agree, but if someone does need a hands on management company up here PM me
Wendy Clouser
Such Bs .can't see how legal.
Dee Levey
Wendy Clouser it's not. I'm sure they hope no one will attend their worthless meeting that is "in person" only so that yet again they can slip another ridiculous illegal ordinance through the cracks before anybody is the wiser😡 what's another lawsuit to them? they already have so many🤮
