Title: The prize for stupidest eBay statement ever!
Post by: *wheels* on May 18, 2010, 09:11:39 AM
from bnwt's News thread:

eBay UK: “we want buyers to leave more negs”

http://tamebay.com/2010/05/ebay-uk-we-want-buyers-to-leave-more-negs.html

Apparently eBay has removed the “are you sure? please contact your seller before leaving non-positive feedback” page when a buyer goes to leave negative feedback.

eBay's response:
The removal of the page presented to buyers attempting to leave negative or neutral Feedback is not a bug. The Feedback team have found is that this message was not effective and discouraged buyers from leaving Feedback. In fact, the majority of the buyers who encountered this page abandoned the Feedback process altogether. This page was removed from all eBay’s global sites during the month of March. By removing this page, we aim to encourage use of the Feedback system and enhance our ability to differentiate and promote sellers who consistently deliver the best experiences on eBay.

What a stupid statement! Do eBay want the buyers to leave a neg and walk away?

Buyers should HAVE to try and resolve their problem with sellers before leaving a neg. I have seen some comments left with neg feedback where I'm sure the seller would have replaced/refunded if only the buyer had contacted them about the problem. Problems can occur in online sales transactions. A negative should be a warning to other buyers that the seller will not resolve the problems when they do occur.

Ah Bugga!

Wheels - I thought this thread was about poster's statements regarding the high integrity and decency.... and consideration... and, well, soooo many other things that Ebay is good at! Blast! That could have been fun!  :peace:

You're quite safe wheels! I've printed out the "Are you sure" page. Frightens the beejeeeezus out of me when I re-read it... and I walk away from feedback alltobloodygether.  :bigcalibre:

The prize for stupidest eBay statement ever!

If you could box up these prizes and sell them on eBay - you would make a fortune.

Well Smee - you have to admit..... putting the words 'stupid' and 'eBay' in the same sentence is always going to be supported by ample discussion material.

yes Brumby , but you must remember eBay is run by Yanks and Business acumen is not one of their strong points ( actually , I am still struggling to find their strong points )
So I try not to dwell on their stipidness and work on having a system to beat their system or lack of system

Now that is a fact! Sooooo disappointed! I thought I'd got one right this time!

Good morning Yibs! I'll avoid posting pics for ya! Thinking of you at work..... mind you, it's raining here, dark and gloomy. But, it does make the screen easier to read, and the heater is on, and the cat's purring louder than an Ebay spin specialist..... come to think of it, I think I'm happy to be on a day off...... but I'm still thinking of ya!

Oh no... My blood freezes; it's hardened into a sticky and barely malleable marrow of terror.

The page. The page. The page. No no no nononono. The page. The words. "Are you sure?"

Are you sure?

Ah God! Deliver me from these points of wavering discontent! Do not leave me to drown in the cistern of my own uncertainties. Shall I neg? Please let me neg. Mon dieu, please, please, mein Gott, hilf' mir... Warum? Why? Why? Let me.

Now doubt has threaded its way into my neg-ready mind like a feast of maggots. Now I am beset by the worms of pausing... Have I contacted the seller? Please no. Please don't make me. Please. No. Please.

... and eBay hearkened to my terrors, yea, and have protected me... Joy is mine.

What's that supposed to mean?

it means g'day mate hows things ... good to see you ....etc etc .... its a greeting

What's that supposed to mean?

A formal greeting of this nature is often a sign of a good friendship. It's 'out of character' nature is most usually responded to with either:
 - a similarly formal acknowledgement, where both parties are just as easily taking the piss out of each other all in good fun
or
 - a comment like "get off the grass", where the respondant is challenging the greeting as though it were offered by some snooty tosser. Again, all in good fun.

Either way, it's no biggie - in fact it's a sign of confidence in communication with the other party.

However, if he had said something like "Good Evening Mr McDonald" - then you could nuke him for this inference....

He called me Ronald. It seems condescending. I just woke up and I am always super-cranky then.

It's too early for me to be here.

There might be a bit of a condescending flavour - but its the kind that expects it back or gets called out (like I said earlier).  It's kinda hard to explain via a forum - but if you were to watch a couple of Aussies greet each other like this, you'd pick it up straight away.

Go have a coffee and come back in 10.
