As you may have heard, the receivers of Dick Smith Electronics have stated that they won't be honouring gift cards or deposits.
(Mind you, this may not be the last word on the subject. I understand that the ACCC is speaking with the receivers at present and that this is one of the subjects that will be discussed.)
However, if you have purchased a gift card from Dick Smith Electronics (and still haven't used it), you do have a few options.
- If you purchased your gift card by credit card (or by some debit cards), ask your bank to do a chargeback. (http://www.afr.com/business/retail/customers-with-dick-smith-gift-vouchers-advised-to-call-their-banks-20160105-glznzj)
- If you purchased your gift card through the app Prezzee, (http://www.allsmileys.com/files/kolobok/connie/21.gif) email Prezzee (help@prezzee.com) and they will let you claim the value of the gift card against a gift card from one of its other partners.
:clickme: [...] savvy start-up Prezzee has done, announcing this morning that anyone who bought a Dick Smith gift card through its new app could claim its value against one a gift card from one of its other partners, such as Myer and Veronica Maine. (http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/retail/calls-for-coles-and-woolworths-to-refund-worthless-dick-smith-gift-cards/news-story/f27572f34a656c662a0a8516f6a13bee) - If your gift card is not too much more than $25, then :link: Kogan's offer to give you $25 of Kogan.com credit in a Gift Voucher swap (https://www.kogan.com/au/dick-smith-dicksmith/) could be a great option.
You could also register with Ferrier Hodgson (the receivers) as an unsecured creditor - but I don't much fancy your chances in that scenario... However, if you've no other recourse, you may as well register.
