A LOOPHOLE Myer plans to use to beat international rivals will be subject to intense scrutiny from the Federal Government.

Myer chief executive Bernie Brookes said yesterday the department store planned to import goods bought online and worth less than the $1000 GST-free threshold to allow customers to avoid paying the tax.

From February, Myer's customers using its website will be able to buy about 1000 goods priced under the threshold because they are sent directly from China to the customer.

bnwt, maybe it's all just a PR exercise to try and get the Government to tighten up the GST on imports through online sales.
