There will always be armchair jurors.

One key problem is their disconnection from the actual events combined with their own beliefs and experiences (or lack thereof) where prejudgment sets in before evidence is considered.  Finding someone with a truly 'open mind' is a difficult task.

Even then, the process of choosing, presenting and interpreting the available evidence is highly influenced by people with vested interests. Thus, the first casualty will be objectivity.  The media, for example, while purporting to be providing a service to the community are still bound by the commercial necessity of business and, as such, media reports must be viewed with this in mind, IMHO.

Come to think of it, this same battle occurs in the courtroom.  Neither side are really interested in determining the full and accurate scenario, just to present a story that will win their case. Cherry-picked details from the body of evidence, combined with passionate story-telling will be the ammunition from the side that should lose while the side that should win struggles with a body of truth that inevitably includes flaws which should be inconsequential - but are jumped upon and blown out of all proportion.

I suppose the only real difference between a court of law and the court of popular opinion is that a court of law has a formal structure of proceedings where rules of conduct are defined (and, hopefully, enforced) and a case is presented from both sides.

From that point it would seem 'justice' is a matter of perspective, not law, and the cynic in me feels it may be just as well decided by the toss of a coin.

My act was not premeditated, as the DA would have you believe.
My act was "predicted".
___________________________________________________

That is a very important distinction.

It is parallel to the situation where a student is being bullied in the playground.  When the bully goes too far, the student reacts in a manner that is wholly predictable - but that student doesn't deliberately set out with the intention to take that action.

In fact, this whole situation has a number of uncanny parallels to schoolyard bullying...

The bully, being familiar with the 'system' plays it right up to the edge, harassing the target.
The target does not react for any number of reasons - whether it be because of threats, peer pressure, the fact that they want to be a good citizen or they have reported the encounters and are relying on the 'system' to protect them - and they continue to be tormented.
The bully goes one step too far and the target reacts but, from across the playground, all the teacher sees is the target lashing out, attacking the bully.
From that point on, the extensive period of consistent, relentless bullying experienced by the target counts for nothing (being a boring blurb from one individual that wouldn't make the first ten pages of the evening paper) against the single moment when they cracked which produced a very dramatic picture that would have appeared on page one of an extra.

Hi Ed, I'll be brief as to the true nature of my ambitions. Elko did me wrong and then went too far in 2013. Perhaps you know about that shooting incident. Links at The Ron in facebook tell that tale. I have been in exile from Montello for 6 years. Im in Big Bear Ca and must return in the summer...my mission here is done. My finaces are in shambles, I have physical limkitations, BUT MY MIND IS STILL VIABLE. I thot about how to monetize my house/store. Obvious: A Studio. Media...TelloVision! It's my only skill set remaining...I can talk and entertain.

What's more: the hoodlums in town remain after the cops set them free. I wanna use that shite as source material too, but not exclusively. I wanna gather up interested people to my house for a day and a week to clean it up and a show of force to the local lackeys. I am nobody's punk. As such, let there be Life in a ghost town. I need to monetize the video product to pay the bills.  MY first financial priority is to pay the taxes...about $500 and change at the moment. I need financial backers, Legal Minds, private investigators, producers and crew with gear. Reality tv can't beat this act. I have old friends interested so far, and as you know that I am just getting started here.

Checkout my latest posts on The Tello Files for kicks. Thx for your support!!!

Frankie Banali Drum Sale Round 2
$1
Ships for $22.00
Estimated arrival Feb 11 - Feb 17
Details
Condition
Used - like new
We’re almost a year into the sale of Frankie’s collection. It was Frankie’s wish that his drums found people who would appreciate them as much as he did. After meeting the scores of drummers and fans who purchased parts of the collection, I’m certain Frankie would be ecstatic, knowing his drums made such a profound impact on so many people’s lives.
In round two, we’ve added several snare drums that were missed in the first sale, plus several items that we simply didn’t have time to list. We also discovered a pile of autographed drum heads that are now included on some of his favorite snares and sets. Everything is live on the website now. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

Except Ron Tello.

Hello again, Blighters.

Savor my limited session.

I like Movies.

I stumbled into one months ago.

"Giant from the unknown"
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0051654/plotsummary?ref_=ttmi_stry_pl

A well inebriated Indian Joe (Billy Dix) sitting on the stoop of the bait and tackle shop
giggles and warns, "All white men die."

When I saw the opening shot, I thot "That's around here".
I looked it up.
Fawnskin. Big Bear, CA.

On Valentines Day, Lotus and I went there.

Pretty cool I suppose.

Not really.
The buildings are in bad condition.
Broken windows, glass on the sidewalk.

The place is surrounded by million dollar homes and the town zone is a pit.

Clearly: NO CIVIC PRIDE THERE.

Aw, what can ya do?

The Fawn Lodge was built in 1925 in the town of Fawnskin, California, and also served as a community center.
The Fawn Lodge closed to the public in the 1980’s. Ever mounting red tape, and restoration costs have made it difficult for the current owners to make the Fawn Lodge a working establishment.

Once and future Fawn Lodge

By Kathy Portie kportie.grizzly@gmail.com
Jul 14, 2021 12:00 AMBig Bear residents know the big pink building in the center of Fawnskin as Fawn Lodge. But the iconic landmark has gone by several different names since it first opened in 1925. Historians Mark Durban and Richard Graham talked about the history of the landmark during the latest meeting of the Big Bear Valley Historical Society on July 8. Also joining in on the presentation was Robbie Wilson, whose family owned the building including the lodge, restaurant and bar from 1944 through 1981 and current co-owner Katherine Njus.

It is very sad what has been allowed to happen to this structure. It is likely total loss at this point and a fire hazard and eyesore. I cannot help but draw a comparison to places such as the American Hotel in Cerro Gordo, which burned down somewhat recently. This year they have made a new foundation (hauling cement and equipment high into the Inyos on a very curvy dirt road) and they will rebuilt the hotel much as it was, but better structurally. The Fawn Lodge could get the same treatment (tear down and rebuild) with new dedicated owners. It would be much easier than what Cerro Gordo is going through.
Why the current owners hang on it beyond my ability to comprehend as it is a huge liability for no gain and everyone loss.
It needs new owners, new money and a new plan. In fact, there should be no new construction in the valley until these old places are either removed and rebuilt, or at least removed and built over with new useful structures.
It is just a sad situation.

Dennis O'Brien The Fawn Lodge is in such disarray, along with limited parking. An investor would not see their money back in their lifetime.🧑?🏫

Raumey, they would by the land and just the land, discounted for the tear down and removal. Then, build all new.
Reply33w
Raumey Wilson
Dennis O'Brien The tear down and removal with dump fees would probably exceed what they sell the land for. Besides, the lot is so small, there would be an issue with insufficient parking for a rebuilt facility. My family looked into redevelopment of this structure decades ago.

Raumey, there are solutions for everything. There are alternate sources of funding and finance,, grants, county, state and federal assistance.....100s of options and avenues.
Sooner or later it will resolve itself. Rot, fire, snow load....the building will not last for much longer. Someone or something is going to pay to clean that up.
May as well be preemptive and take a positive path now. Keep in mind, it does not need to return as a lodge at all. It could end up as anything. Sure it is complex, but for the right people, it could work out wonderfully..

About Fawnskin

Fawnskin, on the North Shore of Big Bear Lake, retains a turn-of-the-last-century, mountain-living charm with little more than 380 permanent residents. The town's commercial district sits at approximately 6,750 feet, rising to approximatly 7,200 for residential homes. The North Shore is also home to designated golden and bald eagle habitats.

The town as we know it today derives its name from "Fawn Skin" meadow nearly, two miles northwest of Grout Bay. Allegedly, the meadow got its name in 1891 when hunters killed several deer and stretched the hides on trees. Early cattle ranchers from flatland ranches used the meadow for summer grazing. Past Fawnskin names include Grout Bay, Bald Eagle Valley, Big Bear Village, Cline-Miller, and Oso-Grande. Fawnskin's name became official in 1925.

The original 1800s route into Big Bear that traversed Fawnskin from Green Valley eventually circled travelers across the east end, and then west into what is now Big Bear City and Big Bear Lake. Another means of crossing the lake involved an auto ferry operating from Moon Camp on the North Shore to Holloway's Camp on the South.

Fawnskin, an early stage stop in the 1800s, also served later tourists at several lodges, camps, and restaurants until the road crossing the dam to the South Shore was constructed in the 1920s. Fawnskin retains the special charm of its rugged, fun-loving, and independent spirited early settlers and visitors. The picturesque valley has always been a great attraction to vacationers who found the mountain environment a wonderful retreat from city life.

Several hundred homes are huddled in the forested mountainside. Gold miners, loggers and hunters scattered throughout the Holcomb Valley that was very active in the 1800s. We still celebrate this history with Old Miners' Days in July and August with parades, events, exhibitions, and chili cook-offs. Fawnskin hosts the hilarious Doo Dah Parade. Downtown Fawnskin has some of the oldest buildings in the valley. The original core of Fawn Lodge was built in 1917. The Pedersen Saw Mill lies just west of the lodge, the old post office lies to the east of it. Examples of bark-sided cabins still exist in Fawnskin.

The beautiful mountain scenery such a short drive from Los Angeles has made the area popular with film crews. Many films and TV shows have been shot up here, such as CSI, The X-Files, Bonanza, and even Gone With The Wind.

And another attraction here, from Valentines Day.

Flowers.

I gave them to Lotus.
They are well cared for and continue to live even unto now.

Delays.
Expect them.

This is The Tello Files.
