New Local Classified listing format
http://pages2.ebay.com.au/Hub/InsideSelling/New_Local_Classifieds_with_Best_Offer
From 8 July eBay is also trialling a new, simple to use, local classified listing format for pick-up only items - with ZERO insertion fees.
The new format will be ideal for someone who wants to sell items from around the house quickly and easily, without the hassle of figuring out postage or courier charges. Items are listed using the classified listing format and must also include Best Offer. The sale takes place on eBay with buyers picking the item up in person.
The new local classified will feature zero insertion fees, free gallery and pictures with a flat final value fee of 7.9% capped at a maximum of $49.95. The new format will not be available for Store subscribers, PowerSellers, Business Registered sellers or non Australian account holders.

Do you think this will be the end of free ads on Gumtree - no listing fees, no FVFs
I have found a few bargains on Gumtree and it would be a shame if eBay scraps it now that they are going to introduce a similar concept but with a 7.9% FVF.

Gumtree might take a small step backward ... and I did say might.
EBay has done themselves no favours and are trying to lure sellers back. While some may be enticed, most who have bolted and found Gumtree will be enjoying less stress and probably be happy to stay there.
Real dumb move to scare people off - they just might find somewhere better. Then you've got two jobs: 1. to get them out of that place and 2. to get them to come back to you. So much easier to look after a customer you already have.
Sorry. I was forgetting ... this IS eBay we are talking about.

I must confess....I have never gone to Gumtree..so can't comment on that.
But this is interesting...
The new format will not be available for Store subscribers, PowerSellers, Business Registered sellers or non Australian account holders.
Are they wanting Powersellers to open new accounts so they can use this service?
I guess sign up numbers must be down...lol

Actually....this may be handy for me!
A friend popped around the other night...and I used to sell heaps of stuff for him a few years ago.
He has come across a pallet load of Surgical Gloves....and Body Bags!
He was hoping I could shift them for him..lol
I suggested selling the body bags as blanket storers that you can slip under the bed...or something like that..lol
-
You have to laugh....
The exclusions suggest they are courting the 'mum and dad' sellers cleaning out their attic or garage. Which seems a huge backflip on Donahoe's displeasure with the 'flea market' image ... or is the 'garage sale' image a better one?
I was almost going to ask: Does anyone at eBay know which way they're going? ... but consider that a rhetorical question.

a pallet load of Surgical Gloves....and Body Bags!
Hmmm.... basic tools for eliminating fingerprints and other evidence.
On wonders how one came across this merchandise ... and who might be interested in a 'job lot' purchase.
-
Believe me Brumby!...I did a double take when I heard what he had too..lol
But legally obtained at an Auction somewhere selling bulk lots of stuff.
Can you sell body bags on Ebay? Unused of course..lol
-
I'd call them heavy duty storage bags or something like that.
I think it would be ok ... I can't think of any policy you might breach - but, hey, when did eBay ever need to be accurate here?
-
Roo, you should create an ID called Dexter to list them :D
-
I like Dexter..lol

Actually, there may be a market in the film and TV industry with all the blood and guts shows that seem to be on at the moment.
-
They are some great ideas too!
Crikey! I could become a Power Seller seeling this stuff :yess:....they're not cheap!
Smee also suggested Vets and Pet Cemetaries....which is another option.
Ooops! Totally off subject here....please resume...

Hmmm, body bags. Do I need some body bags? I probably should have a few just in case.
-
... was waiting for you on this one, Ubb.
Don't forget the gloves ... the avoid leaving fingerprints marks.
