Title: Re: Just For a Laugh

apart from the entertainment value for me it's more an anthropological study and an insight into the type of customer eBay attracts

I need to be reminded that there are people 'out there' like that ....... and sadly I feel there are lots of them

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh

I have to give her this ... to admit you were wrong and apologise is a good sign - and to make a public video for the internet about it is quite an encouragement.

All I can say is that buyers encompass a huge range of personalities and backgrounds - some of which may seem peculiar - but so long as there are a majority who have some basic values about honesty and fairness, then there is still hope.

Sorry, I couldn't watch all of it. Was there a point to it?

It did ramble a bit - but she demonstrated the charger working, admitted that she was wrong (in her previous video) and made an unequivocal apology.
Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: bnwt on June 22, 2010, 08:19:47 AM
what I want to know is why the seller bothers

she says the Bootleg Hello Kitty Charger cost $3.99 .......... now deduct the listing fee + eBay commission + paypal commission + postage from Hong Kong to the USA + padded bag

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *Ubbie Max* on June 22, 2010, 09:43:59 AM
Yeah BNWT. The seller would not be making wages. How the hell would the seller feed & clothe a family if he or she had to rely on sales such as this.
Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *smee* on June 22, 2010, 09:48:56 AM
Hong Kong seller .... no listing fee for starters and probably reduced fvf as well not sure on that one
Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: bnwt on June 22, 2010, 09:59:39 AM
the cost of postage alone (US$3 approx.) would be more then the profit margin

so it would in fact cost the seller money to sell the Bootleg Hello Kitty Charger

why do it ???
Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *Ubbie Max* on June 22, 2010, 10:01:40 AM
It's wrong that the Chinese/HK sellers get preferential treatment from Ebay. What happened to equality, all people being treated equal?

Could it be that Ebay is trying to bolster it's flagging listings by giving the Asian sellers this preferential treatment?

if I wasn't laughing I'd be crying

have a look at this email I got this morning

Hi,
I recieved my wallet yesterday - thank you for your prompt delivery :-) I love the look of the wallet but it does not quite work for me - when i open it being a right handed person the card slots are upside down and i fear the cards may slip out.
Do you offer a refund at all?
Kind Regards
Alison

I fear that more then your cards have slipped

Fancy selling a left handed purse to a right handed buyer ..... some sellers dont deserve eBay acounts !!!

she obviously turns the wallet on its side to open it .... maybe you need to start attaching tags like those on Irish milk bottles  that read "open this end"

to quote Sienfeld "not that there is anything wrong with that"

but please why do these people have to change their tone so they speak in that soppy poofy drone

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *Brum6y* on July 01, 2010, 11:44:49 PM
I think I watched the first 30 seconds - and then clicked further along. I landed on the 'wig scene'. 10 seconds of that and I'd seen enough.

.... and it wasn't anything to do with tone, or other impressions - but the fact that someone does a video of quite inane stuff, especially when 'they don't know why they bought it'.

I have lost a minute of my life to that. If I weren't philosophical enough to write it up as 'broadening my understanding of the world' I'd demand my minute back.....

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh

do I look like a postman ??

why did one of my interstate buyers send me this message ??

Please leave parcel at front door if i am not at home. It is very awkward for me to get to a Post Office so I would rather not receive a delivery card.
Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *Brum6y* on July 10, 2010, 04:31:10 PM
Well, you do have the parcel from the sending end - and can put delivery instructions on it.  The 'Do not safe drop' stickers provided by Australia Post being one example.

However.....

If it is a registered article - or any form of delivery where a signature is required - then there is a problem, especially since Paypal forces the registered option for their so-called 'Seller Protection'.

So, there is a dilemma ... Do you risk the ire of the customer by sticking to 'signature required' forms of delivery - which can be a basic means of protection for a seller (even outside of Paypal's policies) - or do you defer to the buyers request at the risk of an INR claim?

What does your business model consider the lesser risk?

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: Roo on July 10, 2010, 09:56:50 PM
It may sound funny...but I kinda know what this buyer is thinking.

My Postie has started to leave any Registered or sign for parcels at his Delivery centre depot instead of the local PO.

The Delivery Centre is miles away and I just can't get there because of my work hours....and it would take a bus trip there and back.

Last parcel I received, I called the MC and asked if they could forward it to my local PO so I could pick it up from there.

They said 'Yeah, sure'....as long as I paid the extra postage if it was bigger than letter size!

Thankfully it was only letter size...so it didn't cost me extra...but if it was a large parcel, I would have been up for the normal postage cost for that parcel to be delivered somewhere that I could pick it up from!

If I know a parcel is going to be registered....I usually make the delivery address my work address...but if the seller doesn't tell me it will need to be signed for.....I'm stoofed!

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: bnwt on July 11, 2010, 09:25:41 AM
roo

all your points are valid   BUT

why is the buyer asking me to deliver her parcel to her door ??

I have no control over what her postman does

it is scary to think people like her are allowed to leave feedback

From eBay controlled web pages...?  Good question.

However - if this message also travels through normal email channels as well, then it makes sense in that context.
Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *wheels* on July 13, 2010, 06:25:45 PM
bnwt, I don't know about removing the number, but what about the offer?

Seriously, I couldn't offer $30 for an item that was listed as $47. I would never insult the seller by offering less than 90% of the BIN price.
Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *smee* on July 13, 2010, 06:31:20 PM

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh

correct

the first offer was $15

which is pretty standard lately

Title: Re: Just For a Laugh
Post by: *Brum6y* on July 13, 2010, 09:15:43 PM
I forget where I saw it and the amounts involved, but I remember a haggling exercise that made a lasting impression.

I'll just use some made up numbers, but you'll get the idea:

Buyer   Seller
(Offer)(Counter-offer)
  $50
   $100
  $60
   $90
  $70
   $85
  $75
   $80
  $76
   $80
  $76
   $80
  $77
   $85
Huh??
   $95
  $80
   $110

There are times.............

I have had my worst week ever for low rent retard buyers

the worst one this week was a guy ... he gives his address as only currey ipswich ....... that's it

I email him asking him to confirm the address which he does .. two weeks later he's complaining that the parcel has not arrived

I again mention that the odd address may have something to do with it and suggest he contact his post office ... he does and discovers the parcel has been sent Return To Sender - Insufficient Address

he then replies saying his address is actually (street number) # currey st, brassall and wants me to resend the parcel

I say fine but he'll have to pay for the postage and the padded bag again .... to which he replies

without this getting too ugly...you did nothing in good faith.. u were paid for product and postage in advance. Secondly who sends a parcel without a street number? I could only assume that you left that out in ur email. Thirdly..u would not need a new padded bag as u only have to re-address the one that comes back.Just put a # (street number) and thats it ... oh you mite want to add (ST.) if you left that out!
Last but not least maybe u should take it up with Ebay as apparently they gave u the address originally. Sue them for the $4.if u think that u will go bust over it!

I cancelled the sale

then just to crown my week ........... last night a guy buys a wallet and then sends me this email

Dear bnwt,

i will pay when i receve the item

if you didn't laugh you'd have to cry

HEMA is a Dutch department store. The first store opened on November 4, 1926, in Amsterdam. Now there are 150 stores all over the Netherlands.

Take a look at HEMA's product page - just wait a couple of seconds and watch what happens. DON'T click on any of the items in the picture; just wait.

This company has a sense of humor and a great computer programmer, who has too much time on his hands.
