It is a curious fact.  The other night the only people who could access this forum were me, Smee and Lacey.  Noone else could get in.

Now not one of us can access the forum (in my case via my usual way that I accessed the other night, TPG) and everyone else who couldn't get in back then now can?  I have flushed DNS more times than my toilet so it isn't that.  Cache too, but that doesn't hold up anyway because I am using the same computer and IE to access once I activated my dongle with another IP.

So it would appear that the restriction for some is IP specific in some way.  ?????

If this wasn't so seriously frustrating
i'd make more dongle jokes
but I will (almost) refrain
cause I think senses of humor are being tested somewhat during this phase of site 'issues' for the forum!
but the old 'lipton tea' jingle comes to my mind .....

'you jingle in a cup
you dongle in a pot ....'

Well Cent us ducks have more than one way to pluck a duck.   I'm lucky to have an alternative method.  Be worse for those who know the forum is up but still can't access at all.

That being said, we know that our dear Countess must be tearing her lovely long blond hair out trying to fix all this.  I think the guys over thair in the US need a good spanking.  :spank: :spank: :spank:

Yes..And a keel hauling as well? Is ubbie in? ;D

It must terrible for the countessa. And it is hard when people know the forum is up and nothing they know how to do will gain access.

I tried different browsers and cleaned, flushed, restarted, chewed Mentos and muttered curses each time I was whipped away when I had gained access, and all that did was give me a sugar overdose and cause OH to keep earphones glued to his head--- Not a bit of help :shakehead:

A keelhauling? Who mentioned a keelhauling? I'm ready. We should have a ceremonial keelhauling to celebrate the fixing of the Oz Roundtable (for most).

Who will we keelhaul?

May I suggest people to try with third party DNS server as in www.opendns.com?

Please excuse my computer dumbnerosity Fluffy but, what does TPG mean?

There are many abbreviations used in computer talk that I don't know

TPG is simply my broadband internet service provider Birdie.

BTW, it has just gone down again.   When I say TPG has gone down, it has not actually gone down.  I can access all other sites I wish to go to.  Just can't access this site.

I am back to using my dongle.  lol

Struth Fluffy. I hope the provider gets it right quickly. I believe our site is not the only one effected.

Well Yib, I'd have to say I've never played with a dongle so much before.  It's quite enjoyable once you get used to it.

I believe that Smee plays with one a lot.

I just refreshed the OZRT & the dreaded server not a goer sign appeared. Ten seconds later I did it again & it worked. I don't think the provider has completely rectified the problem yet.

I am having copious discussions with the server people. They too are tearing out their hair. They've shown me screenshots of the sites being up, and yet Tello cannot get in... I can get in sometimes, but at other times it's down for me (on several different computers, and on my iPhone)...

Poddy! Is there a backbone issue at the moment? Could that be contributing to the problem? What's going on? Save our hair...!

Countess, We have had a couple of recent issues getting in too, the last being yesterday evening. "Server Not Known". Saved email links led to the same message. All appears good at the moment.

The really distressing thing is that other sites with dedicated IP addresses on the same cluster are also having problems (and they're commercial sites).

When I run a traceroute on them, the result is "unable to resolve target system name". It IS enough to make Kojaks of us all.

Unfortunately, these things do happen - often and generally outside our control. Interestingly - I can't locate Ron Tello's website either.... and haven't been able to for the past few days.

Gr8 said he was taking time to attend to real life.

After his house cleaning exercise, it seems he had a lot of stuff (books) he needed to clear out and I believe he is focussing on that.

At a guess, I'd say the timing of the problems here would have been a blessing in disguise for him - since it took away the temptation to 'just duck in and say hello' ... so he's likely gotten stuck into the things he said he had to do.

I'm sure he'll be back ... when things are under control.

There still seems to be an intermittent problem with the site... quite a few avatars are missing from view tonight... it's unlikely so many would have broken links to where their avatars are stored, I can only assume it's a site / server problem / Glitch...
