The keys were stolen by a ten-foot chicken. We chased him for hours; finally, in a blind alley, we cornered him and, with the help of a mysterious Colonel in white, we wrested the keys from him.

<serious mode>Well, the truth is that a minor edit to improve functionality led to a major glitch with an error hiding somewhere like a lurking termite - and that major glitch meant that the forum threw a number of errors, rendering it inaccessible. We've been working on it all day, and we're inexpressibly relieved that finally, finally, finally the problem was narrowed down.

Because we'd performed a forum backup before the edit, we were able to restore the forum to the point just before things went pear-shaped.

I'm now going to give myself some of the mango and passionfruit swirl icecream which I bought in expectation of our finally fixing the problem.

A ten foot chicken eh?   As long as it wasn't a 10 foot duck.  I would hate to think one of my relatives was causing trouble.

Yes, there's nothing worse than knowing the FBI have your posts and have made them disappear into some dark dank cellar somewhere, interrogating them to find out where it's safe.

    Szell: Is it safe?
    Babe: You're talking to me?
    Szell: Is it safe?
    Babe: Is what safe?
    Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: I don't know what you mean. I can't tell you something's safe or not, unless I know specifically what you're talking about.
    Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Tell me what the "it" refers to.
    Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: Yes, it's safe, it's very safe, it's so safe you wouldn't believe it.
    Szell: Is it safe?
Babe: No. It's not safe, it's... very dangerous, be careful.

No, just the classic "dentist" dialogue from Marathon Man, a film that still gives me chills when I watch it.

Hello, Smee - separate and longer hello in the other thread. *hurries over to the other thread*

Yibida, Marathon Man is a classic caught-and-questioned what-the-heck-is-going-on film starring Laurence Olivier and Dustin Hoffman. Olivier plays one of the most chilling roles of his career, and there are some very memorable lines.

By the way, what did you think of the latest Star Trek film? Not strictly canon, but good nonetheless?

I am finding I have to wait a little while when I open a topic or click reply. Just wondering if that is happening to anyone else ? I always clear cookies/cache etc..

I have to wait about 10 or more seconds now, but the emoticons seem as normal...probably Bigpond :( I usually just click on eg. Post /Reply etc.and no waiting.

Must have been a long hard day for everyone today. They deserve a  :wine:...lots!!!

I've had a less than enthusiastic day myself - trudging along - but I have had it easy compared to the 'mechanics' here.

Countess - I do hope you enjoy the ice-cream - I gained half a kilo just thinking of it!

Again, well done, guys.

Hi everyone Hi smee...great to see you here....I'll tell you all a little secret....we have a secret weapon you know.......it's called the <PRIMAL SCREAM MODE>..........when all else fails, we let out one hell of a PRIMAL SCREAM.......scares the heck of of any glitch.  Fixed it in no time didn't it countess?  Just like bashing the car with a tyre iron.

Oh, and Yib......The Marathon Man is famous for that line countess was quoting....'Is it Safe'?.   Austar show it every now and then on movie greats.    Reminds me of the scene in the Conspiracy Theory with Mel Gibson....now, he knows, now he knows.....hehehehe.

For many days now I have experienced a "wait" of about 12 seconds when posting for the first time in a session...

After that, all other post in the session have the usual refresh rate of about 2 seconds.

 :wine:

And it still is (doncha love the modify feature)

And don't forget it's 'Net Slow Sunday' here in Australia. Always happens when the last day of a billing month is on a Sunday - lots of dudes and dudettes eating up the last of their monthly net allowance making it slow! Usually very obvious on an Optus connect especially :).

We don't just have Net Slow Sunday in our house, we'll have slow days now till the end of our billing month (4th) because one son has, yet again, used 60Gb of downloads and our plan slows to dial-up speed until our new month!

I don't know what is happening. We are nowhere near our download limit, OH tells me. All "housework"  done all the time and I don't have anything much on this laptop. I also use CCleaner occasionally.

Only time there is slowing down is if there has been quite a lot of downloading and then I slow down to what is happening now. We are with Bigpond. This has just begun to occur Friday evening.

Oh well, I will just watch the little blue circle go round and round and grab OH tomorrow and have him look. It is sure to be me ;D  :kisshug:

I love the "Modify" ....Have tried it several times ;D

Just adding....I have a delay of six or so seconds when I click to go to eg page 2 etc. and have to click on anything twice before it decides to do anything, including log in and out... Waaaah!

How do I make sure my connection runs at optimum speed?

Firstly go here test your speed - http://www.speedtest.net/ then compare it, speedtest will rate you.

What is Speedtest.net?

Use Speedtest.net to test the speed of your Internet connection. See if you are getting what you pay for or share your results with others!

After the initial test, click on:
How do your results stack up when compared to others?, on the speedtest page

No matter how fast your Internet connection is, there are times when things will slow down to a crawl. This article will help you sort out what kinds of things can go wrong, learn what you can do about them, and discover how to get the most from your Internet connection.

Not sure if it's the charcoal in my diet - but I never seem to fart in here.  Besides, it is rather impolite - especially within such confined spaces.

Fluffy, I think your mum has picked up on the incident I have already described elsewhere. For me it was unfortunate timing, location and an unflattering noise - no more potent than a whoopee cushion.  And even that noise was because of the distracting antics of Riff and Imp - not watching where I was going.

Here am I worrying about the night goggles bit - and I'm getting curry for a fart I didn't do. There is no justice in this world.
