Where to post a new topic
« on: April 28, 2009, 02:08:59 PM »
I have a suggestion!  Mind you - it is only a suggestion so please do not throw anything at me.

Would it be reasonable to ask anyone starting a thread which is not e-bay related to post the topic in the Courtyard?  That would mean that ebay related matters stay on the round table and anything else of a more general nature - recipes, garden club threads - could be on posted in the Courtyard or around the Fountain?

This is NOT a dig (not even the garden club lol) at anyone I can assure you, and I am not stirring the pot for the Cook's Corner lol but seems to be that it would make locating information a little easier :)

Could we have some input please?

It's something we'll be focusing on addressing - to help everyone find the sort of information they need and the sort of threads they like. Good suggestion, Mtnlane!

Countess, can I also suggest another board 'Welcome' that can cover - Posting Guidelines, How To on this site (explain features and how to change prefs, set time, insert pics, not panic about seeing email envelope), Introduce yourself etc etc

Great - keep the suggestions coming. Over the next few weeks, you will see implementations.

Hi Laney, I haven't taken offence, I was just trying to make the first port of call look welcoming to all ebay members those who posted in CW as well as those who only ever visited the ebay related forums.

I won't be offended if they get moved, promise :)  but it might look a little sterile if it is all business?

Personally, I think all of the chatter threads should be in the Courtyard and the main RT should be mostly business.

But what do I know?

We'll be looking for the best solution to create warmth, welcome and helpfulness on eBay subjects. Don't worry - everyone's input is going to be important in this to work out the perfect structure.

Thanks, Countess  :thanks:

Also, could the admins send out a reminder to anyone who wants to copy info off the old RT. It is only supposed to stay archived for a month - the final day must be near.

I can see what Laney (& others ) are saying but I wouldn't want the RT page to go to just all business. I would like to see a little mix between business and a few other things - like the "original" (you know what I'm like!). More general chat ones, sure - in the other sections.

Can we post petitions there about ebay things when the time is right? You know the time will come - just a matter of when.

I think the current subtitle for the RT may confuse some though "All discussions - eBay-related consumer-to-consumer topics, online auctions, general discussion"

I have another suggestion..............can we lock Laney in a dark cupboard?

I shall go and  :chair: now ..............just in case  :roflmao:

Would that be an ebay cupboard, set in "medium" to grow mushrooms, Laney?

sorry Numb, but I dont want it to be like the ebay aus boards, thats why we are all here isnt it? To get away from the sterile business only threads, and we didnt like the fact we had to keep going to other pages (like CS) to have a friendly chat?

Everyone's input is going to help make this the best possible structure. Don't worry - it will work (and there will be no 20-post limits!).

I'm in two minds about this. The old RT was all eBay related with chatter filtering into those threads also, which made it friendly, whereas this is tending to be more of a combined RT/CW board all in one which does make the "business" topics harder to find.

I don't think separating the business and social topics would make it sterile like the new au boards because of that chatter. Plus I agree it is convenient not having to switch boards.

On the other hand, this setup is much easier to navigate due to not having a multitude of boards with a gazillion subforums and does make it easier to know where things are and how to get there so at the end of the day, after business is taken care of, it's easy to go to Courtyard for an "after work drink" and wind down with socialising.

Plus, I've put info here which is available to the general public, which in a perfect world I'd rather it be available to members only. (But that's my issue).

Does any of that make sense? I know what I mean anyway lol.

Golden Silence, good thinking - all of these ideas are valuable because they show us how people perceive the setup and what they think might be better, easier, safer, more comfortable, etc.

I can see both sides (though turning head is a problem) LOL

I think what some are looking at, is what is visible to general Joe without signing up. ie: If the RT were business only, without a general friendly nature to be seen, many will just "walk away". Friendly "stuff" may get hidden on the other boards (as they are not open to public view).

Does that make sense? Maybe even just until the place is properly established and gets a good name for itself........

I can see both sides too col.

Just another thought - a little bit of marketing to tempt unregistered readers - perhaps a thread pinned to the top of the Round Table (which unregistered visitors can read) explaining that the Courtyard is available for registered members.  You could title the thread - WHAT AM I MISSING OUT ON IF I DO NOT REGISTER? and then include a small sample of the current threads (just as an teaser).

Anyway - it is another though as I pass through on my way out to the RL.

Have a good day all :)

P.S. - In my haste I have not checked to see whether this information is already pinned so please forgive me if I am repeating information already contained on the Round Table.
