Did you ever shop for groceries at Alpha Beta? Which location?
Before Alpha Beta was the name of a store, it was the name of a marketing concept used in grocery stores founded by Albert and Hugh Gerrard. It referred to organizing the groceries in the store in alphabetical order. The Gerrards applied this idea to their flagship grocery store, Triangle Grocerteria, in 1915. Then in 1917, they opened the first Alpha Beta store in Pomona, in eastern Los Angeles County, California.

In El Cajon during the 70s before Queen became established and years after the Beach Boys. Alpha Beta was good for some things on sale but they didn't have as good of pizza as some pizza places. I hope that helps and thanks in advance for sending pizza in the afternoon or evening and brunch if between 11 and 2

Julie Irby Atwood Hi Julie, I almost ran into Staters to say Hi on Sat. Tiff said you were in front of her in line, but I had stayed in the car while she ran in. Sorry I missed you!

Barbara Fessenden-Warford wish Tiffany would have said something. I would have stopped by your car to say hi! Sorry I missed you too!

Oh my memory is fading, but I believe it was at Lugonia and Orange Street in Redlands. It was closer than Stater Brothers.
Bill Dale
Andy Trainor Your mention of Stater Brothers reminds me that in the early 1950's there used to be a Stater Bros. in the Lake Gregory are and if my memory serves me right it was located in the building above the old skating rink...

Michael Farrell
I thought it was Alpha beta before it was Luckys it’s been there for ever
It was left vacant for a long time some homeless got in there and set it on fire trying to keep warm it had been donated to the police department but they never took it it was too much under code I don’t think they wanted to put one in our area not the bestThat would’ve been way back past 30 years
Carol Segna
Not sure now that you got me thinking about it I thought it was originally wasn’t it bought out by Luckys markets?
Michael Farrell
Yes... Alpha Beta and Market Basket were before Lucky's (remember Stephanie Edwards), then Lucky's was bought by Albertson's... 😉
Michael Farrell
Carol Segna I just read that Boy's Market is who bought Alpha Beta... So maybe it was "Boy's" before it was Lucky... 😮
Carol Segna
Michael Farrell There are yes I know there are still Albertson’s because we go to one down in Highland and stater brothers made it not Safeway Albertson’s ,Luckys I think they’re all gone at least in California I remember market basket I also remember there used to almost always be an o Alfie coffee shop By the alpha Bada markets Not sure of the spelling my spellcheck says it’s that way I never saw a boys market out here did you

After the Twin Lakes Golf Course got mowed over in favor of Stucco Town, I have No apprehensions of any Historic Damages salvaging incurred there. Progress is OK so long as it won't felafel up my Golf Game. Bastards!!
