I have always found it useful to be able to see while stumbling around on stage, Smee! So... yes, eye-holes are a pre-requisite.

None of the Venetian masks that I've found on eBay has impressed me enough to say, "Yes, I've got to have that mask". I found a very, very beautiful mask in Canterbury on Saturday, but it's rather expensive...

In the meantime, I've found this and this (also not bad). The hunt continues...

Countess...the first one is beautiful....but you could always get the second one and superglue some feathers from spotlight to the second.

In fact....the second one is more ornate and I actually prefer it.

Hope you find one you like Countess, let us see when you do.
I am after a James Dixon leather plough in good condition  but ebay has changed things and I don't know how to work their stoopid search thingy anymore.

I agree - it's hard to perform a proper search on eBay. It's worth persisting if you can't find what you want elsewhere. You may have to grit your teeth and try...

Of all the masks I've seen, the one in the shop in Canterbury still appeals to me the most.

You're such a flatterer...!

I've been checking those links; some of them have wearable Venetian masks. I wish I could buy all of them - I love the elegant and gorgeous grotesquerie of these. They range from the characterful bizarre to the outrageously beautiful.

I'm definitely planning a concert where I'll wear a mask for at least some of the performance.

I just had a thought!

Will you be singing while wearing this mask?

You may need a half mask to be able to sing properly....the full mask would make it very difficult.... :(

Yes, I'd be singing, Roo - but I thought I could wear the mask during the introductory music and remove it while singing (mostly because I LOVE the full-face masks... but I might have to go with a half-face mask).

There are also the hand-held masks which could work very nicely. Link.

I do love the Autumn mask...it's my favourite season...

But....as a viewer..I would find it distracting to see a singer dropping their mask everytime they sang.

In Phantom...he wore a half mask ....and was always in character..and it didn't detract from the performance.

One thing I tend to do when watching a singing performance, is to watch the singer's mouth.

If you watch closely...you can see each breath the singer takes....and the slight quaver of the lips if the song is poignant......

I see the emotion that the singer gives to the performance.

Does that make sense?

Absolutely, Roo - the singer should express so much with the face, with the stance, with the angle of the neck and the curve of the cheek and the expression of the eyes and the fall of the hands... with everything. It is definitely more challenging to convey intense emotion while hidden by a mask. A half-mask is probably going to be the one to get, and I'll just have to organise a masked ball some time for New Year's Eve, where everyone is obliged to wear a Venetian mask, so that I will have a reason to buy a FULL mask. *wicked grin*

Ohhhh... I've fallen in love... Look at this.

$440 US. Can I bargain them down?

(There is NOTHING of this quality on eBay. The ones on eBay have things like "Certificate of Authenticity included", which is ridiculous. What does such a certificate assert, and who asserts it? They look cheap'n'nasty in comparison with the absolutely exquisite masks that are available elsewhere. But I have to be fair - I haven't yet checked on the eBay.it site itself, although I did select "worldwide".

Ooooo..I do like that one....it would suit you to a tee!

No feathers though.... :D

The metal work looks like a lot of Balanese jewellery I have seen...the intricate silver etching...the fineness....and would most definitly be my pick for you.

The price is a bit rich though...how much is that in Oz dollars?

Have you looked at any Bali sites?....
