Ebay the tin foil hat area
« on: June 09, 2009, 11:32:54 AM »

There seems to be some that are very paranoid on the ebay forums and don’t seem to have a clue about how the Internet actually works.

I responded to what seemed to be a very paranoid post this morning from a poster that seemed to lack the most basic of understanding of how things actually worked on the net and someone took offence to it, funny how they can dish it out but have a huge issue with accepting facts.

Hello night-hawk-1,

Recently we became aware that your eBay registered account was involved in the
following activity:

Posting disruptive or hostile comments, including interpersonal disputes.

which is not permitted at eBay.

This is a copy of your post:

Good morning RT friends

Good morning to the paranoid also.

I should take up selling tin foil hats on eBay as there seems to be a
very large market for them here.

I wonder how these people think this so called personal info is collected?

The only group I know of that collect buyers/sellers info is a very
large power seller that has been known to buy from other posters just
to collect contact info and the PS is not even a member on that other
site.

One has to question what they actually fear, is it simply a case of sour grapes?

Do they really think that posters will return to ebay forums en mass if this site fails?

In my opinion the ebay forums have been ruined and will never be a shaddow of what they were.

The help boards are now useless and only the CS board has any thing to offer its posters in the way of light hearted fun.

Hi ya Imp I just can’t believe how some can be so paranoid and have so little understanding about how the Internet actually works.

I am shocked at the ignorance of some.

Perhaps these are the people who should turn off their computers, disconnect from the net and get a tin foil hat.

Hi ya Yibida it seems they are not content with just stuffing up the help boards,

they have followed posters to the only thread left on the ebay boards that has the old Rt crew posting just to stir and harass, then they go on about letting things go.

It appears to me that they are the ones that can’t let it go and do all they can to keep the crap stirred up.

Pathetic small people that seem to think they are of some importance, when all they are is a pain in the bum, nuisance value.

Hear hear Hawky.  I also cannot understand why they are so obsessed with us.

Didn't one rather sharp member tell us all to go and find our own site if we didn't like the way the ebay fora had become?

And so when we take their advice,  they are still not happy sending spurious mocking posts after midnight when they think noone is watching and deadly nail file infested IP missiles aimed at our proxy server at all hours and from all corners, to attack this site.

They join the site with intention to troll and lay in wait until they can point out some perceived inadequacy or weakness on our part.   They feverishly and obsessively work their way through all our posts and then vomit up a twisted stinking spin on the Aus ebay site.

Instead of attending to their ebay business and attending to RL, they inhabit the small remnant of the murdered RT existing in a single thread on the CS and descend in orchestrated droves to disrupt and disturb the peace.

Hey - isn't being so obsessed a sign of mental problems?

Occasionally people find themselves posting nastiness or inciting nastiness... and then of course there is strong disagreement... There's a significant gap between the two.

I find it bizarre that somehow there is an idea that we cannot disagree with each other... For instance, I'd rather see arguments here than malicious niceness. I don't like sugar-coated meanness. I simply shrug at the antics of those who use ignorance and misleading blanket statements and sweet concerned little suggestions in order to perpetuate their acts of malice.

I won't check the eBay forums, so I know nothing about what is being posted there. As far as I'm concerned, let those who like posting there do so. And let those who like posting here do so. And if there are any who like posting both there and here, let them do so. The world is big enough for a great many people with a great many different ideas and different acquaintances and different points of view...

(Is that silly rumour about private information being collected here still being perpetuated? Weird. What do they imagine we do? Send rain-coated spies following the members?)

Countess I have asked them a number of times where they think any infomation they claim that is collected actually comes from.

When all that is required to join in nothing more than a made up ID and an email address, what personal information does anyone with more than half a brain think can be extraced from that?

Are they really that stupid that they think those things can provide personal info in some way.

I have a raincoat and am an excellent lurker.  ;D

It would be preferable to see people debate their differing points of view and to see them agree to disagree.Adults should be able to receive constructive criticism and to discuss said criticism in a mature manner.

I appreciate ascerbic wit, humour and fun. I loathe any malicious, incorrect statement/innuendo which is designed to create damage.

PARANOIA
A developing pattern of unfounded thoughts and fears, often based on misinterpretation of actual events. People with paranoia may consider themselves endowed with unique and superior abilities or may have the delusion that others are conspiring to do them harm.

Just had a read of the RT thread. So someone actually stated that a mod on here is tracking IP addresses then putting it all in a spreadsheet with other personal data and profiling?

First issue there, usually only an admin would have access to IP data  and names and addresses anyway. A mod just gets added access on the forums to be able to move/delete/edit posts and few other similar things.

Looks to me that they don't understand it at all so are clutching at straws now with really bad understanding of basically everything.

Tin hats all round please!

Hi ernest....,

First issue there, usually only an admin would have access to IP data  and names and addresses anyway.

no names or addresses are required to join this site...no personal info is requested or stored...nothing that identifies anyone.....so, what is paranoia?  or more appropriately, what is malicious gossip?.

You only need to consider who it is generating this negative propaganda, to see that this person has a personal agenda....and perhaps could use some quiet introspection, and failing that...there's always formal therapy.

Is the individual who's concerned about IP addresses aware that every time he/she visits any website at all, his/her IP address is noted? Does he/she realise that using the internet in any way leaves electronic footprints? Perhaps the internet isn't really the place for that individual if he/she doesn't understand this very basic concept. IP information in itself does not provide identification and every forum - EVERY SINGLE FORUM - and every homepage, every Tweet and Twitter and Twaddle site, every site with any content whatsoever, irrespective of what content that is - EVERY SINGLE SITE has IP information pertaining to those who browse those sites.

Again: EVERY SINGLE WEBSITE in the world has IP information pertaining to those who visit the sites.

Of course if handed to law enforcement agencies in the event of an IP being identified as involved in criminal activity occurring on a website, and co-operation is asked for by the authorities, the proper law enforcement agencies can use that information to help to identify the criminal. Is that what's worrying the individual concerned?

This just seems bizarre! It's like a person walking into someone's home and objecting to the homeowner being unable to avoid seeing how tall the person is. It's like someone walking along the footpath and objecting to passersby noting that he or she is walking there.

Afternoon all.

I think it's great that those few delusional people on the Ebay forums continue to denigrate this web site. It is excellent advertising as others who may not have been aware of the existence of OZ Round Table in the past pop into have a look. Many of these visitors like what they see & join up.

After they join up they find that none of the rot & lies, being propagated by a few spiteful Ebay posters, exist.
