I was filling orders for Instacart all week up till Thursday at 1, when it got slow like a typical weekday. You’d think more would realize by now, order before the snow. It never seems to get busy until the weather gets bad. Some of us don’t want to drive in the snow, some don’t have cars that are equipped for it. My husband and I have been up here over 25 years.  We both worked down the mountain for years and years including the weekends and neither of us remember the roads being so bad.  There was no back up or cars stuck all over the roadways.  Why is it like this now?  What has changed from 15-20 years ago?

If you read some of the post it's not all Flatlanders there are people up here that work and live up on the mountain trying to get around people asking for rides that live up here. I'm sure people said the same thing when you moved up here

Housing market. As the prices in the city go up people head for the hills for better housing prices. As the city gets more dense people also head up the mountain to live. There are far more full time residents in the mountains than there was 20 years ago.
This means a lot more traffic on the mountain and also coming up and down the mountain.

I believe that we are not getting our roads plowed like before. It used to be our street was plowed over snd over immediately and I just got home tonight and our street looks like it hasn’t been Plowed all day.
The main road was but not our busy side street.
So there’s probably budget cuts involved in the plowing.

With all of the accidents , people unprepared and stuck, WHY CANT THIS BE ON THAT GIANT FLASHING SIGN at the bottom of 18 and 330. DONT COME UP UNPREPARED!!! Or wait until major part of storm is over before allowing no one but residents up. Our resources are limited and too many people getting hurt or properties damaged.

It's already been discussed with CalTrans at the monthly MAC meeting. They will not do anything like this at this time as it is the right of every citizen to travel where they like when they like when on a public highway.
I wish it was a different answer, but that's where it's at for now. I know they are looking into some options, but nothing has been fleshed out yet.
