***eBay checkout update for 2011***
http://www.ozroundtable.com/index.php?topic=345.new#new
eBay checkout is undergoing improvements to include the key features and services you require, such as:
Payment Gateway: eBay's improved checkout functionality will allow sellers to offer credit card processing through Payflow and Cyber source gateways. Currently scheduled for late 2010, we will alert sellers when this is available.
So, eBay checkout will soon offer seller's a real alternative payment option to PayPal - an integrated creditcard gateway through checkout.
Yes folks, coming soon to eBay - PayPal Payflow gateway!

so what's the deal ??
as a seller do I need merchant facilities ??
or do paypal process the credit card ?? .... for a fee one would imagine
this could explain why ebay has dumped all third party check outs ............ so ebay can grab more fees

Yes a fee, not sure how Payflow compares to other payment gateways. This is the pricing on their website (may be different to what is offered for eBay checkout)

The way I read it, sellers would still need a merchant account with their bank.

that being the case bank will take their percentage for doing bu***r all and paypal will take their percentage on top
the real point is that the impression I was given when I spoke with all 4 of the 'big' banks is that they are more likely to give merchant facilities to a nigerian internet scam artist then they would to any low life vermin that sells on eBay

why did my word bug ger get censored ??
-
bnwt, you can always write buggar, that gets through the filters ok.
-
We have just started a website and are using PayPal express - no merchant account needed. Buyers can either log into their PayPal account to pay or use CreditCard via PayPal. Or they can pay direct into our bank account. ;D

As wheels said bnwt the automated naughty word robot filter isn't the greatest speller... buggger mi dead... LOL

Merchant accounts are not as costly as you may think. The convenience and security of being able to process payments myself (and check the credit card with the issuing bank if I have any doubts about the transaction) is an enormous plus for me. I also know for certain that my bank will never suddenly impose a hold on my funds for some unexplained reason.
PM me if you'd like to know how much I pay per month. It's extremely reasonable.
