Please join in Earth Hour 2011 this evening, 8.30 PM, Sydney time.
http://www.earthhour.org/Homepage.aspxEarth Hour involves turning off your lights for one hour (between 8.30 PM and 9.30 PM). It's a symbol of being willing to do something about climate change, or in my view it's more a symbol about willing to do something about power waste.
Whether or not you believe in climate change, we can probably all agree that most of us in the western world use far more resources than we actually need, and that our power consumption is more than we require.
As a symbol, therefore, please consider turning off your lights for an hour. It's a great excuse for using gorgeous candles, getting romantic, listening to music in the candlelight, talking with family or friends in the same room, etc.
I also believe it's a pointless gesture unless the television and computer stays off during that hour. Therefore, if you do turn off your lights, please do the same with other electricals.
It won't stop climate change, of course - and it won't stop continued misuse of natural resources - but it is a symbol of our willingness to try something, at least.
I ask you not to post anywhere on these forums during that 1 hour period, but please come back and start using your electricity again as soon as the hour is up; start posting about how much good you did!
