Westpac Bank - fake emails being sent
« on: April 21, 2010, 11:29:52 AM »
I've seen an increase in Westpac emails being sent to some email addresses. The very latest email (arrived this morning) is as follows:

Quote
PROTECTING YOUR ACCOUNT

We want to assure you that your accounts and your assets are safe with us.

We put the utmost value on our relationship with you as our valued customer.

As part of our efforts to meet the requirements of the Financial Services Authority we now ask all Westpac bank users,
to verify their account information. It's a smart and simple way to add an additional layer of protection to your account.

Please use the link below to proceed and verify your account:

Thank you for your continued patronage.

Accounts Management As outlined in our User Agreement, Westpac will
periodically send you information about site changes and enhancements.

The link, needless to say, does NOT lead to Westpac Online, but rather to a scamming site.

DO NOT CLICK THE LINK.

The originating IP of the email is 69.61.101.157, in the United States.

If anyone's interested in the forged email header, please let me know and I will email it to you.

By the way, did I say... DO NOT CLICK THE LINK...?
