TODAY’S WEATHER DISCUSSION AND FORECAST:
..Good Morning.
..The change has arrived.
..This morning Fog has moved into the Crestline and Rim Forest, and will soon cover all of the local mountain areas. Currently, an area of Low pressure that will begin to affect our area by tonight is located just off of Fort Bragg Ca. This system will rapidly drop South along the Coast of California bringing much needed rain and low elevation snow to the entire west Coast.
..Gusty winds will continue to develop today along with increasing clouds. Ridge Fog will make for poor driving conditions. REMEMBER to use your headlights so you can be seen while driving.
..By late this afternoon or early evening, rain and snow will begin. The snow levels will lower to around the 4000? level tonight with 1-3? expected from 4000-5500? by tomorrow morning. Above the 5500? level from 4-8? of snow can be expected with higher amounts above the 7500? level possible. Thunderstorms will be likely across some areas of SoCal tomorrow morning which could rapidly increase rain and snowfall rates as well as lower snowfall levels briefly.
..Saturday an additional 1-3? of snow is expected locally along with 3-8? at the higher elevations. The snow and rain will end briefly by Saturday night or early Sunday morning.
..Then for Sunday afternoon, another storm from the North will arrive brining more snowfall to the area. Poor driving conditions are expected all across all of the mountain. Snow is expected along HWY’s-18,33,38,I-15 and the 215 to as low as the 3000? level through Monday night YOU WILL NEED CHAINS. There is another chance for more Thunderstorms Monday morning, adding to the mix.
..This series of storms should end with slow clearing Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday will be good days for catching up on driveway clearing etc. Then for Friday, This could be the strongest storm so far this year. As it looks this morning, Another area of Low pressure will slide South along the West Coast of California. However, this time the Low will stall off of Point conception Wednesday through Thursday night picking up additional moisture and warming before moving into SoCal. There is the possibility of weak Atmospheric River-(AR) enhancement with this system as well. Therefore, we should see snow levels of ~6000? with much more moisture for the region. This will be worth watching.
..So as it looks this morning, now is a good time to stock up on gas for your Snow-blower and generator, as well as prepare for what could be several days of rain and mostly snow above the 4000? level.*RC
