Re red telephone booths - yes, UK was where they began, but both Australia and New Zealand had their own design of red telephone boxes inspired by the UK ones.

The phrase not happy, Jan has now firmly established its place in Australian English. It began its career in 2002 in a television advertisement for the Yellow Pages. At the beginning of the advertisement the boss of a company is flicking through the newly-arrived Yellow Pages and can’t find the advertisement for her company. The advertisement was to have been placed by the employee Jan, who missed the deadline. In response to her boss’s loud question about what happened to the advertisement, Jan flees the building. The boss opens an upstairs window and yells Not happy, Jan after the hapless, fleeing Jan.

Almost every home in Australia has a Hills Hoist.

Australia has such terrific weather...so as to allow drying of washed items in the sun and wind.

Nothing like putting fresh sheets on the bed...straight off the line....*sigh

We had a pair like those at the top. Around our place they were used for cutting grass - just path edges and up against the fence (before line trimmers). We had a Victa for the larger areas!
