This is a good horror story:

Is this really true? If so, then what is a seller's defense?

Of course many sellers are angry because of the new feedback restrictions that prevent them from leaving negatives to warn potential sellers about an unruly buyer. Well, as most of you also know, the only defense it leaves sellers now is to leave negative comments under a positive feedback. Hmmm . . . I was just reading that apparently this is NOT allowed. Leaving any type of negative comment is a major Ebay violation and they will "neutralize" the negative comment if reported so it doesn't sound like a negative.

Well, why is it so easy for buyers to have negatives removed, yet if a seller has all the evidence in the world to indicate the a negative was unwarranted they will not remove it?

Does anyone know Ebay's objective for this?

Also, if a seller is not even allowed to leave a negative comment on a positive feedback to warn other sellers, then what is their defense? Also, isn't that FORCING sellers to lie about their experiences just to meet the requirement of the new policy? Is it unflawful to force someone to lie like that?

I guess I really have nothing to complain about because most of my buyers are classy and would never do that, but I constantly feel under the threat that It's only a matter of time before I end up with one of these unreasonable buyers.

This isn't exactly new. It's over a year old, but yes, it's true. No false positives. If you leave one and the buyer reports you, it's a mark against you. eBay doesn't want buyers to have negative experiences, so they're letting them have more control in transactions. Too many bad sellers led to buyers leaving, now eBay's swung the pendulum to the other side.

Imho, negative feedback never was a good defense. No one is forcing you to lie. If you don't want to leave a positive FB, then don't.

It is frustrating, however, that you can't warn other sellers via FB. All you can do, is file the unpaid item strikes and hope other sellers are using their blocks properly. Other than that, you've got to try to work with your buyers. It is the way it is now, like it or leave it.

I completely disagree with the above poster who said "too many bad sellers caused buyers to leave". This is unsubstantiated Ebay propaganda that they have never been able to support with actual facts or figures. Former employees have claimed that Ebay's assertions that it had widespread problems with unethical and fraudulent sellers was a total myth.

Too many unfair policies caused sellers to leave. These policies were mostly implemented to benefit diamond sellers/big box stores who cut back alley deals with Ebay management, to reduce their competition on the site. These massive numbers of departed sellers were also in many cases rabid buyers as well. As massive numbers of sellers selling interesting merchandise left, massive numbers of buyers left as well to wherever the interesting merchandise had moved. Implementing draconian, unfair policies directed toward sellers has NOT brought the buyers back. Ebay's core business continues to fade, and the economy in all likelihood is only slightly to blame. People came to Ebay to find interesting merchandise they couldn't find other places, or to get better deals than they could get other places. The current version of Ebay doesn't provide either of these things.

The real reason buyers left had nothing to do with bad sellers and everything to do with what Ebay did to destroy good sellers and drive them off the site. Anyone who has been here a long time and knows the real history of the site and its many changes is well aware of this.
