Could it be because many sellers on eBay are not 'real businesses'?...and don't want to openly disclose that they are selling goods online?.....or is it just apathy...?
JMO, but I think you are looking at two aspects that really don't play any major part in the lack of seller 'involvement'.
and I have to figure that's because they are not declaring profits or income...and I think Ebay know this.....
Again, JMO, but I think that is way off the mark for most sellers. The ACCC isn't going to care about tax - and the ATO can get pretty involved as it is, if they care to. I don't think eBay care a fig, either way ... they don't need to.
Things that I HAVE seen in various discussions is -
- that sellers are concerned that if they 'stir the pot' they will draw negative attention from eBay and PayPal, so prefer to keep a low profile. Paranoid perhaps, but it's a risk they aren't prepared to take.
- the sense that each seller is 'on their own' and cannot see how they can make any sort of difference as an individual
- the time and potential cost of taking on eBay is waaaaaayy outside their capacity - they are just scrambling as it is to make ends meet
- eBay's and PayPal's ability (or absolute lack thereof) to be held accountable as it is discourages any thoughts of victory
These are several of the reasons why I am presenting the PayPal Mission Impossible thread. We have a seller who has the principles, drive and resources to take them on - and I'm presenting his story as a means of uniting sellers by showing them their problems aren't unique and demonstrating what
can be done.
Apathy is not a word I would use - "Demoralised" is more the right thought .... and both eBay and PayPal are champions at creating that feeling.
