Title: Dust, Dust Everywhere !!!!

At 5 am this morning in the Sydney Blue Mountains region.... before dawn broke I went outside to put out some laundry (keen eh lol) it took a few minutes to register what I was seeing there was a thick peculiar brownish mist, I stood there washing basket in my arms thinking what the...the wind was ferocious and howling around the corner of the house.

My immediate thought was Bushfire!!!, then the smell hit me..your kidding.. DUST!

It was so thick, no washing on the line today I thought it would either end up a few miles away or coated in a thick red sludge so I headed back inside, as the sun was coming up there was an incredibly eerie red glow that saturated the scenery where ever you looked, and the wind was still howling around the house like a forlorn spirit lol

My car, the verandah, all my outdoor furniture, potplants, garden and the pool, well pretty much everything outside is all coated in a good thick layer...clean up is going to be a Pita, it may be very windy and limbs coming off the trees but do you think it would blow that dust away.. not a chance it's sticking like glue to everything :(

Snipe...yeah Liisa....we've been 'blown away'....sky was orange on the South Coast at dawn, so hazy it looked like bushfire season...lol.

Liisa..... I was going to do some top dressing this weekend. Looks like I won't have to bother. Although, I wouldn't have top dressed the pool either!

Have a special happening on brown sheets at the moment. These are signature series (two long marks where the Beagle tried to catch a Soldier bird earlier this morning)

Biggest dust storm in 70 years, according to the news. The Supreme Commanders car is red with dust, mine is OK as it is under the carport.

I was going to got do some archery practice todsy but high winds make it too dangerous.

I hear you R38, I think your in the same area(ish) as me so I feel your pain lol, I had added fresh mulch to the gardens this weekend past and now it's adorning the lawn.. sigh.

Ubb, playing boomarang with arrows doesn't sound like a good idea either lol

Cupie I'm amazed at how far reaching it is.

Your not wrong. I'm in the Penrith dust bowl! Appreciate the load of dirt you've sent so far..... still awaiting the mulch to arrive ;D


Ubbrd.... the dust shouldn't affect your arrows.... just keep your range to below five metres...... ooh, hang on..... just looked outside at the mobile sandpit.... better make that three metres!

Hi guy's, we had this a few years back in Victoria, air conditioner mechanics were rubbing their hands together, made work for them for the months !....

Apparently it clogs everything, filters and electric motor windings, if the unit runs too long in a dust storm it will become useless....hence cleaning all the units for months to get through all the back log.....so I'm told.

Not a good time to drive the car without an air filter either.....

Goodness.. the power of wind and dust together create something of remarkable beauty and weirdness when seen from a distance, but it's more than annoying when you're close to it. Dust in your throat, dust in your eyes, dust on your face, dust on your hands, on your clothes, on everything and in everything, choking up and clogging up things with moving parts...

Na...poddy, no camera....too busy stumbling downstairs to the kitchen to get a coffee...lol...oh and closing all the remaining open windows...lol

Last night when the thunder was going off, I had a very heavy german shepherd flying through the darkness onto the bed, trying to escape....'The Sky Monsters'.....lmao.  Not a nice way to wake up I can tell you.  His sister just snores her head off, couldn't care less.

Yeah, we get some whammer-jammers on occaision. Dust devils a-plenty.

3 years ago, in my studio, I was on the phone with my insurance agent.
The front door wasn't shut.

A big duster came blowing in and I exclaimed "Holy shite! A tornado just busted into here!"

The agent said, "That'll cost ya more".

LOL!

Lol poddy...actually i did formely sell grog....but back in those heady days me and grog had a sort of Shining thing going on....tee hee. Nah im just a bookshop but ive got some diehard loyal supporters. I would have gone under like most others round here after the 2007 june storms but the freaks just kept walking thru the doors despite the floodwaters outside....people round here are weird

Sorry about the dust.....all my fault I'm afraid...lol
No..they reckon it came from Lake Eyre and that is even further west than me....
I have no pics to post...gave up taking them years ago..I'm waiting for the season to change and
Ill start taking pictures again with "green" in them

Just popped in for lunch and thought I would see who was lurking...if anyone has got all the dust out of
their house and still feeling energetic......shite load of work to do here...lol
Well better get my big girl panties back on and get back out there...winds are slowing dieing down here.. :biggirlpants:

liisa, i believe there is a chance there will be more dust coming, but the wind will not be as strong as yesterday.

Supposed to be some pretty strong wind arriving early Friday morning.

This summer will be bad.

Yep we're in for another round....change coming in overnight and off we go again.....too bad the council just put down grass seed on our brand spanking new front verge, that will be off growing in the National Park somewhere...lol.

A friend washed her car.....hehehehe....and now she'll be washing it again....mines gone from gold to Red...but I'm fine with that till these late August winds are finished...lol...hate washing the car.

I woke up early this morning and I could smell it.....blearghhh more dust!

Not as bad as the other day but still, it was a yellowish smoggy looking show, the winds were stronger and foolishly I had washed the car the other day...  :vent:
