Title: Do peoples Avatar's influence how you view their personality ?
Post by: *Yibida* on July 06, 2009, 12:18:03 PM
I'll start off by saying to a certain extent Avatars do influence the way I view their personality...you know what they say about "first impression" .... be it .... sexy-forceful-futuristic-old time-meek-boisterous-cautious-there are so many preconceptions linked to an Avatar....Am I right or wrong or looking into this phenomenon to deeply?....

Or should I relegate this thread to the bag?

When I had an avatar, I believe it did reflect me. (Well, since it was a glam photo of me, it couldn't very well reflect anyone else except the fantastic photographer who took the shot! ... Ah, and of course I had added some ambience to the photo by throwing in a gothic-looking moon or something vibrant and sumptuous, which I suppose reflects my love of rich colours and atmosphere.)

I cannot help associating people with their avatars. I look at the avatars and have a certain mental image of the person based at least partly on the avatar. When people change their avatars, it can take me a little while to get used to the "personality change" - and of course it's NOT a change, just another facet.

Great question Yib :) Yes, I think it does but it is only a perception afterall. People do tend to post in the spirit of their avatar in some cases. You, I see as someone who rarely takes things too seriously. Light-hearted and friendly. Only because you use a cartoon character, not because the charactor looks angry..LOL!!! The identity behind the avatar only comes out in what they post though. It is somewhat an illusion in many cases.

Well technically then Cupie and I are brothers or at least cousins. First to spot the link wins something, possibly a brown paper bag with black writing on it and hopefully in 'as new' condition. :D

Nah - think avatar's, not real people (whatever they are) :D

Our avatars are perhaps brothers or cousins! Same prize still on offer to spot the link  between us, unless Yib as had need for the bag in the interim.

You could hear the hoofbeats pound as they raced across the ground,
And the clatter of the wheels as they spun 'round and 'round.
And he galloped into market street, his badge upon his chest,
His name was Ernie, and he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.

Now Ernie loved a widow, a lady known as Sue,
She lived all alone in Liddley Lane at number 22.
They said she was too good for him, she was haughty, proud and chic,
But Ernie got his cocoa there three times every week.

They called him Ernie, (Ernieeeeeeeeeee)
And he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.

She said she'd like to bathe in milk, he said, "All right, sweetheart,"
And when he'd finished work one night he loaded up his cart.
He said, "D'you want it pasturized? 'Cause pasturized is best,"
She says, "Ernie, I'll be happy if it comes up to my chest."

That tickled old Ernie, (Ernieeeeeeeeeee)
And he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.

Now Ernie had a rival, an evil-looking man,
Called Two-Ton Ted from Teddington and he drove the baker's van.
He tempted her with his treacle tarts and his tasty wholemeal bread,
And when she seen the size of his hot meat pies it very near turned her head.

She nearly swooned at his macaroon and he said, "If you treat me right,
You'll have hot rolls every morning and crumpets every night."

He knew once she sampled his layer cake he'd have his wicked way,
And all Ernie had to offer was a pint of milk a day.

Poor Ernie, (Ernieeeeeeeeeee)
And he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.

One lunch time Ted saw Ernie's horse and cart outside her door,
It drove him mad to find it was still there at half past four.
And as he lept down from his van hot blood through his veins did course,
And he went across to Ernie's cart and didn't half kick his 'orse.

Whose name was Trigger, (Triggerrrrrrrr)
And he pulled the fastest milk cart in the west.

Now Ernie rushed out into the street, his gold top in his hand,
He said, "If you wanna marry Susie you'll fight for her like a man."
"Oh why don't we play cards for her?"
he sneeringly replied,
"And just to make it interesting we'll have a shilling on the side."

Now Ernie dragged him from his van and beneath the blazing sun,
They stood there face to face, and Ted went for his bun.
But Ernie was too quick, things didn't go the way Ted planned,
And a strawberry-flavoured yogurt sent it spinning from his hand.

Now Susie ran between them and tried to keep them apart,
And Ernie, he pushed her aside and a rock cake caught him underneath his heart.
And he looked up in pained surprise and the concrete hardened crust,
Of a stale pork pie caught him in the eye and Ernie bit the dust.

Poor Ernie, (Ernieeeeeeeeeee)
And he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.

Ernie was only 52, he didn't wanna die,
And now he's gone to make deliveries in that milk round in the sky.
Where the customers are angels and ferocious dogs are banned,
And the milkman's life is full of fun in that fairy, dairy land.

But a woman's needs are many fold and Sue she married Ted,
But strange things happened on their wedding night as they lay in their bed.
Was that the trees a-rustling? Or the hinges of the gate?
Or Ernie's ghostly gold tops a-rattling in their crate?

They won't forget Ernie, (Ernieeeeeeeeee)
And he drove the fastest milk cart in the west.

There are a few sayings about people and talking... such as "He talks through his nose" (meaning to talk in such a way that it gives a false impression of grandeur) or "He talks through his..."... er... nether regions (meaning to speak unsubstantiated nonsense). Either will do when disagreeing with someone, because it implies the other person's words are not worth addressing; typical politician's debate tactic of course...

And thus, some Australian people may find their faces hurt when talking. Some may find their noses hurt when they talk. And still others - well, let's not go there. Perhaps the best solution is that lovely soothing pink lotion.

I used to think Avatars to some degree reflect the posters behind them, or their perception of themselves but I find myself being represented by an avatar that does not reflect my personality.. I think, I don't even LIKE cats overly much, I do admit to being amused by the inane "lolcat" images at times, there seems to be one for every occasion LOL

Sometimes Avatars have hidden meanings, only known to the postee, hmm on reflection maybe mine does..but it's not the cat image but something a little more obscure..

Avatars as reflection of the person??

Hmmmm... well, I always thought Countess was kinda like hers - beautiful, regal and sort of above the champing hordes.
Yib?.. well, yes - funny!
Centuries? I kinda liked her old avatar, it looked like I felt most of the time.

And mine?

Just what I feel like at the moment....rotten head cold, hair standing up, living in dressing gown, snarling, and altogether charming, and not at PC much.

Afternoon all.

Wow, It looks like it will take me a while to catch up. I love having a week away with no computer and no phone but it's now going to take me another week to get through all the forum posts and my mail. And I've even got a few 'Congratulations, you've won this item' emails so the boys must have been shopping!

Avatars? On eBay and on two other forums I use a chocolate cake. Why? I love chocolate and I love cake, my two favourite food groups. On the OzRT I wanted to look a bit more upmarket, so I'm a chimp on a bike!  ;D

I do like to imagine the person behind avatars, and why they chose them. The same goes for user IDs.

I don't go to the eBay boards much anymore, but when I do I have the avatars turned off. Works well until sometimes posters will be laughing about someone's pic and I have no idea what they are talking about until I turn them back on.

I probably won't make it to the midnight battle, have a bad cold and much cleaning to do, so I'll wish you good luck now.

I love the vintage look of your avatar - very classy.
