How to unblock a blocked buyer
« on: December 04, 2010, 07:41:25 PM »
I have set up a rule that does not allow buyer to buy from me if they have two unpaid item strikes in the last 6 months.
Occasionally, customers contact me wanting to buy but can't.  Sometimes it's a genuine mistake.
Understand that sometimes sellers take the sale off ebay (which is not OK) but I seem to recall there a way to disable this rule for one customer without having to go into your listing and change the rule?  Any Ideas?

Admin: Can this be post be moved to the read only board so I can find it again if it contains good info?
Thank you.

earthmother, go to your Buyer Activity Log and tick the box next to the buyer and then click Exempt

In your My eBay > Account > Site Preferences > Selling Preferences > Buyer Requirements
Click Show and you'll see a link to your Activity Log

When I find useful links or pages I add them to my Shortcuts module in MyeBay.

Just click Edit Shortcuts, enter a Name and the URL and click Add

Hey everyone
Thanks for the answers and useful tips.
Thanks for the laughs too.

By the way, what is a TWAT exactly?

As for the suggestion to move the post: each time I ask a question I try a couple of searches to see if it's been asked before... I know how boring it must be to repeat yourself and it's just a suggestion to make life easier for the active members holding alot of knowledge.  I'm just a newbie trying to come up to speed. :thanks:

Is there any merit in starting a sellers forum for the exchange of useful marketing ideas?

So I did this (thank you):

earthmother, go to your Buyer Activity Log and tick the box next to the buyer and then click Exempt

In your My eBay > Account > Site Preferences > Selling Preferences > Buyer Requirements
Click Show and you'll see a link to your Activity Log

And got alot of asterisks instead of user ID's where the asterisks mean:
Quote
* Note that eBay cannot disclose certain User IDs in the Buyer Requirements Activity Log in accordance with our Privacy Policy and User Agreement.

I am assuming that there's a preference that buyers have set up to make their purchasing private or could this be something I've done (because I think I've set up that people's purchases are anonymous when they leave me feedback - somewhere in the quagmire of My eBay)... lordy

Sorry, earthmother, I've just checked my Buyers Log and the buyers who have been blocked because of too many unpaid item strikes have their IDs hidded. Buyer IDs will still show if they are blocked for other reasons, eg live in other countries, not verified.

To get around this, you can add the buyer's user ID to your Exemption List

Go to your Buyer Requirements page and click on Buyer Requirements Exemption List (top right)

In your My eBay > Account > Site Preferences > Selling Preferences > Buyer Requirements

http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?BuyerBlockPreferences

Here Wheels, I just did an 'E-waste' clean up (local council offer - free drop off!) and ditched 7 (functional) CRT monitors, so I have 7 spare 'n's (and some other letters as well).

It's really a sign of the times when you can't even give away a working CRT monitor.  One was a big 21" monster. Nice screen - but took up a lot of desk space.

Yes Brums, unfortunately with the introduction of new technology it is becoming harder to get rid of all the old stuff. Last year we had a couple of good, working computers, complete with monitor, keyboard, speakers, to dispose of and a lot of the charities didn't even want them unless they were only a couple of years old. We ended up contacting one of the venues that was used as a bushfire emergency relief centre and they were more than happy to accept them to keep for their own use or give away.

Oh, and if you're giving letters away, please send me a few. I have a few functions coming up and they're ones where I always have to mind my 'p's and 'q's.

We can certainly move this thread to the read-only section - or create a cut-and-paste version that isn't cluttered up with the "helpful"  :lmao: humorous asides. That would leave this thread intact.

Just a word of caution... The buyers who are blocked because of non-payment are a risk, as I understand it, because they've exhibited bad behaviour in the past and they seem often to rely on nice sellers permitting them to be excempt from their seller blocks. Of course you can sometimes gauge that a person has unjustified strikes - or you've decided to trust them - but remember that buyers are able to have strikes removed in many cases. It leaves me (at least) thinking that the buyers who STILL have strikes may well be repeat offenders.

With that in mind, it could be a good precaution to make sure that the purchased item is sent by registered mail only - just in case. It's sometimes not the dollar value that is important, but the peace of mind it gives you, knowing that the buyer isn't going to be able to claim "item not received" if it has in fact been received.

... And on a slightly different subject... I love the excemption list! I've been able to buy things from international sellers who don't normally sell to overseas customers.

Wheels - thank you.

Countessa - great advice I'll take on board.
Yes, perhaps a cut and paste without added funny bits would be most helpful.  Do I do this or do you?

callostemma - I looked up that word on urban dictionary

Yes one does need to exercise caution with someone who has been banned and make a judgement call on whether to exempt them or not.  I've had both results -

One buyer who I exempted was fine and paid with no hassles via bank deposit.

Another who messaged me begging me to lift the ban, decided the they hadn't read the ad closely enough and didn't want the item after all.

Hey Earth mother, I like your new avatar.  It looks very serene and peaceful.

Thanks FluffyDuckee - I like serene and peaceful... although ebay and paypal can certainly challenge one's ability to remain this way!
