Title: Something stolen?..or lost? Interesting new site.
Post by: Roo on November 23, 2009, 09:37:19 PM
I came across a fairly new site today....

http://www.stolenproperty.com.au/Default.aspx

Not much there yet...but it has a few good points.

I have it in my favourites...and might even post something about 'Who stole Roo's Loo!'..lol

When numbers increase...it may be  good adition to Ebay searches when it has more stuff advertised.

Does anyone else have a link similar?

Pretty nifty site Roo. I've added it to Favourites too.
I hope I get something stolen so I can list it on the site, I better go & photograph everything I own, It'll take me months!

I had a very beautiful coat stolen four years ago.

I suppose it's too late to list it now... *sob* I loved that coat.

I guess it would be a little late to advertise the loo that was stolen from my place too...but if anyone ever decideds to do that again...at least I will have the satisfaction of advertising my loss ...and who knows?  Stranger things have happened...lol

After a quick look, I like the idea - but I have a couple of reservations.

1. I can only see this working with any effectiveness if the item is put up for sale on an broad audience sales channel, such as eBay, OZtion or Trading Post (online or print).
2. After looking at some of the listings, people are going to have to provide photos. Also, that those photos are decent and useful - showing identifying features.  All to often, people don't have any when something gets nicked and then it's a bit late...!
3. I haven't looked too hard, but is there any indication as to how the site's effectiveness is to be communicated?  It would need to show success to draw in more listings.
4. What controls are there for preventing malicious or false entries?

I'm not against the idea at all, just consider me playing devil's advocate  .

I have bookmarked that site. Thank you ,roo.

Unfortunately it would be too late to find some items of ours, but could be very helpful if anything goes missing in the future.

Great link Roo.

There is a thread for stolen bikes on one of the Aus cycling forums and it is used a lot - not sure whether any ever get returned though. Most serious cyclists will recognize if someone is riding a different bike - especially the high end (very expensive) bikes.

[edit]
I just checked and it's actually a whole board with a thread for each reported bike stolen, because there are so many!!  :o

For a fee Gr8, for a fee.

A rather large fee in your case, 'cause you mind has been well and truly lost

lol

(just kidding)
