:5+5: :help:

does this mean I'm the slowest here?

OK how to change over, I don't wanna be the turtle anymore.

Plug your phone no into TPG's plan finder

BUT, as you are planning a location move it could prove costly.

Oh Dear!

Wage blowout threat to NBN rollout

JULIA Gillard's pledge to start the rollout of the $43 billion National Broadband Network in regional Australia is in jeopardy because of an acute shortage of skilled workers to build and maintain it in the bush.

Skills shortages in regional areas have prompted warnings of a wages blowout that could drive up the costs of the NBN to taxpayers even further, with every 1 per cent rise in construction labour costs forecast to add a further $1.4bn to the total bill.

http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/wage-blowout-threat-to-nbn-rollout/story-fn59niix-1225916794348

Hi R, maybe it's slow speeds like mine that allow ppl to think the NBN is a good thing.  And unless we are told otherwise, why would we not want it.  I have never heard it explains properly (like zillions of other ppl) so I'm all for it.

By the way, did you get my return message the other day?

O'k your landline runs out of the Morriset exchange.

TPG do have a 1500 25g/25g offpeak at $50 a month
this would probably double your speed.
Worth a phone call to them just to check.

There other plan is a 8000 trick which jumps to $80 a month
Not good value in my opinion.

Optus broadband

Morisset exchange only have Telstra ADSL/ADSL2+ D-slams installed.

http://www.adsl2exchanges.com.au/viewexchange.php?Exchange=MRSE

Telstra or Primus may be able to connect you IF they have vacant ADSL2+ ports.
There would also be a new contract plus penalty for early cancellation should it occur.

Lacey the numbers your getting are quite good given the service speed.

late edit if you connect to Cooranbong exchange no joy there though.

the only problem with me ringing them is, all have accents and I find it very hard to understand them but, I will give it a try.  I can't pay higher then $50 a month, hubby would refuse point blank to pay it.

It would be well worth the effort.
Those new numbers are abysmal.
They are close to dial-up numbers.
Poddy's "Cup Cake" circa 1985 would give them a run. ;D

there you go, all back to normal again.  I might wait until after we have moved and investigate getting voip instead of a normal phone.  That should cheer Poddy up a bit. ;D

New modem arrived today and installed - CISCO DPQ3212  (DOCSIS 3)

After the provisioning was sorted out, I had to retire my old Win98SE gateway machine. Replaced by a $15 10/100 Router.

Once the routher was set up - I did a speed test.......

The meter peaked at 84

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

The upload should have been better, though... I was getting 1.5 - 1.6 last night on the old modem.  (Maybe I should try it again at 2am :)  ... again)

Ubbie will be interested....

Spectacular is a good word, Ubb.

.... and I believe you might be able to do the same, since you are on Optus cable as well, aren't you?

It's $20 a month extra to giveyou 4-5 times the speed you are currently getting (supposedly) but this account has had an increase notably above that.

This jump in speed is what Optus are marketing as their 'Premium Speed Pack'.

It's $20 a month on top of your plan cost - and you need a new modem to get that speed.  The modem cost is $99 up front - but they were doing an introductory offer of a $100 credit which they process onto your account two months later.  I went for that, so the modem, in the end, will cost me nothing.

Furthermore, unlike the basic plans, this extra speed service can be turned off and on whenever you want - and you will only get charged pro-rata for when you have the service on.  This means that if I don't feel justified paying the extra, I can turn off the 'turbo' but still have the new modem ... which didn't cost me anything.

I got the distinct impression, too, that this new modem would be utilised for other content from Optus - so I already have it ready for that!

Top speed of 44.32 Mbps on that test - but there are others using the network at the moment that weren't before - so that could shave the true figure a little.

Also, the measured download speed seems to vary with age (and thus, speed) of the machine. That top speed I first posted was on a laptop less than a year old. My regular desktop is a core 2 duo and ran the 'Poddy' tests in the high 50's. This machine is an older HP DC7100 running a 3GHz P4 and scored middle 50's before. It nay be coincidental, but I will see if I'm on deck in the wee small hours to run some more tests at a less busy time.

Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh......

rewrite of paragraph 1... Thought I would check a couple of things ... and found ... that the aforesaid laptop is video streaming!

..... and I'm still getting 44.32Mbps on my download test???????  NOW I am distinctly leaning into being impressed.
