I haven't caught up after my absence. It has been an exhausting and fun time, but has meant I was away from my computer, and I have to try and catch up with what you have all been up to.

My New Year resolution...Never Volunteer.... for anything ...even when begged on bended knee!!! Even when inducements are offered (Chocolate).

Together with Ewok and Loco, that makes three people whose presence I have been missing.

Centuries, about volunteering... I find myself nodding in agreement. I know I've driven myself too far frequently, and I have tended to take on too many things, but I'm going to follow the same resolution you have. Volunteering has got to be reduced.

And by the avatar you're using, you're STILL too frazzled by all the demands on your time! (*adds one more demand: Spend More Time Here!*)

Hope all is well and the heat isn't too much for all you lucky people.

Countess mattress anywhere will do -fed up of freezing - think we should arrange some sort of exchange between us all - when you're fed up with the heat you can exchange with one of us over here for a couple of weeks and vice versa - anyone think it a good idea

I was saying earlier today that I have GOT to get over to the UK for some serious traipsing around to see as many archaeological sites as possible. Not only that, but you get much better performances of opera, classical music, Shakespearean drama, etc., over there.

And on the architectural/ruins front - Penrith actually has it's very own ruined castle - admittedly it's not too much to look at but it's still our very own ruined castle

It did at one time but it really is ruins - if I can manage to get hold of a picture of it I'll put it on here - but I'm afraid there's ony a few walls left now. It's only about 1/2 mile from where I live in the centre of Penrith

If you see the mini roundabout top left of the top picture - you take the left hand exit to the next r/about 2nd exit off that down to the bottom of the hill and I live there

Don't see those up for sale very often...

I think I may have seen one on eBay - but I'm not sure. It was a do-it-yourself job, but came with plans. Apparently it was pick-up only as the shipping and handling cost was a bit steep - plus it would have been a bugga to wrap 2,500 half-tonne blocks of stone ....

We also have lots of beautiful restaurants here and locally for you to choose from

And yes we are lucky to live near the castle - but I think because we're always around it we tend to ignore it and don't appreciate it fully.
