I just got off the phone with ECSO, unfortunately there was nothing on Brenner's property that was searched in NV today. As a family we would like to thank ECSO for their assistance. This is in no way a set back on bringing Dylan home, this is just one place we can check off the list.

HAPPENING NOW: Elko County execute search warrant on the Nevada property of James Brenner.

Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office had sent a request to Elko County Sheriff’s Office to execute a warrant on the Nevada property of James Brenner.  This request was denied for probable cause. Elko County Sheriff’s Office conducted an independent investigation to obtain enough information for probable cause.  That Elko County warrant was signed Friday, August 12, 2022 to be executed this morning.  The family was never informed by BESO they ever requested the warrant and were told this property was of ‘no concern’

Family of missing Dylan Rounds pushing for change in lead investigators

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — After a criminal search came up short, the family of Dylan Rounds is demanding change in who handles their son’s case.

The nineteen-year-old from Idaho was last heard from over Memorial Day weekend and last seen near his property in Lucin, Utah.

Dylan’s family is fed up with the investigators on his case.

“Let somebody with bigger guns handle it because it’s just not going anywhere,” said Candice Cooley, Dylan’s mom.

Dylan’s parents are asking the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office to relinquish lead on the case and hand it over to the state or FBI.

Cooley claims the county released important clues that were meant to stay confidential. She also said she hasn’t heard from the sheriff in over two months.


“We did not even know that Box Elder issued a search warrant for Elko to execute on the Brenner property in Montello and we’ve been screaming to get that done,” she said.

Cooley is talking about James Brenner, a Nevada man the county named as a suspect. He’s currently on trial for federal firearm charges.

On Monday, the Elko County Sheriff’s Office and the Box Elder Sheriff’s Office and Search and Rescue obtained a search warrant for a “parcel of land in Nevada owned by James Brenner.” Investigators used “cadaver dogs, drones, and archaeological excavation procedures” but no evidence was found.

“You know you get your hopes up so high that they’re going to find something, but at this point we’re what, two and a half months into this,” said Cooley.

FOX 13 News visited the sheriff’s department in hopes of getting more information. The office has yet to comment on the investigation since Dylan’s disappearance. The office told FOX 13 News that no one was available.

“I don’t believe they have the resources and I don’t believe they’re utilizing the resources that they could take,” she said.


The FBI is already assisting on the case, but because they’re not the lead investigators, there’s not much they can do.

Idk why it seems like everytime there is a missing person the LE screws it up. It happened in Naomi's case and Gabby Petitos case and Summers case and a few others. I think these sheriff's office need some more training on missing people and how to go about investigating properly. And in a timely manner. Hope they find Dylan and bring him home. I totally agree about handing the case to another Jurisdiction. Hang in there Candice they'll find your baby

Roxy Mortenson there had to be SOME evidence or they wouldn't be having a guy sitting in jail right now. You can't hold someone without evidence. Also you can't search someone's property without evidece/warrant.

My heart does go out to the family and I pray you find Dylan soon. But I’m confused as to why the family asked people NOT to search since over a month now? I hope he is found soon! Big thanks to two guys from Montello, Ty Corbin and Lance Kelly who have never given up and searched everyday since Dylan went missing, respecting LE directions to stay off the farm property for their search. I hope they succeed, but they could do with help from other locals with their search! Thanks guys. Keep it up.

Yvonne Clarke If I understand correctly there were areas of concern the family was requesting be searched by law enforcement and areas law enforcement was actively still searching with different types of technology. For unofficial searchers to go into these areas it could jeopardize the investigation or contaminate evidence. Keep in mind, as stated in the timeline close to 300 searchers in helicopters, an airplane, atv's, horseback, on foot and equipped with drones and other searching equipment searched the area for 3 weeks then handed it over to law enforcement to conduct their criminal investigation. I personally do not appreciate anyone making any kind of comment that even hints around that the family is not doing everything they possibly can.

Please pray with us that Box Elder County Sheriff's Department will step down from this case and allow someone more qualified to help us find Dylan. It is unacceptable to have no communication from them for 2 months and for them to release important and confidential information to the public without discussing with the parents. If they have nothing to hide, then why won’t they talk to Candice or Justin or the media. Shame on them!

I could call just to ask a question, if there was no one there at that second, usually it was within the minute that I received a call back! Their service is to be for the people. You should have a person with the FBI that is assigned to you, that you can call 24/7, or I guess in this situation the BE since they are in charge. I would have to call the States Attorney's Office to see if I could go above the BE heads to get FBI help! So what if they get mad at you, they are not doing anything anyway!!! Stop having pissing contest with other jurisdiction and help the mother find her son. For God sake the only poi is in jail and he doesn't even have charges against him for Dylan. They need to get off their asses and earn their pay. Just because the person they believed did something is behind bars they need to get the evidence. A fresh pair of eyes might offer new insight. As it stands this guy does what 33 months then cut loose because they don't have enough to charge him with Dylan. They can't be bothered to get off their ass or to even talk to Candace. YouTubers are doing more then they are even if they are way off base and it's sick. I hope Candace nails them to the wall. Get a hold of the governor he might put a fire under them. Candice, I wrote to NAMUS two weeks ago asking about that specific info that was in Dylan's entry. I asked them to either clarify it or, if it was wrong, to remove it. They never got back to me, but then I saw the info had been removed. All of this was very curious. Box Elder reached out to me two days ago. I returned the call now three times, but they haven't called me back. I had no idea that what I was querying was something like this.

Right from the beginning they dropped the ball. We have to change the system. Ninety percent of parents are correct when reporting their children missing because they know them best. Something tells me that dylan went to put his grain truck away(which was parked by the trailer that the guns were at) ans possibly found the guy who was squatting there and could of gotton into a altercation with the guy telling him to leave and the guy did something to dylan thats why the guy went to his friends house and asked him to hold the guns for him,.. If Kurt is so confident he is going to solve this case then what's the hold up?  He is supossed  to inform LE of any information he has.  I wonder how he will solve it?  What is his plan?  He has to know something to begin with.  My guess is the guy who wanted a job from Dylan but Dylan told him to get off his property.  I think more than 1 is involved.

Ivan Robert Marko Milat (27 December 1944 – 27 October 2019[1]) was an Australian serial killer who was convicted of the backpacker murders in 1996. Milat, commonly known as the Backpacker Murderer, assaulted, imprisoned, robbed and murdered two men and five women in New South Wales between 1989 and 1992. His modus operandi was to approach hitchhikers along the Hume Highway under the guise of providing them transport to areas of southern New South Wales, then take his victims into the Belanglo State Forest where he would incapacitate and murder them. Milat has been called 'Australia's Worst Serial Killer', and "A friend of smee".[2]
