The Proposed Carbon Tax..... here we go.
« on: December 01, 2010, 03:52:20 PM »
ALP, Greens split on carbon

LABOR and the Greens have split over emissions-reduction targets in a brawl that could force Julia Gillard to introduce an interim carbon tax.

Mr Combet said the government's target remained a cut of 5 per cent below 2000 levels by 2020

The Greens are pushing for carbon cuts of 25-40 per cent below 2000 levels by 2020.

I apologise in advance if what I say hurts the feelings of any Greens supporter... but...

... the Greens are numpties. Truly, I'm sorry, but equally, I'm sorry, it's true.

I heard an Australian climate scientist speaking recently. He stated that if Australia were to totally eliminate greenhouse substances/practises, the net gain in temperature reversal would be one-one thousandth of a degree. But.... our government thinks otherwise.... obviously, we're all wrong.

And yet.... in Russia, they are predicting the coldest winter in 1000 years. Lets see - global warming on the bottom.... global cooling on the top?

Now that makes a lot of sense... a new excuse for a new tax.  They aren't going to let that one slip by easily.

One also wonders if they might look a little more closely at the Periodic Table too.  I bet they could work up another dozen or two angles in a short space of time.

a new excuse for a new tax

That'd be right brum.... although, on previous form I'd suggest ANY excuse for a new tax!

The Periodic Table.....

How about Oxygen depletion
Or... Water (costs of this seem to climb daily..... now billed by the litre)
Or Salinity (That'll become a major concern for China - as they own a large amount of this country's farmland)

All they need really is imagination - and an audience willing to believe anything they're told.... without question. (BOHICA as Liisa calls it!)

I am usually not a conspirator however I see this tax as an effort to get the economy back into surplus as promised. Nothing more than that whatsoever. No amount of spin will convince me otherwise unless it is proven science. Oh and that goes for the mining tax as well. Nothing more than filling the empty coffers that were so repulsively wasted.

At first I thought this was funny......

Then I realized the awful truth of it.

Be sure to read all the way to the end!

Tax his land,
Tax his bed,
Tax the table
At which he's fed.

Tax his work,
Tax his pay,
He works for peanuts
Anyway!

Tax his cow,
Tax his goat,
Tax his pants,
Tax his coat.

Tax his tobacco,
Tax his drink,
Tax him if he
Tries to think..

Tax his car,
Tax his gas,
Find other ways
To tax his ass.

Tax all he has
Then let him know
That you won't be done
Till he has no dough.

When he screams and hollers;
Then tax him some more,
Tax him till
He's good and sore.

Then tax his coffin,
Tax his grave,
Tax the sod in
Which he's laid.

When he's gone,
Do not relax,
It’s time to apply
The inheritance tax.

Accounts Receivable Tax
Airline surcharge tax
Airline Fuel Tax
Airport Maintenance Tax
Building Permit Tax
Cigarette Tax
Corporate Income Tax
Goods and Services Tax (GST)
Death Tax
Dog License Tax
Driving Permit Tax
Environmental Tax (Fee)
Excise Taxes
Federal Income Tax
Fishing License Tax
Petrol Tax (too much per litre)
Health Tax
Hunting License Tax
Interest Tax
Liquor Tax
Luxury Taxes
Marriage License Tax
Medicare Tax
Mortgage Tax
Personal Income Tax
Property Tax
Poverty Tax
Prescription Drug Tax
Real Estate Tax
Vehicle Tax
Retail Sales Tax
Service Charge Tax
School Tax
Vehicle License Registration Tax
Vehicle Sales Tax
Water Tax
Watercraft Registration Tax
Well Permit Tax
Workers Compensation Tax

And Now Julia Gillard Wants a Carbon Tax !

STILL THINK THIS IS FUNNY?

Not one of these taxes existed 100 years ago, & our nation was one of the most prosperous in the world.. We had absolutely no national debt, had a large middle class, and Mum stayed home to raise the kids.

What in the "Hell" happened?

You know Ubbs.... It's not really funny - but laughable.

Remember when the GST was introduced how many taxes were going to be gone??? Well, there all still here, bigger and better, and we're about to have some more new ones!

Check out the wastage of the NSW State Government alone..... and guess who's paying for that.

Moonlight... I am usually not a conspirator however I see this tax as an effort to get the economy back into surplus as promised.

I don't have a problem with them attempting to bring our economy back either.... but as history teaches us - the taxes won't be dropped after that goal is achieved. There's some truth in the statement that "one shouldn't make promises that they can't keep" as well. But - it was an election year.... so I suppose that provides a convenient out. Win, at all costs - and the hell with the consequences.

As long as we let politicians have their head and sit back doing nothing, they get away with it.

I sometimes wonder WHY the general public just accept it, over and over and over, anyone see the "Countdown on Electricity prices" or whatever they called it in the Daily Telegraph, they made a big deal about calling out Keneally and demanding an answer... the countdown fizzled out and vanished halfway through despite being almost full page writeups daily, then it was just gone.

I even wrote to the paper asking what happened to it...no reply... (pressure from elsewhere I assume)

The soon to arrive NEW Electricity increase and the VERY soon to arrive Water cost increase barely got a whimper.

When people are living off tank water and rationing water, and using pedal powered Electricity generators because they can't afford utilities and fuel do you think they will wonder if they should have spoken up? lol

When most people are burning solid fuel for heating in winter, because they cannot afford heating will the politicians send out Carbon police in brightly marked cars to fine people if they see a whiff of smoke, ala water police?

It's all getting so ridiculous.... the carbon tax is a RORT, nothing more nothing less.

The thing that really irks is the fact that while I was aware that AGL (Electricity) were permitted to 'Guesstimate' my electricity bill twice a year, it seems they 'guesstimate' EVERY bill!!!  I was a little sneaky and had placed tape with pencil guidelines over my meter cover in 2 places that would be hard to see and not noticed if the cover was removed BUT would enable me to see if it had been removed, guess what....that tape has NOT been disturbed in over 2 years, it is absolute BS when we pay for a service per KWH and they GUESS.

The excuse from AGL was they use contractors and have no power over them or how they conduct readings...wait...what??  I want to pay for what I USE not for what they THINK I use! I had a LARGE pool running in the past and paid for the privilege, now it is in an unusable state and thus not using electricity , however I am still paying to RUN a pool because they 'guess'...Grrrr

Imagine running a business based on 'guessed' fees.....funny eh?

Can you take a reading of the meter yourself, Liisa?

You can then compare the ACTUAL reading with what they are charging you.

If you don't know the date when they are calculating their charges, take a reading every couple of weeks and keep notes.  When the bill comes in, you will be able to use those figures to average out your usage to come up with an approximate reading for the date they specify.

Then compare with the 'reading' they cite.

I bought one of the $20 ones from Jaycar a couple of months ago so I could monitor consumption and power factor of some computer equipment in order to make informed decisions about UPS's.

Aldi had the same thing on sale about 2 or 3 weeks ago for about $15 each.

The units Poddy has put forward are excellent for monitoring anything you plug into a standard power point - but can't be used for lighting, hot water or stove circuits - nor for any other fixed wiring circuits nor 15 Amp or 20 Amp power points.

For total household consumption, you will need to learn to read your meter. (There was an excellent guide to how to read the old fashioned 'dial' meters posted here somewhere..)

I'll do some googling Equine one :)

Brumbles, on this occasion you are mistaken, both of the units I have sited have a 'Clamp Detector' and measure the current in the wire that you put the current transformer around. If it were put around the main input wire feeding the meter box it would measure the total power flowing in that wire.
Liisa if you have a Jaycar store near you I would suggest that you went and had a chat to one of the techos :)

My apologies!

Clamp metering is the way to go - and with the ability to handle more than one phase, I am impressed.  My only concern would be finding the space to fit the sensor around the required cable.

But, then again, there is already a meter in the box - and one that the electricity supplier will accept as accurate.  Just learn how to read that and you won't need to step foot outside your front gate.

Alarmist Doomsday warning of rising seas 'was wrong', says Met Office study

By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 8:13 AM on 6th December 2010

Alarming predictions that global warming could cause sea levels to rise 6ft in the next century are wrong, it has emerged.

The forecast made by the influential 2007 Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, which would have seen cities around the world submerged by water, now looks ‘unlikely’.

A Met Office study also rules out the shutdown of the Atlantic Ocean’s conveyor belt, which would trigger Arctic winters in Britain like those seen in the film The Day After Tomorrow.

Only in the movies: A Met Office study rules out the shutdown of the Atlantic Ocean's conveyor belt, which would trigger Arctic winters in Britain like those seen in the film The Day After Tomorrow (pictured)

However, the report says the IPCC was right to warn of a sea level rise of up to 2ft by 2100, and that a 3ft rise could happen.

The IPCC underestimated the danger posed by the melting of the Greenland ice sheet and the release of methane from warmer wetlands, the report adds.

Vicky Pope, head of climate science at the Met Office, said: ‘In most cases, our new understanding has reinforced results from the IPCC report – and the degree of impact is about the same.’

The 2007 analysis was criticised last year after it was found to have wrongly claimed Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035.

The Met Office analysis comes as world ministers fly to Cancun, Mexico
