Title: eBay Message system (+ Bunny's - eBay glitch mail)
Post by: mtnlane on April 28, 2009, 01:53:40 PM
Is anyone experiencing problems with ebay messages?  For example - I received a response last evening to a question I had asked a member ...... the response landed in my incoming mail but as yet does not appear on my ebay messages.  Some responses I receive directly to my incoming mail have the ebay header and some do not - should I be concerned?

Would appreciate input from you experienced folk thanks :-)

Laney, I got an email from Shane ♥ the other day and it never appeared in my eBay Inbox, just came through my normal email.

Hi Wheels

I got one from him also - and like you - it just appeared in my incoming mail - not through the eBay message system but then that was no doubt because I sent him mail outside the ebay system.  I was more concerned about responses from members not appearing in my ebay messages :)

Mtnlane, exactly the same thing has happened to me. I was very puzzled - I'd sent messages to a few sellers in France, and all of the replies arrived in my inbox except for one. That ONLY appeared in my email address. And now I'm not sure he's received my second message which is in effect a reply to his reply, because I need a final price before I go ahead with the purchase!

Countess - It is indeed puzzling.  I am confident that one of our knowledgeable members will be able to throw some light on the matter (without simply providing a LINK)  ;)

ROFL I noticed there is a lot of that happening on the ebay boards  at the moment lol.

Is it possible that the seller is hitting reply in their email and not responding through the ebay message system?

Tilly - I guess that is a possible explanation.  Is there any loss of security in doing that?

Lol Numb - you think that explains it all?  You are probably correct  :roflmao:

This is an email I sent Shane early December 2008:

Shane,

Further to our discussion about messaging system non-delivery here is an example, of sorts.  Email copy received but eBay messaging system copy not.

As at the time of sending, I have still not received a copy in the Messaging System.

I don't know if this is a valid situation for the issue at hand, but it seemed a good candidate.  The file attachment is the source text of the email I received.

He thanked me for the info and was going to pass it on to the techies.

He also said that the problem was known and he was (at the time) engaged in sending out messages to try and track the problem down - so it was certainly not being swept under the carpet.

I have not heard anyhting from Shane since (not that I really expected to) and the problem still seems to be occurring.

From all reports, it is an intermittent and infrequent problem and those are the most infuriating to try and sort out - because you just never know when you need to be looking.  Also, you may not be aware that a problem has occurred - because you are looking for something to NOT happen.

.. and the other thing is - just when you open your mouth and say something did NOT happen, Murphy takes charge and orders it to occur within 1 hour of you publicising your opinion and making you look dumb.

Glad Murphy (the law giver) isn't allowed in here!

Seems like it is an ongoing problem then.......

Shane if you are watching perhaps you could revive your 'looking into it' Thanks

It is working, but I couldn't figure out how to get it to say "Link" as I should, you know, how the professionals  ;) do it on ebay.

Col, to insert a link behind other text, copy the full URL address that you want to link to first

In this forum:
click the Insert Hyperlink icon
copy the URL address into the brackets and put your text in
[ url=http://www.and.so.on/]THEN PUT YOUR TEXT HERE[/url ]
THEN PUT YOUR TEXT HERE (http://www.and.so.on/)

On the eBay boards:
in the Reply box, type the text that you want to appear, highlight it, click the Link icon, and paste the URL address

I always preview, just to double-check, before I hit post.

Yes, Bunny, this has been happening to a few people.

I believe this topic was already being discussed in another thread... I'll find it and merge the two topics shortly.

Imp, now I understand why they haven't fixed it - or at least, let's take this as a working hypothesis.

The eBay email system may also be glitch-ridden. They haven't received your emails!
