Westpac customers left without money after overnight payments fail

Thousands are without pay, pensions today after glitch
Processing delays between Westpac and other banks
Westpac customers won't incur extra fees, says bank

A WESTPAC computer failure has left thousands of people without access to their money this morning.

Payments in and out of Westpac accounts failed to process overnight with a number of customers telling heraldsun.com.au this morning their disability pensions, due to be paid today, had not been transferred into their accounts.

Westpac communications manager Paul Marriage said the bank had experienced delays overnight with processing some payments to and from other banks.

He could not confirm if Centrelink payments were included in the delays.

“Obviously we’ve mobilised additional resources to restore these payment services as soon as possible, in the meantime customers can continue to make payments throughout the day but there will be some delays on them,” Mr Marriage said.

He said Westpac customers would not incur extra fees as a result of the delay.
