So what hope has a newbie got?

Exactly the amount that eBay has designed for them to have, ZILTCH.

Buyers are not ALLOWED to think, they are consumers FGS they should consume.

Of course, otherwise there would be a shortage of some things and a glut of others, there has to be equillibrium.

Have you taken your shot today??

I am still testing and conducting observations

when you relist an item it gets a much higher placement the second time around

but what really shoots your listing to the top is when you have a listing with say 5 of them available and one sells

that flings you pages ahead

of course a lot of items are single & unique so that wont apply

it also appears the word 'new' in the title scores points

BNWT, that puts sellers of antiques into a bit of a hole.

I know that there are some Asian sellers who won't scruple to say something like "NEW genuine ancient antique vintage blah blah blah"; it won't matter that the description is fraudulent and misleading, no matter how many times one reports it. It disadvantages the genuine sellers with genuine antiques who cannot possibly say "new" with regard to their items and keep a straight face.

And as you say, sellers with unique one-off items are stymied.
