Title: What happens to an item posted without a stamp?
Post by: *wheels* on April 14, 2010, 02:34:02 PM
Will Australia Post return it to the sender or deliver it with a Please Pay card?

I posted an envelope early this morning and have just found a loose stamp on my car seat! Not sure if the glue is dodgy or I didn't apply enough spit!

I remember that I once received once of those "Pay Now" cards in a similar situation... but I am not sure whether it's AP policy. I haven't found anything on the AP site, but if you want to call them on 13 11 18, you might be given a definite reply about it.

I've mailed a replacement, with stamp securely attached. I'm just pleased I found the loose stamp today and knew which envelope it must have come from.

The envelope may be sent to the recipient. They may have to pay to collect it....or they may not. ;D

The Australia Post may send a bill to the sender...again...they may not. ;D

Could end up going nowhere if no return address on it.

I had a choice of paying to receive or, refusing to accept a parcel ...but that was quite a few years ago.

My seller friend has a thing about that ... and they put a piece of sticky tape along an edge to make sure, especially for some of the plastic mailing bags available.

Apparently, that's OK with Australia Post - as long as there is a reasonable area of the stamp exposed so the ink from the cancellation stamp can reach it.

It could go either way depending on who's hands it ends up in, the sender could have a "More to Pay" to collect, or the sender recieves an invoice in the mail, if the senders details are available.

Oh, you've seen it! An update: no word from the addressee yet on whether they have received EITHER envelope! And it was only going a few suburbs away.
