ACCC drops eBay probe after payment changes

The ACCC will drop its current inquiries into eBay's payment policies. However, this does not restrict the ACCC from reviewing the effects of eBay or PayPal's conduct in Australia if it raises competition concerns in the future, the regulator said.

smee,

What are you talking about? That Australian article says:

"From July 14, eBay will require sellers to offer at least one of three safe payment methods -- PayPal, Paymate and merchant credit cards."

And, it took long enough to bring them to heel; but, I'll bet that PayPal still has the default radio button and will still be at the top with flags flying ...

Proposed BBC Radio1 report on shill bidding fraud on UK online auctions

Following the recent conviction in the UK of Paul Barrett for shill bidding fraud on eBay online auctions—the first person to be so convicted in the UK for such fraud (no thanks to eBay, as usual)—BBC Radio1 wants to do a report on this form of online fraud in the UK in the very near future.

The reporter (Dan Whitworth) would like to hear from any UK residents that believe that they have been the victim of such criminal activity and are prepared to contribute their experience to the report.

Note: Dan is not an eBay user and, as a journalist, this may be just another story to him but the opportunity to help him do such a report is to good to pass up. If anyone from the UK is reading this thread or if anyone knows anyone in the UK that has experienced shill bidding, they are invited to contact this reporter.

Is Juvenile Behavior Becoming the Norm on eBay?

Despite all of eBay CEO John Donahoe's efforts to make eBay into a more retail-like experience, eBay has gotten much more contentious, pitting buyer against seller. It's difficult to imagine this scenario playing out on any other ecommerce website.

Porn dealers outsmart eBay

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/458438/porn-dealers-outsmart-ebay

Amateur pornography is being sold on eBay by backyard dealers posing as second-hand clothing sellers.

A special ninemsn investigation has found dozens of members on the world's largest auction website are selling hardcore videos and graphic pictures to interested buyers.

Some sellers are even using the lure of pornography to secure higher bids for their items, which can easily be found using the website's search engine.
