Yes, Leftists Are More Insane Than They Used to Be
It’s not just you, or your neighbor, or Elon Musk feeling this way about polarization in America.
MAY 2, 2022

428

Elon Musk did it again. He set the Twittersphere ablaze with a single tweet, this time about the political spectrum. He didn’t even say anything; he just posted the image below.

It accurately sums up the experience of millions of Americans over the last couple of decades, though it’s little surprise to see the lefties of Twitter come out of the woodwork to yell, “It’s exactly the opposite!” That’s what polarization does.

Many of the responses to Musk pointed to a Pew Research Center study. “Both parties have moved further away from the ideological center since the early 1970s,” Pew said back in March. “Democrats on average have become somewhat more liberal, while Republicans on average have become much more conservative.”

Somewhat more liberal?

There’s some truth to Pew’s conclusion, but there’s a big caveat: It focuses entirely on members of Congress. There are no longer any congressional Democrats who are more conservative than any Republicans, and there are no congressional Republicans who are more liberal than any Democrats. But does that actually prove that Republicans are the ones who got more conservative?

In some ways, sure, elected Republicans have become more ideologically conservative in many respects. There are relatively few “pro-choice” Republicans today. Most at least espouse fiscal conservatism (even if few practice it once in office) and favor lower taxes, less regulation, originalist judges, and so on. Gone are the days of a Republican president establishing the EPA, as Richard Nixon did, and there probably won’t be another Republican president who raises taxes like George H.W. Bush.

But if you’ll recall the 1990s especially, all the same things were true (Bush notwithstanding). The GOP is, by and large, still a party largely shaped by the ideological north star of Ronald Reagan.

By contrast, are Democrats still the party of Tip O'Neill? Is Joe Biden the same guy he was in the 1980s?

There are virtually no pro-life Democrats. They now talk regularly of universal healthcare and canceling student loan debt — policies that were practically unheard of 30 years ago. And the Democrat Party is now run by the Rainbow Mafia, those who not only want to destigmatize the “LGBTQ” crowd but grow it by grooming children to join the club. Once the party of free speech and patriotic dissent, Democrats now aim only to silence the “misinformation” and “bigotry” of having a conservative opinion. Wrongthink on social media will be banned or suppressed into irrelevance.

Just about the only thing that’s the same for Democrats is the racism, though even that has been overtaken by Marxist critical race theory.

As for the average Americans who make up the parties’ bases, the story is very different. If conservatives can in any way be said to be more conservative, it’s because we’re reacting to the Left’s aggression in the culture wars.

It wasn’t conservatives who suddenly changed position on same-sex marriage, for example. First of all, such a thing wasn’t even an idea until roughly 30 years ago, and conservatives have always opposed it. The Defense of Marriage Act was bipartisan. Then liberals became rabidly leftist about it, declaring opponents bigots for holding the position they themselves held until five minutes ago.

The same can be said for virtually the entire Rainbow Mafia agenda — especially the “transgender” radicalization of the last few years. No one but no one thought gender dysphoria was anything but mental illness before leftists decided that it’s worth “affirming,” celebrating, recruiting, adding to entertainment and sports, and then using as a censorship cudgel against conservatives. Again, conservative opposition is reaction to this aggression.

The “insurrection” at the Capitol was another example thrown back in Musk’s face, as if that proves conservatives have become more radical. The rioting fools that day aren’t representative of conservatives. As for the vast majority of folks at the Capitol that day, again, they were reacting. Democrats changed the rules of elections all over the country — rules that both parties had generally agreed upon for ages, until COVID gave Democrats an excuse to change procedures. When the results were, ahem, less than reliable, conservatives reacted with alarm and anger.

It takes some special chutzpah for Democrats to complain about that now.

So the real question is this: What effect will all of the Left’s radicalism have on Democrat election prospects? Are all those parents showing up at school board meetings to protest “woke” indoctrination in education and winning Virginia for Republicans a sign of things to come? Will there be a bigger backlash against the culture assault being waged by the likes of Disney?

Maybe the difference is indeed the children. Now that leftists have become more open and brazen in their efforts to indoctrinate kids all over the nation, perhaps they’ll find that they’ve awakened a sleeping giant. Maybe more Americans will realize there are things worth conserving, which is what being a conservative is all about.

Biden Boots American Warriors, Gives Illegals a Free Pass
In perhaps its most rotten double standard yet, the administration is mandating the vaccine on our military personnel but not on illegal immigrants.
MAY 2, 2022

Time was, just a few weeks ago, when the Biden administration took COVID-19 seriously — so seriously, in fact, that it began discharging from the U.S. military all those young men and women who, for whatever reason, decided against getting vaccinated.

But now we know that the administration isn’t so serious about COVID after all. We know this because, as The Washington Free Beacon reports, the Biden White House “appears to have abandoned its effort to ensure all migrants apprehended by immigration authorities are inoculated against COVID-19, just a month after the White House said vaccines would be mandatory.”

As anonymous sources tell the Beacon: “Border Patrol officials in the Rio Grande Valley are exempting migrants from such countries as Guatemala, Haiti, and Mexico from vaccine mandates. And migrants from Nicaragua, Cuba, and Venezuela must only receive one dose of the vaccine before they are released into the U.S. interior.” We should note that these exempted countries have vaccination rates that are among the lowest in the hemisphere. Take Haiti, for example. According to Our World in Data, only 1.5% of Haitians are either fully or partially vaccinated.

Got that? Military members: Get vaccinated, or we’ll run you out of the service. Illegal immigrants: Come on across, and don’t worry about getting vaccinated.

As for these warriors, they’re among the most capable and most patriotic young people we have in uniform. We know this because we in our editorial shop happen to know some of them personally. As our Mark Alexander notes: “I am in contact with numerous outstanding career military personnel, combat-hardened Marine and Army officers with service records second to none, who are being forcibly separated because of Biden’s military vax mandate. The same is true of military veterans now serving in federal law enforcement capacities, the best of the best being forced out. And this despite most of them having already had the ChiCom virus and now sporting the natural immunity to prove it.”

Some of these unvaccinated warriors have filed suit, accusing their respective service branches of unfairly denying religious exemption requests. But to date, despite tens of thousands of requests having been filed, the Air Force has only approved nine, the Marine Corps has approved three, and the Army has approved one.

And so, the purge continues. Of 3,400 troops who’ve been involuntarily separated from the service so far, “about 70 percent have received general discharges,” the Military Times reports. “That characterization secures their veterans benefits and, in many cases, allows them to rejoin the military if they decide to get vaccinated.”

So at a time when our military is suffering greatly from a lack of morale and a lack of warfighting readiness, if these warriors want back into the service, they’ll need to compromise their principles and cave to the Biden administration’s authoritarians.

That’s some choice. And that’s some commander-in-chief.

There’s no evidence of pirates making treasure maps.

When we think of pirates, some instantly recognizable iconography comes to mind: eye patches, peg legs, treasure maps, parrots. As it turns out, only some of these ideas are grounded in truth. As far as we know, pirates did not, in fact, make treasure maps.

Though they are believed to have buried treasure on occasion — those ill-gotten gains had to go somewhere — there are few documented cases of them doing so, and even fewer (read: none) of them creating a map where "X" marks the spot. Treasure maps are a double-edged cutlass, after all: For as much help as they might be to the pirate in question, they could also fall into the wrong hands.

Like drawing treasure maps, walking the plank is thought of as a classic pirate activity. But there’s little evidence that it ever happened, and it seems we have Daniel Defoe and other writers to thank for creating the myth in the first place.

It’s difficult to separate truth from legend when it comes to pirates, who have long occupied an outsized place in our collective imagination. Novels like Robert Louis Stevenson’s 1881–1882 Treasure Island helped popularize the idea of buried treasure in general and treasure maps in particular, and thus many of our ideas about pirates come more from novelists (and, of course, screenwriters) than historians. There is some good news, though: It seems likely that some pirates really did have parrots — among other exotic pets.

What Is The Pentagon Hiding About It’s UFO Program? Even Congress Doesn’t Know
MAY 4, 2022

This past week, members of the Senate Intelligence and Armed Services committees received classified briefings on a topic that rises above mere national security, into interplanetary security and our deepest philosophical questions.

These efforts are an attempt to get to the bottom of the military reports of Unidentified Aerial Phenomenon (UAP), or what the rest of us call UFOs.

It shouldn’t be shocking to any of us that it seems as though the Pentagon is less-than-interested in what they are charged to do by Congress.

Which, by itself, should raise questions about what they know.

Slow Rolling Congress
The National Defense Authorization Act signed in December required the Pentagon to create the Anomaly Surveillance and Resolution Office.

In addition, the Pentagon was given carte blanche to use “any resource, capability, asset, or process” to investigate UAPs.

With this new office, an “intelligence collection and analysis plan should be developed to gain as much knowledge as possible regarding the technical and operational characteristics, origins, and intentions of the unidentified aerial phenomenon.”

Perhaps most importantly, the Pentagon must provide an annual report and semi-annual briefings to Congress on all UAP incidents such as “associated with military nuclear assets, including strategic nuclear weapons, nuclear-powered ships, and submarines.”

In other words, incidents involving possibly our very national survival.

So lawmakers received a briefing, and let’s just say they were underwhelmed by either the Pentagon’s incuriosity, or reticence to disclose, or both. The consensus was that they were unimpressed with the lack of effort to determine the aircraft’s origins.

Instead, what they received was apparently merely an acknowledgement of their existence, which we already knew, thanks mainly to Luis Elizondo.

Can We Handle The Truth?

An aide for Senator Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said that his overall feeling of the Pentagon’s report was:

“They are not moving fast enough, not doing enough, not sharing enough.”

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) also was frustrated according to aides, but most vocal was Congressman Tim Burchett (R-TN) who spoke directly to reporters regarding the briefing.

“I don’t trust the Department of Defense to get this right since leadership there has always been part of a cover-up.”

He went on to say that:

“It is clear from the public evidence that we don’t have full control of our airspace.”

Those are some strong statements to make – and if true, should shake our notion of security to its core.

One implies that the Department of Defense can’t be trusted with this subject, if not others. And we have a major national security issue of unknown (or, known but undisclosed) origins.

So let’s dissect a bit Congressman Burchett’s incredible statements.

Wait, Who Is In Charge Again?
Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks directed the creation of the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group to oversee the efforts required by the NDAA. At hand is a need to standardize UAP incident reporting, collection, and analysis. Within the memo, she directed the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security USD (I&S) with this task.

Where have we heard of that office before?

That’s right, that’s the same office formerly headed up by Garry Reid. The same Reid who was dismissed after investigations revealed he was carrying on inappropriate relationships with his subordinate, misusing his email and authority, and attempting to discredit Luis Elizondo.

The latter, Elizondo, worked on the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP), which fell under Reid’s purview. There is also speculation that the individual who has replaced Reid at USD (I&S) is his former subordinate.

So it doesn’t seem like this office has a lot of credibility in this area and doesn’t promote confidence in the seriousness that the Pentagon takes this office, let alone professionalism in the workplace.

That needs to change if we’re going to get answers.

Luis Elizondo had the following to say when we asked him how he felt about this office being in charge:

“I vehemently applaud the idea of a centralized office to assess UAP related data provided that the individuals assigned that responsibility are committed to see through Congress’ intent as prescribed by the recent law enacted concerning this topic. However, critical to its success will be ensuring that individuals who have been historically opposed to this effort not be given the ability to interfere with it solely based on the topic’s perceived stigma or conflicts to personal philosophies. Ultimately, it is up to this new organization to represent the voice of Congress and the American people. As for now, it’s too early to tell if that voice has been truly heard.”

Of note and less related to little green men and more Earthbound, this same office was responsible for the Afghanistan Crisis Action Group, accountable for screening and resettling Afghans who worked with American troops.

We all know how well that went; surely, they can handle tracking and analyzing potential space invaders.

I’m not worried. You’re worried. I’ll just be over here researching a missile silo bunker for me to move my family to when the invasion begins; I’ve seen Independence Day.

In All Seriousness…
All joking aside, why does the Pentagon refuse to take this issue seriously? Is it because they are hiding something? Is it because they think they are above the law? Is it because they are too inept to take it seriously? Congressman Burchett believes:

“There’s an arrogance in government at that level that we cannot handle what’s going on out there. It’s a bogus cover-up. It doesn’t fit and it’s about power and control.”

He went on to say:
“It’s not a tinfoil hat thing anymore.”

No doubt something is flying around our skies, checking out at a minimum our nuclear capabilities. What it is, I don’t know. But just in case, I better get some tinfoil.

The Truth Behind Military Brass Incompetence And The System That Perpetuates It
APRIL 14, 2022

“I want to understand White rage. And I’m White.”

This is what keeps our nation’s top General up at night.

Don’t just take my word for it. See with your own eyes:

Before the invasion of Ukraine, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, reportedly told congressional leaders that Ukraine would “…fall in 72 hours.”

Whoops.

Once Putin wasn’t winning on the battlefield, the Pentagon acknowledged that this could be a long war.

The military acts in a reactive posture versus from a proactive position, and it’s high time we have serious conversations about it.

To be fair to General Milley, you can’t put all the blame for the repetitive incompetence displayed by The Pentagon on him. But, on the other hand, he just happens to be the senior-most ranking military member in our country. So I guess you could put all the blame on him.

Perhaps if he spent more time studying the profession of arms versus delving into his white fragility, he could accurately predict the possible outcomes of Russia’s invasion.

Perhaps if he had spent more time listening to his generals in the field than playing politics, he could’ve appropriately advised on the outcome of our withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“There was nothing that I or anyone else saw that indicated a collapse of this army and this government in 11 days,” Milley said.

Our history has countless examples of how our military was made famous for learning from mistakes and doing better next time.

Why Has Military Skill And Foresight Atrophied?
Politics and the military are not new bed fellows. From the very birth of our nation, men lobbied for high-ranking military positions to elevate their name and their influence. Likewise, we see this with top brass focused on their careers and wealth as they vie for a role on defense contractor boards.

The difference between then and now is the number of Americans who serve in the military. If you think about World War II-era military levels, roughly 11% of Americans served in the military.

Come 2018; that had dropped to about 7%. It doesn’t seem like a huge difference. Still, the difference seemed much more significant when you think of pure numbers, with 3.5 million on Active Duty in 1968 to 1.4 million in 2021.

Until recently, the American military was generally revered by all demographics and groups. The media, politicians, and any other influential group would expound limitless praise on the military most of the time. This is a bit at odds with the skepticism and criticism that most other tax-payer-funded institutions experience in this country.

If you had been in the service in the last 20 years, you more than likely sat through training that would discuss how the American people have unending and unwavering trust in men and women in uniform over almost all other professions.

However, last November, the Ronald Reagan Institute found in a poll that only 45% reported “A great deal of trust and confidence in the military,” down 25 points in just three years from other polls.

Why The Steady Decrease In Public Confidence?
The chaotic retreat from Kabul undoubtedly played a part in shaking this confidence. It was the first time since the fall of Saigon that the American people had witnessed a military defeat. But, regardless of how you felt about withdrawal, the execution is what upset so many on both sides of the political aisle.

When Congress and the media questioned, our military leaders tried to spin that there was much to celebrate. After all, our servicemen and women had executed a harrowing dynamic airlift and saved thousands of lives.

As if the images of Afghans falling from the wheels of our tankers, 13 service members who died in the process, and the innocent people we killed in an airstrike based on lousy intelligence are irrelevant based on our rapid global mobility skills.

This kind of factual misdirection is something that the defense machine is quite adept at, going back to our military academies. As a result, as much as it may be painful to admit, we are creating the ill-equipped, weak, and unqualified military leaders we rely on today.

The Academy Con
It’s commonly believed that gaining acceptance into any military academy is something only the most premier students can attain. This simply is not the case. The Naval Academy once claimed they had over 20,000 applicants in one year when the number was closer to 5,000.

Universities have to report their applicant and admission numbers using strict guidelines produced by the Department of Education. The military academies are allowed to create their policies for the most part. They count applicants as anyone who has shown any interest in the academies, regardless of whether they ever submit a finished application.

Coupled with that, on average, United States Representatives and Senators received roughly $171,000 in contributions from families of students they nominated to the academies. It’s easy to see how we flood these academies with the average and dull versus the best and brightest.

Each academy has preparatory schools meant to, on the surface, provide a leg up for those who come from challenging socioeconomic backgrounds in an attempt to give a veneer of diversity. In reality, a lot of the students in the preparatory schools are there to fill the sports programs of the academies to help elevate those programs that are also recruitment mechanisms across the country.

For every student who makes it to the preparatory school, another academically more qualified student for the academy loses their slot. The military academy’s fabrications have instilled in Americans overconfidence in the military and reduced overall military preparedness.

In one of his first meetings with the Joint Chiefs of Staff, President Trump once reportedly said, “You don’t know how to win anymore.”

CDC spent taxpayer dollars to buy cellphone location data to track Americans during COVID pandemic
May 04, 2022

Shocking documents reveal the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention purchased cellphone data on millions of Americans during the COVID-19 pandemic to ensure they were complying with pandemic-related restrictions.

What are the details?
Motherboard, a technology news website, reported Tuesday that CDC documents show the agency spent $420,000 last year to purchase cellphone location data harvested from tens of million of Americans.

The news website obtained the documents through a Freedom of Information Act request.

The data was purchased from SafeGraph, which Motherboard described as a "highly controversial data broker." The data was "derived from at least 20 million active cellphone users per day across the United States" and provided "extremely accurate insights related to age, gender, race, citizenship status, income, and more." The purchase gave the CDC access to the data for one year.

Some of the reasons the CDC wanted the data include:

To "[t]rack patterns of those visiting K-12 schools by the school";

"Monitoring adherence to state-level policies to quarantine after arrival from another state";

To track the "correlation of mobility patterns data and rise in COVID-19 cases" in schools, mass gatherings (concerts, sporting events, and places of worship), public transportation stations, etc., locations with shelter-in place orders, and locations with "movement restrictions (Border closures, inter-regional and nigh curfews) to show compliance";

To examine "the effectiveness of public policy on [the] Navajo Nation."

When purchasing the data, the CDC placed an "urgent" request because of the pandemic. But documents show the CDC wanted to use the data for purposes completely unrelated to the pandemic.

"CDC also plans to use mobility data and services acquired through this acquisition to support non-COVID-19 programmatic areas and public health priorities across the agency, including but not limited to travel to parks and greenspaces, physical activity and mode of travel, and population migration before, during, and after natural disasters," one of the documents said, Motherboard reported.

Anything else?
Last year, Google banned SafeGraph from the Google Play Store, the platform's application store, which meant that SafeGraph's data collection code had to be removed from applications available in the app store.

Motherboard reported that SafeGraph likely violated a Google policy that prohibits Google's technology firms from paying "app developers to include their data harvesting code and then sell the collected data to companies or government agencies."

Detectives' raid of California man's home turns up heroin, meth, cocaine — and an alligator
May 04, 2022

Donny Askar, 45, has been sentenced to 60 days in jail for the unlawful possession.
Amazingly, it didn't happen in Florida, but in Oxnard, California.

Detectives performed a drug raid on a man's home and were shocked to find not only heroin, methamphetamines, and cocaine — but a live alligator, too. Call it a gator-raid.

Now, Donny Askar, 45, has been sentenced to 60 days in jail and one year of probation for his unlawful possession of the restricted species, according to the Ventura County district attorney's office.

In a press release issued Wednesday, District Attorney Erik Nasarenko announced that Askar pleaded guilty to the bizarre crime, which he committed more than a year before.

"On March 2, 2021, Oxnard Police Department officers and the Department of Fish and Wildlife personnel searched Askar’s Channel Islands Harbor home and discovered the alligator," the release stated.

According to KTLA-TV, when detectives discovered the gator at Askar's residence, it was four feet long and "submerged in a poorly secured tank with rancid water." Photos released to the media show the gator with duct tape sealing its jaws shut. However, it was not clear whether the tape was applied by Askar or by law enforcement officers.

Members of the Oxnard Police Department's Drug Enforcement Unit and California's Fish and Wildlife service were at the residence after securing a search warrant under suspicion that Askar was in possession of narcotics.

Askar was initially arrested on suspicion of possession for sale of heroin and methamphetamine, animal cruelty, and illegal possession of an alligator, the Sacramento Bee reported. On Wednesday, he pleaded guilty to drug charges and unlawful possession of the alligator.

"California law classifies alligators as a restricted species," Nasarenko noted in the release. "Persons wishing to possess a restricted species of animal must obtain a permit from the Department of Fish and Wildlife. Askar did not possess a restricted species permit for the alligator."

The district attorney added that the gator could have easily escaped and further threatened the public due to its insecure enclosure. Upon its discovery, the animal was taken to a secure location.

For his crimes, Askar has also been ordered to pay restitution to the Fish and Game Preservation Fund.

Orwell Strikes Again In Illinois

Here’s another example of business as usual in Washington DC — the business of lying and putting good for evil, and evil for good, the business of saying up is down, left is right, everything is the opposite of what you really know it is. And they continue to get away with it because too many people are all too willing to be deceived in their hearts, both in matters personal and political:

From the Washington Free Beacon, by Collin Anderson:

“As a federal official, Nikki Budzinski helped the [Brandon] administration cancel the Keystone XL pipeline. Now, the Illinois Democrat is running for Congress with a promise to reduce America’s ‘dependence on foreign energy.’”

How did Budzinski help Brandon actually increase America’s dependence on foreign oil, weaken its national security, destroy job opportunities, ruin billions of dollars in productive capital, and even cause harm to the environment that she and the Brandonites purport to protect?

Anderson has it at the Free Beacon:

“Budzinski joined the Biden administration in January 2021, when President Joe Biden shut down Keystone—which would have transported hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil per day from Canada to the United States—via executive order. As chief of staff in the Office of Management and Budget, Budzinski was tasked with overseeing the implementation of Biden’s executive orders.”

How many jobs were lost because of the Brandon administration’s unlawful executive order trammeling on American commerce and industry from afar in his ivory tower in Washington?

Even the lying so-called “fact-checkers” say the figure of 12,000 jobs is half-true, so you know it’s probably all true, or even twice as true, because conservatives never have the confidence to puff up and lie the way these so-called “progressive” fact checkers have— unless they’ve been duped by the progressive mainstream media into supporting a false flag conservative policy that’s actually a fully Woodrow Wilson demolition job of productivity and freedom in drag as a conservative policy.

And remember, this was accomplished with the stroke of Brandon’s pen. So not only did Budzinski trash the economy, destroy jobs, and increase U.S. dependence on foreign oil— she helped this administration to continue its unchecked expansion of federal executive power and steamroll over the U.S. Constitution like Brandon spent eight years doing as vice president in the Barack Obama Administration— Democrats’ favorite thing to do even more than Republicans (when they have the levers of power in hand).

If Orwell had a nickel every time.

Biden Slams MAGA, Claim’s It’s The ‘Most Extreme Political Organization In American History’
This is extremely dangerous talk coming from a President.

MAY 4, 2022

President Joe Biden, whose inauguration address contains the word ‘unity’ eight separate times, slammed MAGA (Make America Great Again) Republicans as “the most extreme political organization in American history.”

Biden’s shocking comments came during a speech at the White House Wednesday.

The President spoke out about a draft opinion indicating the Supreme Court is prepared to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade decision legalizing abortion.

“What are the next things that are going to be attacked?” he asked. “Because this MAGA crowd is really the most extreme political organization that exists in American history.”

He quickly quantified he meant “recent” American history.

Biden Goes After ‘Ultra-MAGA’ Republicans
President Biden, whose Department of Homeland Security recently set up a new “Disinformation Governance Board,” further smeared the Supreme Court by falsely suggesting they could decide to ban LGBT children from classrooms.

“This is about a lot more than abortion,” he said.

“What happens if you have a state change the law, saying that children who are LGBTQ can’t be in classrooms with other children?” he asked in a completely fabricated scenario. “Is that legit?”

Biden further denigrated Republicans when speaking about the budget deficit, calling the GOP “ultra-MAGA.”

“I don’t want to hear Republicans talking about deficits and their ultra MAGA agenda,” he said. “I want to hear about fairness, I want to hear about decency, honor, about helping ordinary people.”

He continued using the phrase repeatedly throughout the speech.

Great Unifier My Azz.
Remember the excitement coming from the media and Democrats the day after the election? The mean man in President Trump would soon be gone and the “great unifier” in Joe Biden was about to heal America.

“It’s a happy day for our country because Joe Biden is a unifier, because he is determined to bring people together, because he respects all points of view,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a speech at the time.

Biden himself capitalized on the myth, using the word ‘unity’ 8 separate times throughout his inaugural address.

“History, faith, and reason show the way, the way of unity,” Biden said. “We can see each other not as adversaries but as neighbors. We can treat each other with dignity and respect. We can join forces, stop the shouting, and lower the temperature.”

He added, “For without unity, there is no peace, only bitterness and fury.”

The people he suggested were ‘neighbors’ have now been labeled by a President possessed by blind ‘bitterness and fury’ as “the most extreme political organization in American history.”

That’s some great unifying there, Joe.

Just this past January, Biden again demonstrated why he is a full-throated liar when it comes to being the ‘unity’ President.

During a fiery speech on the anniversary of the Capitol riot, Biden blasted former President Trump and his supporters for having a “twisted” view of events from that day and suggested they are “un-American” for allegedly trying to suppress votes.

“That the riot that took place on January 6 is a true expression of the will of the people,” Biden said of those who viewed the protests that day as patriotic. “Can you think of a more twisted way to look at this country, to look at America?”

I don’t know, Chief, maybe we could start with how ‘twisted’ it is to label over 74 million Republican voters as extremists?

During that same speech calling Trump supporters twisted and un-American, Biden again preached unity.

“I believe the power of the presidency and the purpose is to unite this nation. Not divide it, to lift us up, not tear us apart,” he said. “It’s about us, not about me.”

While he delivered his cutting commentary on the MAGA crowd and the Supreme Court in tones slightly more hushed than the unhinged lunacy on display from Senator Elizabeth Warren, it doesn’t make the President’s comments any less unhinged.

Nor is it more palatable than Senator Chuck Schumer, who threatened the Supreme Court by telling the justices they would “pay the price” if they voted to overturn Roe.

Make no mistake, these wild comments are meant to stir up the far-left base to threaten and intimidate the Supreme Court into changing its opinion.

It’s deliberately designed to foment violence. And it’s already working, as the pro-abortion crowd prompted a massive police response in Los Angeles last night.

It will, no doubt, get worse in the days and weeks to come.

All of this is orchestrated by the left and has been for years. Calls for harassment during the Trump years were designed to silence conservatives. Calls of support for arson and looting during the race riots were designed to sway juries.

And now, they’re engaging in a full-on assault on the Supreme Court to change their likely opinion on Roe v. Wade.

President Biden can talk this way about the MAGA movement all he wants to his media lapdogs. They’ll eat it up. But he’s lying.

Mainstream America knows “the most extreme political organization in American history” is without a shadow of a doubt the goddam Democrat Party.

Joe Manchin is Coming to the Aid of a West Virginia Republican

As Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) marches to the beat of his own drum and refuses to fall in line with his party’s demands, Democrats are furious.

Democrats, and especially progressives, believe that Manchin has a duty to vote for whatever Joe Biden and the party says he should vote for. Meanwhile, the moderate Democrat has been clear that if certain bills cross a line, they won’t get his support.

In a Senate where Democrats need all 50 of their lawmakers on board to pass legislation, Manchin’s yay or nay vote is literally a make-or-break scenario.

Ultimately, the West Virginia senator’s been clear that Democrats aren’t going to be able to bully him into submission. Manchin especially made this clear during his appearance in a campaign ad for Rep. David McKinley (R-WV), per PJ Media.

Manchin on McKinley’s Run For Office

In West Virginia’s 2nd district, McKinley is up against the Trump-endorsed Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV). Because McKinley voted in favor of the federal infrastructure package last year, he’s been called a RINO by Trump and Mooney.

However, Mooney also falsely accused McKinley of supporting Biden’s failed Build Back Better Act. This is where Manchin stepped in.

In a McKinley campaign ad, the West Virginia Democrat notes his own opposition against Build Back Better and then slams Mooney for lying about McKinley’s record.

Another fascinating twist arrived when Manchin directly endorsed McKinley by saying he’s about the people of West Virginia, whereas Mooney is only out for himself.

Mooney reacted to this by alleging that Manchin’s support for McKinley is only proof of the latter being a RINO.

Could Manchin Leave the Democrat Party?

These days, the West Virginia senator appears to get along more with Republicans than he does Democrats. While Democrats are constantly trashing Manchin and saying he’s a traitor to his constituents, the senator has very high approval ratings in a deeply red state.

On top of this, Manchin has been courted by Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) to join the Republican Party. There’s been no confirmation from Manchin as to whether he’ll do this.

During the 2022 State of the Union address, Manchin caught a lot of attention when he sat with GOP lawmakers, rather than his own party.

Considering the darkly radical turn the left has taken, it’s managed to alienate Democrats like Manchin. There is a real possibility that he could switch over to the GOP at some point.

Time will tell.

Astronauts grow taller
in space.

The human body has evolved over millions of years within the confines of gravity. Our heart, lungs, muscles, and even our DNA have all developed under the influence of the force that’s constantly keeping our feet on the ground.

But what happens if gravity suddenly disappears? Ever since Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin first flew into space in 1961, space agencies have been studying how microgravity and zero gravity affect the human body. Over the years, they’ve discovered that blood pressure increases, muscles atrophy, heart muscles are strained, and bone density decreases.

But maybe the strangest of these biological changes is that astronauts grow about 3% taller because their spines, free from the constant pressure of gravity, slowly relax and lengthen. (After returning to Earth for a few months, astronauts shrink down to their original size.)

Scientists have discovered that astronauts snore and experience sleep disorders, such as apnea and hypopnea, at significantly reduced rates in space compared to on Earth. (In space, they can’t hear you scream — but they also can’t hear you snore.)

NASA is still learning more about the effects of space on the human body, helped in part by its yearlong “Twins Study” from 2015 to 2016. In the study, NASA astronaut Scott Kelly spent 340 days onboard the International Space Station while his identical twin brother, Mark Kelly, who’s also an astronaut, remained on Earth.

NASA saw not only the expected changes, but also that Scott’s telomeres — caps at the end of DNA strands that help protect them — had lengthened during his stay, the opposite effect of what scientists predicted. Scott also lost some cognitive ability once he returned to Earth, perhaps as a result of his readjustment to gravity after a year in space.

All this information will be pivotal as NASA and other space agencies plan for the seven-month journey to Mars, where they hope to send (slightly taller) humans in the coming decades.

1 big thing: How cars are becoming better listeners
Voice technology is making cars safer

Our cars have always been our companions, but now, thanks to the integration of new digital voice assistants like Amazon's Alexa, they're finally able to understand us better.

Why it matters:
The arrival of more reliable voice technology is revolutionizing the in-car experience, giving drivers hands-free access to more features and apps so they don't have to fumble with buttons or screens while driving.

Now a driver can say, "Alexa, I'm cold," and the car will adjust the temperature.
Or, "Alexa, take me to the nearest Starbucks," and the car will navigate there.
Flashback: Until a couple of years ago, voice commands in cars didn't work very well.

Drivers had to use stilted, preset phrases to navigate a series of menus: Navigation. Destination address. City. Street. Number.

None of it was intuitive, the systems were balky, and the episode usually ended in collisions and frustration.

Cars didn't have the memory and computing power to handle much more.
Four big technology advancements have led to a recent breakthrough in voice technology, which, in turn, is making cars safer.

Cloud computing has arrived. Instead of the car crunching data locally, commands are processed by remote, cloud-based systems and then beamed back to the vehicle. 5G connections will help eliminate the potential lag that has made reliance on distant clusters of computers problematic.

Cars' own computers are more sophisticated. Dozens of electronic control units under the hood have been replaced by centralized systems linked to the cloud. But even when the cellular signal is weak, cars have enough edge computing power to process requests.

Natural language processing has improved. Advancements in AI and machine learning allow the car to understand not only what the driver said, but also the intent, and respond accordingly. Plus, the vehicle can remember what to do next time.

Acoustics are better. Technology can filter out ambient noise in the car, such as air vents, an open sunroof, sound systems or tire noise, to focus on the human voice.

No more apologies for being a man! Best-selling social commentator Anthony Esolen draws on timeless wisdom to defend the masculine virtues of strength, drive, ambition, and determination in building and upholding civilization itself.

It's time to end the apology tour for traditional masculinity. A generation of young men and boys are being raised in self-loathing, taught that the core of their identity as men is not only abhorrent, but is responsible for most, if not all, of humanity's ills.

In No Apologies, veteran author and professor, Anthony Esolen, issues a powerful defense of the virtues of masculine strength. From the thankless brute force of the nameless men who erected buildings, paved roads, and cleared the ground upon which human society stands, to the boundless energy of youth that compelled centuries of global exploration, to the father's embodied authority as protector, director, and exemplar of law and justice, Esolen shows how civilization has rested upon the strength of men.

With his customary wisdom and wit, Esolen draws on two millenia of historical thought, introducing his readers to giants such as Plato, Augustine, Aquinas, Tello, Solzhenitsyn, and even Mark Twain and smee to present a vigorous and timely defense of the masculine ethos.

Great ‘eye discipline!’ Beaming Kyle Rittenhouse pic with busty Lara Logan lookalike draws A LOT of eyes
May 5, 2022

A photo of Kyle Rittenhouse that’s been shared on social media is getting extra attention for some eyebrow-raising reasons.

The teen who was acquitted of killing two people and shooting another during riots in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 2020 was seen in a photo purportedly from Mar-a-Lago, the Florida resort home of former President Donald Trump.

Rittenhouse is all smiles in the photo but many Twitter users commended his “eye discipline” and restraint as he is pictured next to a woman who is reportedly former “60 Minutes” investigative journalist Lara Logan.

“Kyle Rittenhouse – trigger discipline, eye discipline,” tweeted Jack Posobiec.

There was some speculation from Twitter users about whether the woman is actually Logan.

There were also many who wondered what Rittenhouse had in his jacket pocket.

But, by far, there was just one thing – actually two – that seemed to be the center of attention.

No easy fix for Montello’s
water issues

ADELLA HARDING Elko Daily Correspondent
Aug 24, 2021

Montello’s water woes will take time to resolve but Elko County Commissioners and county staff are continuing their efforts, and residents of the Montello area are still interested in the idea of forming a general improvement district.

“Elko County will continue to work on developing multiple avenues to do everything we can to maintain water and rights for the people who use the South Line,” Elko County Commissioner Delmo Andreozzi proposed as a motion at the end of the commissioners’ Aug. 18 meeting in Montello.

The motion passed, and Elko County Manager Amanda Osborne said later that the county’s avenues will include filing an extension for permits.

She said the state “will determine the length of time the permits will be extended for. Last time, we were approved for a three-year extension.”

Montello is served by the North Line that was constructed in the late 1980s or early 1990s, but at least 13 properties use the South Line, even though the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection doesn’t list the water as potable. The South Line is used for stock watering and more, according to those on the line.

The eight-mile south water line was constructed in the 1920s.

Issues involving the south water line were exacerbated when the Winecup-Gamble Ranch and the Pilot Valley Ranch claimed vested water rights on the springs that feed the water line, and the State of Nevada only extended permits for three years instead of five as it sought proof of beneficial use.

Corey Rice, the county’s senior planner, told those at Montello that vested water rights start out as claims, and anyone claiming vested rights must show proof. The State Engineer’s Office would have to adjudicate.

Union Pacific Railroad deeded water rights to the town of Montello years ago, but Elko County is over Montello because the town is not incorporated. The water rights were designated for Montello’s use, but the current south line users are outside the town limits, which is one of the issues.

Montello’s water troubles came before the county’s Natural Resources Management Advisory Commission on July 26, and the panel recommended this month that the county take no action but look at seeking the extension of time on the current permit.

The county’s resources manager, Curtis Moore, said the south water line would cost millions of dollars to upgrade, and he said the county must show beneficial use to keep the rights.

“The water is still flowing perfectly fine. Repairs are not something that needs to be done all at once,” said Montello area resident Kimberly Greening at the July 26 meeting.

The resources commission also urged the county commissioners to get the other parties interested in the south water line water rights to come before the resource commission to look at solutions and that the county find out what it would take for the NDEP to deem the south water line water safe for drinking. That would allow the line to be a backup for the town.

Zachary Woodbury on the resources panel also expressed his surprise that Elko County has been charging the users of the south water line for years.

“I can’t believe the county did that,” he said at the July 26 meeting, when he also said the Montello water issues are “exceptionally complicated.”

The users on the south water line pay a $45 connection fee per month.

The town of Montello also sells potable water to users who live outside the town boundaries, but that water is from the north water line.

The formation of a GID is another avenue that Montello area residents are interested in pursuing to cover not just the unincorporated town of Montello but the neighboring rural properties in eastern Elko County.

Greening told commissioners at the Aug. 18 meeting that an informal survey of people in the Montello area showed that 98% were interested in a general improvement district, which would manage Montello water and the water in the vicinity of Montello.

Montello residents first talked about the GID at the county’s July 7 meeting, reporting then that they had consulted an attorney suggested the GID.

Another avenue that could help resolve water issues is the proposed expansion of the boundaries for the Montello Advisory Board.

Commissioners agreed to study the impacts of expanding the township boundaries, but any change in boundaries would require an ordinance change. Chairman Jon Karr said there would be two readings and possibly the need for a business impact statement to change boundaries.

An advisory board could be created that would include the outlying areas, and the county’s agenda for the Montello meeting suggested the name could be the Toana Valley Advisory Board. Currently, there is a Montello town advisory board.

That board has three members but an expanded one could have five members, according to the discussion, and Andreozzi said the new board should have an orientation packet and prepare and archive agendas for meetings.

Commissioner Wilde Brough said the advisory board would be designed “so you guys can take care of yourselves.”

Montello residents want answers on water rights, pipeline

ADELLA HARDING Elko Daily Correspondent

ELKO – Water issues are making a splash in Montello, and Elko County Commissioners hope to have a clearer picture of water rights and consider solutions at their Aug. 18 meeting in Montello.

Commissioners on July 7 instructed county staff to research the concerns in the meantime, after hearing from residents who want to protect their water rights and the use of an older water line.

“Our team will be getting on it,” said Chairman Jon Karr.

Staff will be looking at the potential for forming a general improvement district that one resident brought up at the meeting, as well as looking at Montello water rights, a Nevada Division of Water Resources permit that expires later this year, and why a property owner is reportedly locking water collection boxes inhibiting county maintenance.

Commissioner Delmo Andreozzi likened the water issues to “peeling back the layers of an onion to understand what’s happening.”

The research will include looking into water rights the Union Pacific Railroad years ago reportedly gave to Montello for community use.

Commissioner Cliff Eklund said he understood that Union Pacific said if the water rights were not used by the town, they would revert to UP. However, he had heard the railroad was no longer interested in the water rights and may have sold them.

Originally, Montello received water from the south line that was installed in the 1920s and was the community’s source until about 30 years ago when Elko County installed the north water line, according to the county’s natural resource director, Curtis Moore.

He said the eight-mile south line is old and breaks, and the Nevada Division of Water Resources says the water from that line is not safe to drink. He also said the county planner, Corey Rice, has said it is costing more to maintain the south line than it is worth.

The agenda for the July 7 meeting stated that staff is recommending the county no longer maintain the south line and not extend the permits from the Nevada Division of Resources, as well as consider shutting down the line or selling the pipeline to interested parties.

The county’s three-year permit extension from the state for the south line expires in the fall. Moore said the county sought a five-year extension, but water resources would only extend for three years for the county to show beneficial use.

Commissioner Rex Steninger questioned why people using the water would not be considered a beneficial use.

Commissioner Wilde Brough, who visited Montello last month to talk about the water issues, said the proposal to sell the south line was “merely an idea. Frankly, it sounded like a good idea.” He said there are 13 people on the line that could cost millions of dollars to fix, and that made no economic sense.

“There is nothing to get mad about. We need people to come forward to tell us what you want us to do,” Brough said.

Moore also said Montello’s water issues have become more “interesting the past couple of years” because nearby ranchland was sold, and the new owner is “hostile” to Elko County’s water rights.

Although the south line no longer supplies drinking water to Montello, people on the line use the water for livestock, irrigation and even drinking water, according to resident Ty Corbin, who accused the county of malfeasance and asked for a full audit of money spent on water lines.

“The water is being used and has been for years and years,” he said.

“We want to take back our water,” said Kimberly Greening, who presented commissioners with a petition signed by roughly 80 area residents asking them to table any action until they could find a better resolution to the issues.

“As the residents of Montello and the rightful owners of the water rights, we say NO to the selling of our water and NO to the water gouging and we say NO to shutting down the watering station in Montello,” the petition states.

Commissioners decided after hearing from several Montello area residents to table any action until the Aug. 18 meeting.

Area resident Kent Evans said a group of seven residents consulted an attorney who recommended forming a general improvement district for the Montello area that could be eligible for grant money and be a potential solution to the water dilemma.

“We are prepared to spend money to create the GID,” he said, asking the county for documentation to help with the proposal.

He also said there are concerns that the water station in Montello that sells water to people outside the town limits could be shut down. Brough said he understood the station does not follow state place-of-use guidelines because the water goes out of town.

The fill station in Montello is for area residents not on the town’s water service to obtain drinking water, said Jim Kerr of the county’s public works department. The users have contracts for the water.

Kerr also told commissioners that 10 years ago the estimate for replacing the south line and updating the collection boxes and bringing the water up to drinking standards was $2.5 million, so the cost would be much higher now. The county would need grant money, he said.

Currently, the town of Montello pays for the upkeep on the south line, even though all the town’s drinking water comes from the north line, Moore said.

Chief Civil Deputy District Attorney Rand Greenburg said there is no lawsuit against the county regarding the water rights at Montello, but the county may need to take legal action to access spring boxes on the south line.

Commissioners will be meeting in Montello and West Wendover for their Aug. 18 meeting, with times to be determined later.

Letter: Montello’s water belongs to Montello
Aug 26, 2014

Editor: On Aug. 1 the water users in the town of Montello received some promising letters from the Elko County Public Works, concerning the use of the water supplying Montello. I feel the letters are threatening and blackmail; other people may feel different.

Myself and other users feel we are in line with the Tomeras and Bundys being lorded over by the government concerning water and sewage.

The letter states that if the water usage is not followed by government rules they will notify us and we have five days to correct the problem or off goes the water (cut our legs off).

I have been a farmer and a damn good one for all of my adult life and I know about the use of water. I pumped mine from wells and every drop cost me money. The production of water for Montello costs nothing.

The only good thing about water is if it is used beneficially by man, you can’t save it for yourself or your children.

Like the Tomeras and his grass, he owns it. The town of Montello has a lifetime use of the water and conveyances from the Central Pacific now Union Pacific Railroad; in essence, the town of Montello owns the water.

The government says we are causing harm by the usage to the pressure and supply. Why save it and let it run down an open ditch to waste?

I have been to the water tanks, even before the rain. Since the new tank was installed the water has been going down the ditch for the most part.

Maybe like the Tomeras and Bundys we in Montello should get more publicity. Maybe on their ride to Washington they could take a little of Montello’s water with them. Then give Obama a little speech about our water.

I have called Montello my home since September 1939. In all the years the town belonged to Southern Pacific Railroad, we were never rationed on water.

What harm can you do to the water by using it? The government says you can and they have the key. That is another way to get more money from the public. Help!

Letter: Talking trash in Montello
Aug 3, 2013

Editor: From reading the June 27 article “Down in the Dumps — One Man’s Trash Is Another Man’s Tax Burden” — outsiders might draw the conclusion that Montello and Pilot Valley is inhabited by the feral outcasts of humanity.

Chief Financial Officer Cash Minor whose stellar salary from the public purse is $124,231.06, states that residents from the above mentioned communities are not paying their share of sanitation costs. When asked how many were not paying their bills his only response was “a lot of people.” Such an answer is worrisome coming from a CFO. How much time does he spend monitoring the finances of Elko County?

County Commissioner Charlie Myers, who feels he might be “in Obamaland right now” and whose stellar salary from the public purse for his part-time job is $40,708.36, frets about not being able to shut off sanitation services to those who don’t pay. He opines that others in Elko County should not have to pick up the tab.

Did it not occur to these two gentlemen that a few retirees might be absent during the winter? Would Minor and Myers pay for a service they are not receiving?

Some commissioners seem to be under the impression that there is door-to-door garbage pickup in these communities. This is not the case. Hauling our garbage to the sanitation bin in Montello means a round trip of 7 miles to 14 miles, depending on where one lives.

One wonders whether Mr. Minor and Mr. Myers “fret” over the fact that the residents of Montello and Pilot Valley help subsidize, through property taxes, the privately run Northeastern Nevada Museum; the senior center in Wells, and I might mention the 1980s South Fork Dam project.

Many in the Montello and Pilot Valley area have lived there for 30 years or longer. They haven’t cost the taxpayers of Elko County anything. They maintain the roads to their property; paid for their own culverts; sewer and water, electricity and telephone service. They cleared acres of sagebrush and planted thousands of trees, turning the desert into an oasis.

Minor and Myers should leave Cloud-Cuckoo-Land. What they both need is a good dose of reality.

Down in the Dumps: One man’s trash is another man’s tax burden
By DYLAN WOOLF HARRIS -Jun 27, 2013
ELKO — In addition to paying for their own garbage services, county residents paid more than $100,000 over the past two years to cover waste removal for those who refused to pay their bills.

The county commission recently moved about $101,000 from a capital project fund to pay for solid waste disposal. The county contracts waste removal services for multiple sanitation districts that don’t have their own dumps. Many residents in the district that encompass Montello and Pilot Valley simply don’t pay their waste bill, leaving everyone else to pick up the tab, according to County Assistant Manager Cash Minor.

Minor wasn’t sure how many residents in the Montello-Pilot Valley sanitation district weren’t paying, but estimated it to be “a lot of people.”

The commission begrudgingly approved the reappropriation Monday.

“We’ve got to do something about this,” Commissioner Charlie Myers said. “I know you can’t shut off the service, I guess, because of the type of service it is, but there are liens and things like that.”

He said it wasn’t fair for county taxpayers to pay for garbage service in an outlying community.

“Some people choose not to participate in it or choose not to pay their bill, and somebody else is paying for them. I feel like we’re in Obamaland right now,” Myers said.

Minor said regulations passed in the late 1990s required small landfills to adhere to certain standards. At that time, the county closed many landfills and created sanitation districts. The county began contracting garbage-hauling services and sent residents the bill.

Commissioner Grant Gerber, who frequently criticizes federal policy, said government regulations are primarily to blame.

“Montello should be able to have their own solid waste pit. They shouldn’t have to haul all of that clear to Elko. It makes no sense. It’s never made any sense,” he said.

Gerber suggested the county send an annual letter to the area’s congressional delegation arguing that point.

“If enough people complain about it enough times, we will eventually get it turned,” he said.

Commissioner Jeff Williams wondered why the county couldn’t refuse to collect garbage until bills were paid. Myers said if no one collects garbage the residents will dump trash illegally — for which there is little recourse unless the individual is caught in the act.

“That becomes an issue for the county,” Myers said.

“Frankly, in 1998 when it was first changed, you saw some of that. People were dumping garbage,” Minor said after the meeting.

Myers suggested the commission explore solutions with county attorney Kristin McQueary.

“We need to have it as an agenda item and give us our options,” Commission Chairman Glen Guttry said. “... People in the city shouldn’t be subsidizing. All of us are subsidizing other folks that don’t play by the rules.”

“People in the city shouldn’t be subsidizing. All of us are subsidizing other folks that don’t play by the rules.”

Three-truck pileup on I-80
By CALEY COOK - and DYLAN WOOLF-HARRIS -Oct 24, 2012

WELLS — A semi-truck that jackknifed in the middle of Interstate 80 at the Pequop Mountains summit Monday afternoon caused a three-truck pileup that closed the highway for four hours and caused massive traffic delays into the evening, according to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Jim Stewart.

All three truck drivers had minor injuries from the pileup on the west of the summit, according to Stewart, though the NHP report indicated only George Soriano, 55, of Tracy, Calif., was transported to Northeast Nevada Regional Hospital.

“The truck in the middle of the pileup was completely crushed,” said Montello resident Ron Tello Culley, who was the second motorist on the scene of the accident.

Westbound lanes were completely closed from about 1:30-4:30 p.m. and the fastlane on the eastbound side was also closed for periods of time. The third truck jackknifed across the median and into the fast lane of the eastbound side after the collision, forcing the NHP to run traffic controls to remove debris.

The truck trailer was across the westbound lanes when another truck came around the bend. While it was able to stop in time, a third truck came around the corner and slammed into both vehicles, according to NHP reports.

“The driver of the first truck said that a gust of wind caused it to jackknife, but we’re still investigating,” said Stewart.

The third truck’s brakes may have locked up when he hit the brakes, Stewart said.

Sahaj Preet Singh, 21, of Turlock, Calif., drove the first truck, owned by Kahlon Trucking. Eileen Kay Piehl, 56, of Aberdeen, Calif., drove the second semi, owned by Long Haul Trucking.

Montello Stabbing: Alleged assailant detained by victim
Jul 26, 2006

ELKO — A victim of a stabbing detained the man who reportedly attacked him until deputies could arrive Wednesday in Montello.

When deputies arrived at the Cowboy Bar the suspect, Edward Joseph Gallagher, was lying on the ground outside the bar and several other people, including the victim, Bud Christiansen, 45, of Grantsville, Utah, were standing.

Christiansen was holding his stomach and had blood on his shirt, according to the deputy’s report.

“According to dispatch the victim had been sitting on the suspect to detain him,” said Mary Pitts, sheriff’s office public relations officer.

After being treated at the scene, Christiansen refused to be transported to the hospital.

Christiansen and Gallagher, 34, of Montello had been fighting outside the bar, deputies said. Gallagher was standing behind his wife when he allegedly reached under his wife’s arm in a fast motion toward Christiansen.

“The victim felt something in his stomach and then saw the knife in Gallagher’s hand and realized he had been stabbed,” deputies said.

Elko County Sheriff Neil Harris said the knife was a folding pocketknife.

Christiansen punched Gallagher and then detained him until deputies arrived.

Gallagher was arrested on a charge of battery with a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $5,000.

Gallagher’s wife, Sarah, fled, according to police.

:tello: "She ran into my house next door. When I learned what was going on, I told her 'You ran from the scene, making you a bit of a fugitive and I can't have you here right now'. She ran away."

The incident remains under investigation.

Detectives believe woman’s death is suicide
Mar 29, 2011

MONTELLO — A week after their investigation started, Elko County sheriff’s detectives released a statement regarding a Montello woman found dead March 20 northwest of the town.

According to detective Cpl. Jim Carpenter, deputies and detectives were called to Montello where they found the body of Sarah Gallagher, 34, in a field. It is believed Gallagher died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot.

:tello: "According to the word on the street, she was shot and killed with her brother Eric's pistol, by 'Preacher John' Gregory, but it was never investigated. Elko Sheriffs are lazy that way."

Carpenter said detectives have talked with several people in Montello and the surrounding area about Gallagher and her last known location.

Gallagher’s body has been sent to the Washoe County Medical Examiner for examination to help determine details surrounding the cause of death.

Carpenter said he didn’t release the information until Monday because the investigation was ongoing with people not yet interviewed, and he wanted to “make sure the information we release is thorough and accurate.”

Ron, I don't know exactly what to say.
I can know that you are feeling this situation badly, and that you feel rightly angry and upset by this senseless waste of someone that you knew and for whom you had feelings in those younger years.
From what you've said, people who should have cared for Sarah let her down, so that she didn't have the strength to fight the problems that came with some of her life choices, and that she didn't have the caring security of people who were there for her to give her some good advice when she needed it. The poor girl... She must have seen no point in continuing to live, and she was very possibly in a deep and terrifying state of depression.
How awful that no one with professional expertise close to her picked up on the danger...
Also from what you've said, you were afraid of this happening as soon as you heard she was missing with a gun.
I hope you don't blame yourself. Please don't - you could not have known; you weren't there as her carer and she seems to have gone down a dark path a long time ago.
All you can do is hold on the memory of the girl she was. You must have some great memories of her before the problems hit...
Take care,
- Ingrid

Trump Quietly ‘Encouraged’ Elon Musk to Buy Twitter: Truth Social CEO
A little behind the scenes insight.
May 5, 2022

The former congressman, who heads the former president’s social media platform Truth Social, said Wednesday they urged Elon Musk to buy Twitter.

Trump Media & Technology Group CEO Devin Nunes argues Elon Musk is giving the American people their voices back.

Nunes told Stuart Varney, during an episode of the Fox Business show “Varney & Company,” that they don’t view Twitter as competition. The former California representative informed Varney that Trump actually told Musk to go ahead and buy Twitter.

“The goal of our company is to build a community where people are in a family-friendly, safe environment,” explained Nunes, adding that it is much different than Twitter. “And, that’s why we encouraged Elon Musk to buy it because someone has to continue taking on these tech tyrants. Donald Trump wanted to make sure that the American people got their voice back and the Internet is open.”

Another difference between the two apps is the 45th president who has publicly announced he will not return to Twitter even if the deal is completed. Truth Social may have a “louder” platform because the former president can make a post go viral if he decides to “Trump it.”

“I am not going on Twitter, I am going to stay on Truth,” Trump said, according to a New York Post report. “I hope Elon buys Twitter because he’ll make improvements to it and he is a good man, but I am going to be staying on Truth.”

The Truth Social CEO said that the company is focused on where the social media users in this country are.

“They’re clearly not on Twitter,” said Nunes. “People get much more engagement on our platform even though we’ve barely been open for just a little over a week. And that’s just on Apple.”

He noted that Facebook and Instagram have hundreds of millions of Americans but said it was concerning that Chinese-owned TikTok also has hundreds of millions of Americans using the platform.

The former president’s answer to Twitter is trying to merge the best of Facebook, Instagram and TikTok on Truth Social. “With the key being: we can’t be cancelled,” Nunes stated, “because we built this without using any big tech.”

Trump’s anti-Twitter plans are to open the platform to the entire web with a web app, which Nunes called “very exciting,” noting the company already has a very growing, vibrant community.

“It’s a lot of fun being on our platform,” concluded Nunes.
