The SOC Exchange
Sell Goods Online - have your own little website for just $1 a month or $10 a year. NO other fees involved. The 'look' of your listings is limited but you can add up to 7 pics, choose how buyers contact you, choose your payment method, host a blog, do email marketing etc etc. It is a cheap and easy way to trial an online store, especially if you sell brand name items as the listings get very good results in google searches.

is it possible to find similar items that have ended & how much they went for?
-
Yes.
Submit a search for what you want and then look to the left of the page. You will see a link called "Completed Listings". Click on that and you will be shown item listings that have ended. If they haven't sold, the price shown will be the asking price. If they have sold, the price will be in green - and the amount will be what it sold for.

Thanks for that I did find it, was slightly different, it was on the right side then had to click on advanced.
I wouldn't have found it by myself so thanks.

I've a few things I would like to sell, but I'm too put off by the recent eBay changes. I understand that neither the seller of an item nor the potential buyer of it can communicate in any way suggesting that they are giving, receiving, or exchanging contact details, even if it's for the purpose of pre-purchase inspection, or for giving the potential buyer a heads-up about the seller's location so that the buyer can consider whether the location is within his/her pickup distance.
And of course there's also the PayPal funds hold for any eBay member wanting to sell after not having done so before (or after not having sold for a while).
It makes eBay's current "enticing" offer to sell items in order for eBayers to have the money to buy things for Christmas simply downright misleading and specious!

This is true.
As one example, sellers have been penalised for trying to communicate part numbers. EBay's text bots classify them as phone numbers. Once the "Buy it Now" has been done, however, there is a lot more latitude given.
No help beforehand though.
EBay has become so paranoid, it is actually becoming counter-productive (IMHO). Your sentiment is not uncommon.
